Thrive

The boys are back in Europe and I’m sixteen weeks pregnant. That offer Alex made went through a few days ago and now, it’s thirty to sixty days till we can move in since a lot needs to be done beforehand. I was still in disbelief about the fact that we’re going to be moving into my dream home somewhere in the next couple months. Today’s Sunday and aside from it being a day off, it’s also my twenty-ninth birthday. Seeing that Miranda is thirty-one weeks along and not up to going out to celebrate, Brielle is picking Miranda up and driving to Alex and I’s house. We’re just having a small get together to celebrate which is perfectly fine with me although my other favorite person isn’t here.

“Happy Birthday, hun.” Brielle greeted coming through the front door.

“Happy Birthday, Abby!” Miranda said hugging me.

“Thanks guys.”

“You mind if I just go right ahead and sit?”

“Not at all. Go ahead.”

“Thank you.”

She waddled and sat on the recliner, pulling it out and propping up her feet; she sighed.

“What would you like to drink?” I asked.

“Water, please.”

That’s my primary drink aside from milk. Being off soda isn’t as bad as I thought it’d be, but I do miss it. I got her and I water and got Brielle a soda before sitting down on the couch.

“You talk to Alex yet?” Miranda asked.

“No, but I should hear from him soon within an hour. I want to hear from him now.”

Then, I heard a knock on the door.

“I’ll get it.” I said, standing up.

It was Kendra on the other side and I got another birthday wish.

“Can I get you-”

“I got it, hun. You go sit, birthday girl.”

I nodded and walked back and sat down.

“So, Abby, any developments on the new house?” Kendra asked, taking a seat.

“Nope. There’s still a shitload of paperwork to be done.”

“How excited are you? I know you had that dream...”

I smiled to myself.

“Off the charts excited. The fact that we’ll be living there before the baby comes gives me goosebumps.”

I was beaming.

“I love the name Scarlett, by the way. Were you guys thinking of names yet?”

“Nope, but I’m hooked on the name. It’s beautiful.”

“Incredibly. No matter what you two have, that kid is gonna be cute as shit.” Brielle said.

Fifteen minutes later, my phone vibrated and I knew that it was Alex.

FaceTime?

I asked the girls about it and they ended up being fine with it. I need to see his face today. Instead of answering him, I called him and soon saw his gorgeous face.

“Happy Birthday, Abby.”

“Thank you.”

“Someone’s happy.”

“Yeah. I’m hanging out with my sistas.”

He laughed.

“Say hi, everyone!”

I heard echoes of ‘Hey Alex’ while he saw them wave.

“Hi ladies!” he said waving.

He was adorable. I laughed and shook my head. I excused myself to the bedroom, so I could just talk to him one-on-one.

“Anyway, how are you?” I asked, sitting up in bed.

“Great. I’d ask how you are, but I already know. So, how’s the baby treating you?”

“Good. I’m assuming he/she is doing well too.”

“Glad to hear that. You seem to be enjoying your birthday this year.”

“That’s because I’m in the best place I’ve ever been, so I’m loving it this year.”

“Fuck. I’d love to kiss you right now.”

I laughed.

“The feeling’s mutual. Very mutual. Oh and there’s something else I really want to tell you.”

“What’s that?”

“I hate that I can’t have birthday sex.” I said putting on a sad face.

He laughed again.

"And we both know that my vibrator has nothing on you."

I bit my lip as I was eager to see his reaction.

"Abby..." he groaned.

That's the reaction I was expecting and he definitely delivered.

"Why do you have to be such a tease?"

"Because I can."

"You owe me big when I get back."

"How big? My libido is the highest it's been since our honeymoon, so I will deliver."

He shook his head.

"You can be so weird, but fuck, I love that about you so much."

I smiled.

“You can be pretty damn weird yourself.”

“You’re the queen of it.”

“Thank you.”

“My pleasure. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

I couldn’t stop smiling.

“Well, I’m gonna let you get back to the party and I’ll uh...take care of myself before the show.”

Take care of himself. I knew what that meant.

"Enjoy yourself, Alex and I'll talk to you tomorrow."

"Bye babe."

I hung up and crawled off the bed, quickly heading back to the living room where my friends were deep in conversation; they noticed me immediately.

"How's your honey?" Miranda asked as I sat down.

"Great, but uh... when I hung up, I left him with an erection."

The room was silent for a moment.

"No. You didn't."

"I did. I mentioned to him about my displeasure for not having birthday sex and I added about my vibrator not matching up to him. He was none too happy."

They all laughed.

"Poor Alex." Brielle asked.

"I couldn't help myself and now, I owe him big when he gets home."

"Wonder what that entails." Kendra added.

"Well, I'm looking forward to whatever it is."

A couple hours later, my phone rang again; it was my mom.

“Hi Mom.”

“Hi sweetie. Happy Birthday!”

“Thanks Mom!”

“Are you having a good day? Have you spoken to Alex?”

“Yes and yes. The girls are here and I spoke to Alex a couple hours ago.”

“That’s awesome. Is it just you girls?”

“Yeah and we decided to just make it an all day kind of thing. Miranda isn’t up for going out anywhere, so we decided on that.”

“That was a great idea. I’m sure though that it’s not the same without him.”

“You’re right, but nothing can quite match my birthday last year.”

Especially the way it ended.

“I remember you telling me about it.”

But, I didn’t tell her about how wasted Alex and I got; a mother doesn’t need to know about something like that.

“How is he?”

“He’s great. He was glad I’m so much happier about my birthday than I was last year.”

“How’s my grandchild?”

“Good like me, treating his or her mom well.”

She laughed.

“Things are gonna change by the end of your second trimester. You know that, right?”

“Yeah. Just enjoying this one while it lasts.”

“Well, I love you Abby. Continue on having a great day.”

“Thanks Mom. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

Come four, I was ready for cake, while Miranda was wore out; this pregnancy has taken such a toll of her. In honor of her smashing cake in my face and vice versa, I had Kendra film the singing to the cake smashing and I'd send it to Alex.

“How’s the cake?” Miranda asked.

It was red velvet again.

“Delicious.” I said with my mouth full.

“You’re so gross.”

I was tempted to send him a dirty text about wishing my mouth was full of him, but it was enough with that vibrator comment.

“Thanks for such a great day, guys.” I said a half hour later.

I got hugs from everyone before they left and soon it was just me who had to clean up and the dogs who impatiently wanted any kind of junk food they could get their paws on. It was past five when I decided to text Alex.
