To the Moon and Back
Blue
I get a call from Jack. "Hey dude, what's up? We haven't heard from you. Why did you really leave the recording early? What's happening?"
I sigh. "Nothing" I can't bring myself to tell him what's going on.
"Bro, don't lie to me, you sound like shit. What is it?"
I remember now. " I walked in on Lisa, cheating on me." I tell him, my voice void of emotion.
"Fuck! What a bitch! Do you want me to come over to your place?" He asks sounding genuinely worried.
"No, I am not at home, I am at Sharky's. She got arrested by the police last night." I sigh.
"What? What are you talking about, what is going on ? Are you sure you are alright, buddy?" I can hear him shuffling around then a door slams.
"Okay, stay where you are, I am coming over." With that he hangs up and I just drop the phone and close my eyes.
I have the last song she had in her player running on repeat and it's ironically 'I miss you" by Blink 182.
Or maybe it is not a coincidence at all, maybe she was missing me then as I am missing her now.
Half an hour later Jack arrives and he interrogates me about what happened, he leaves me no chance but to tell him everything, that I am in love with Sharky and that I don't know what will happen to her.
"Why didn't you tell me, you and Sharky had a thing? I would've backed off, you know that" Jack sounds hurt.
"Because we didn't 'have a thing' I had a girlfriend, remember? I couldn't tell you guys." I rub my face in frustration.
"What are you going to do now?" He asks me.
"I don't fucking know, okay? " I yell at him because my nerves are showing.
He isn't offended but starts to think and talk to himself.
"Well let's see" he takes out his phone and searches something but I don't care anymore. After a while he turns to me.
"Listen Alex, the only direct flights to Australia from LA are all within a time frame from 9:50 pm to 11:50pm. If what they told you is true and they immediately will put her onto the next possible machine then she could be leaving tonight. It's like one and a half hours drive to the airport, I suggest we should get ready and get going we will have to stop and buy some food though because I am starving and you don't look too good yourself, have you been eating?"
With that he pulls me up from the couch and starts shoving me to the door, he is so full of energy whereas I can hardly hold myself upright.
He pulls me down the stairs but we have to go back up because I forgot to take Luke and Jack decides, considering my mental state that it is safer if he drives.
So we set out to try the impossible, find the girl that I am in love with amongst millions of places and people.
When we arrive at the airport a couple of hours later we head for the counter that checks-in the first flight of the day to Sydney.
We start looking around the area and try and find her somewhere in the huge amount of people but there is no sign of her. I even talk to the lady at the counter and ask if there would be a deportee on board but she says she cannot give me that information even if she wanted to because it does not show up in the system.
Jack comes up to me and shakes his head. "I could not find her anywhere. Maybe she isn't even on that flight. Maybe there is still hope she did not get deported at all and will be released home." He looks at me with sadness in his eyes.
"Excuse me," the lady at the counter tries to get our attention."just for your information, if the person is travelling under custody, they will not be checking in with regular passengers but be escorted to the plane by officers behind security lines. You will not be able to see them from here. I am sorry."
I turn to my best friend. "All is lost, Jack. There is no use in staying here any long- ... Wait. There! Jack!."
I grab his arm and point to where my eyes had fallen on a blonde head that had just appeared behind the glass wall separating the gateway from the check-in area, she had one officer on either side of her and they were holding her arms escorting her along the hallway.
I start running towards the glass, screaming her name. "Sharky, SHARKY, no, stay here! Let her go. Sharky it's me." By now I was only a couple of feet away and I slam full force into the wall, banging my fists at the surface.
She notices and turns around, her eyes go wide as she sees me. I can see she has been crying. She twists herself out of the grip of the officers and presses against the glass wall on the other side.
Our hands touch the glass in the same spot to try and feel the other.
She looks into my eyes with so much love and sorrow that I can feel my heart brake in this instant. She mouths 'I am sorry, Alex'
Then the police officers grab her again and drag her away.
That's when I go berserk, I literally try to brake the security glass and scream and cry as I see her figure getting smaller in the corridor and then being pulled around a corner and out of my view.
The airport security is onto me but I give them quite a fight. Jack is trying to talk them into letting me go and explains why I am freaking out here but I end up on the floor with one guy on top of me bending my arms backwards and another one holding my legs.
When I stop fighting back they let me get up, that's when I take my chance and run to the huge windows that shows the runways.
The last thing I see before they grab me and throw us out of the building is when her plane takes off into the black night sky, leaving me behind.

In celebration of the release of ATL new single today, here is an early update!

Nooo, it's over. :-( This was a really sweet story. I loved watching Alex and Sharky's relationship grow. Hopefully you'll consider a sequel so we can see how married life treats them. Well done!
