Can I Say I'm Sorry?

Choke on a kiss, I thought I'd save my breath for you

Touring with the guys was something that I just couldn't explain. The first few shows many people were visible confused as to who I was but by the fourth one the word had gone out on all forms of social media. It was also really cool to see how much the fan base wanted him to get better and the Tweets every day made him smile. Playing on stage was something else though. Drums are something that I've never got to play on stage until this tour. It's absolutely exhilarating because I'm so in charge and everyone listens to me whether or not they want to. Also, this tour has brought me closer to all the guys. This also includes the fact that Alex and I are more civil now. He had overheard my conversation with Jack back when we were first starting tour. We'd gone through about half of it now and Rian was getting really antsy to get back on drums and he would before the tour ends.

"Shay," Alex complained from the front room.

"What," I said in a similar tone.

"Come play Mario Cart with me."

"But I'm sitting on the counter and drinking Monster."

"Please."

I rolled my eyes and sat on the ground near him because I had this weird thing where I was just refusing to sit on chairs lately. He threw the other controlled to me and I caught it before it knocked over the can that was beside my knee. He really wasn't decent at throwing but there's somethings that you get used to by being friends with them. I waited for him to set everything up. I was ready to kick Alex's ass in this game, for old times sake.

"So you and Jack have gotten quite close," he noted.

"I mean, we were close before and we're just picking things up ever since we've met again," I replied, not tearing my eyes from the screen.

"Oh alright. You just seem like you've been avoiding me."

"In all fairness, you were avoiding me too."

He had no reply to that but instead screamed out profanities once a blue shell hit him and I passed him. I ended up winning thanks to sheer luck at the last moment. I leaned back, my back hitting Alex's legs. He was sulking at his second place victory. I smiled at him, laughing. He was a sore loser, it had only been one round but he didn't really care.

"Chin up Lexxy, second isn't too bad," I laughed.

"You're a bitch," he replied.

"And proud of it."

We started the next round and I only had one hand on the controller a lot because I was drinking a Monster at the same time because it was the equivalent of coffee to me. He was a difficult person to race against but I know how his mind worked so he was really easy to beat like that. It also really helped that I knew every single short cut in the game. I played it a little too often. After the four races I came out in first every race so he was slightly upset to say the least.

"One more game," he said.

"Sorry, we got sound check in thirty," I said, standing up.

I stood up and walked to the back, making sure to throw the empty can in the trash as I walked to the back room. I pulled my clothes out of the back that I had at the foot of my bed. I threw my make up bag on my bed and quickly ran into the bathroom so that I could change. The guys just changed in the hallway and I would, except I figured that probably wasn't the most appropriate. I walked out and Jack ran in the second I was out of the way with Alex trying to beat him.

"You bitch, I called it next," Alex yelled at Jack.

"Oh suck a dick," Jack said.

I laughed at them and quickly fixed my make up seeing as I still had some of it on from yesterday. It would be nice when I could get a shower tonight because my hair was not forgiving me for not washing it. I pulled my dry shampoo out and did whatever it took to try to get my hair so that it actually looked decent. I sighed at what it looked like and knew that was the best it was going to get. I fixed my skinny jeans that I was wearing in the middle of summer in Texas and I didn't really care.

"You guys ready," Zack called from the front.

"I think the girls are fighting over the bathroom," I responded, standing next to him.

"It's either that or the straightener. Can't believe Alex forgot that we were doing a festival today."

"Girls, get your asses out here now," I yelled.

I followed Zack and Rian and we walked towards the stage we'd be playing. Rian still stood side stage at every show because he still wanted to feel like he was part of the band which I completely understood. We all showed out stage passes to the guards and went to work on sound check. There were quite a few screams when Zack stepped on stage to make sure everything sounded good. He was probably going to do the guys guitars as well since we knew they were lucky if they were going to be on time. I'd probably help him because, well, it wasn't like I couldn't play them. I was barefoot, playing the bass drum just waiting until it was not only in my ear but also in the in house speakers. I had one of my in ears out to make sure that I'd hear it. It wasn't a thing that I should do but I regularly did. As a drummer my hearing was always at risk anyways. I know that's a bad way to look at it but I didn't really care anymore.

I stood up once it was all good. I had to show off a little bit too because why wouldn't I? I stood up, leaving my shoes where they were. I only wore them to keep the guys off my ass about making a mess if I step in something I shouldn't have. I smiled at Zack as he picked up one of Alex's guitars and handed it to me. He picked up one of Jack's. We were both waiting for the okay from the sound guy on it because all I knew was they were supposed to be loud, I wasn't really sure how they're levels were worked out.

Once we got the okay we put things up and went backstage waiting for the okay to go on. Alex and Jack came running up and looked disappointed once they realized we had done everything. Jack was finishing up the Monster he was drinking and Alex made sure he had everything in order. I was rocking back and forth on my heels because I was always nervous about going on stage. I mean, they wanted to see Rian not me and if I screwed up it meant a lot more. It made me feel like I wasn't good at what I did and I was part of the rhythm section, I helped hold down the groove. I couldn't screw up.

"Sorry," Jack apologized.

"We'll talk about this after the show," Matt said, crossing his arms. "Just you better kill it out there."

I smiled at the guys and I lead the run onto stage once we got the okay. I didn't get many cheers and well that's expected but the second the guys were there it didn't matter. The crowd was screaming their heads off. I remembered when Alex and I would stand in the audience to see our favorite musicians and I couldn't help but laugh. That was so many years ago. I wonder if he remembered that.

It was nice once the show was over. I pulled my super sweaty hair back into a loose pony tail because it felt discussing to feel my sweaty hair on the back of my neck. I had my shoes in hand because I really wasn't feeling like putting them on. I mean, I just gave my all on that stage so it was nice to kinda do my own thing for a little bit. I stayed behind to help make sure that everything was getting torn down and brought out.

"Shay, go to the bus please. We got this," Matt told me.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to make sure everything's okay," I replied.

"It is, now go shower!"

"Fine, sorry!"

I walked back and I saw Jack come out of nowhere. I smiled at him and he wrapped his arm around my waist and walked with me to the bus. I didn't mind having any of the guys like this with me because it was different than anyone else doing this.

"You were great on stage," Jack told me.

"You were alright," I joked.

"Well, that's the last time I give you a compliment."

I laughed and he smiled at me. He stared at me for a little bit longer than normal but I thought nothing of it. He was really different than he presented himself so this wasn't too out of character. I enjoyed the silence though; there was never anything wrong with silence. That's what helps people focus and get things done.

"What's on your -" I started before he cut me off.

His lips pressed into mine. I didn't fight him at all. I felt his arms wrap around my waist as my eyes fluttered closed. As much as I never thought that I would ever be like this to any of the guys again but things don't always go to plan. As much as I hated doing this, I wouldn't change this moment for anything. I raised my hands up to the back of his neck and melted into his touch. I liked this too much.

Notes

Oh, I hope y'all hate me for this. I haven't written anything on Undercover and I apologize for that. This story is based on some personal experiences so it isn't hard to come up with more things to keep writing it. I've been really stretched creatively because I've been writing lyrics and bass lines all week. I have probably my favorite song to date half written. I've also really needed to plunge myself into creativity lately.

Please rate and comment :)

I also decided I'm not angry anymore about the whole thing so I'm not going to be angry and make it a horrible ending but I'm also realistic and so I'm not going to make it perfect. Both of them went on their own paths to find happiness. That's what he and I did and I know I'm much happier without him.
