Angel in Shining Armor

“I love you guys so much. Mom, I will see you very soon.”
My heart stopped. Everything stopped, if only for a millisecond of time.
Alexander William Gaskarth is my sole purpose. He’s my human. I’ve been watching over him since the day he was born.
I am his guardian angel, assigned to him since his eyes opened up for the very first time. I’ve always had to watch him. To make sure he’s okay. To send helpful advice to his conscience, and try my best to steer him away from danger.
He can’t see me, but I’m always around. Always here to guide him.
But, I guess I haven’t been doing a very good job.

There he was, sitting on his bed with a gun pointed to his temple. His posture was straight and stiff; his eyes were closed and his hands were shaking, yet he still looked so determined.
As if the note sitting next to him didn’t emphasize that enough.
So, I just knew he was going to do it.
He was ready. Just like he’s planned all along. Today is the day. Alex was going to pull the trigger.
I was freaking out, to say the least.
I went against every rule in the book that told me I wasn’t allowed to make myself visible to him. I just didn’t know what to do, so I acted on impulse.
I couldn’t lose him.

Next thing I knew, I was reaching out to him and yelling, “Don’t!”
He opened his eyes, and looked at me in both deep confusion and fear.
He quickly scrambled to his feet, and pointed the gun at me; a few feet separating us.
“Who the hell are you, and what the fuck are you doing in my room?!” He yelled, scaring the shit out of me.
Fuck, what do I do now??
“I-I’m-“ I stammered, not knowing what to say.
“Who the fuck are you, I said!” He shouted, cutting me off.
He looked just as about as determined to kill me, as he was to kill himself. I didn’t know what else to do now, but to fess up before this ended badly.
“I’m Jack, your guardian angel! Don’t shoot!” I shouted in fear, holding my hands up in surrender.
And to my luck, he instantly changed his angry demeanor, and slowly lifted his finger from the trigger.
“W-what did you say?” He looked at me in confusion.
“I-I said, I’m your guardian angel.” I repeated myself; the gun still making me uneasy.
“M-my what??” He still seemed confused.
“I’m an angel.. I’ve watched over you since birth.”
He blinked a few times, then straightened his arm back out and glared at me.
“You’re fucking with me.”
“No no no! I’m not, I swear!” I began to sweat from nervousness.
“I don’t have time for this bullshit.” He looked ready to pull the trigger, when I squeezed my eyes shut and started blabbering.
“Y-you had a dog named Sebastian when you were six. You hate The Twilight Saga. Crunchy peanut butter and Milanos are your favorite midnight snacks. Your favorite band is Green Day. You have an older brother named Tom, who lives in England. When you were little, you wanted so badly to go to Disney World, so you could meet Peter Pan. Your mom took you when you were nine, and it’s one of your fondest memories with her.”
He slowly lowered his gun as he listened to me, in shock.
“H-how do you know all that?”
“I-I told you, I’m your guardian angel. I know everything about you. I know that you’re beautiful inside and out, and I know that you’re really smart and you have a lot of potential. I know that you’re going through a hard time right now, but my purpose is to let you know that you have a purpose. Don’t kill yourself.”

And that’s when he dropped the gun and broke down into tears.
