Double Take.

Chapter Thirty - Four.

Alex

Time lapse of seven months

I was standing side stage as Jack was on stage doing his thing with his band. They were playing a surprise home show for their fans today, and I tagged along, because let’s be real, there was no way Jack wasn’t going to make me not come. In fact, he basically dragged me out of bed and made me get ready this morning.
They were only in the middle of their third song when my phone started to ring. I took it out of my pocket and saw Steph was calling. That’s strange, Steph only calls when something important is happening with the babies. I quickly ran backstage, trying to get to a kinda quiet place and answered my phone.

“Steph? Is everything okay?” I asked as I held the phone to my ear.

“Alex! I’m at the hospital! The babies are coming now!” he basically shouted. Oh no, what do I do?

“Uh, okay Steph. Just calm down. Jack and I will be there as soon as possible!” I said. She spoke a ‘okay’ and I hung up the phone, running back to side stage as I heard their song end. Once I got side stage, I met the eyes of Jack. I had a worried look, I knew I did. I called him over and he basically ran over to me.

“Babe? What’s up?” He asked quickly as his guitar tech, Zacky, took his guitar from him.

“Steph is in labor. We have to go to the hospital.” I rushed out. Over the months, I have been pretty excited to become a Father. Jack and I even picked out everything for the kids’ room. But, we still didn’t have names for them. Well, I had a name in mind for our baby girl, but I didn’t know if he had one picked out for our son yet.
I watched as Jack’s eyes went wide and he ran back on stage. He ran over to Matt and talked into his ear. Once he backed away from him, I saw a huge smile on Matt’s face as he began to talk into his microphone.

“Everyone, Jack’s got to leave. His kids are being born right now!” Matt said to the crowd, that cheered back to him. He nodded over to Jack and he ran back to me. Before I could say anything, he took my hand and we were both running out of the venue and to our car.
We raced through the parking lot and got in our car, him starting it up and speeding out onto the road. To be honest, I hated when Jack drove fast. But this was different, this was so we would make it to the birth of our kids.

We reached the hospital about ten minutes later, due to Jack’s speeding, and we raced inside. We both ran up to the help desk and I spoke for us.

“Can you tell us what room Steph Logan is in please?” I rushed out.

“And may I ask who you two are?” The woman asked.

“I’m the Father.” Jack spoke.

“And you?” She asked looking to me.

“I’m the other Father.” I said. She gave us a confused look but let it slide, it’s not like I was lying.

“She’s in room 203.” We told her a thank you and zoomed down the hallway, pushing anything and everything out of our way as we went.
We reached the room and Jack pushed the door open. We had calmed down a bit, and were now acting like normal human beings, that were now walking. I shut the door behind us and we approached a bed that we saw Steph was laying on. She looked to be in lots of pain, I mean it’s understandable, she was about to push two human beings out of her own body.
She looked up at us and gave us each a smile, before it quickly fading away and she screamed out.

“Jack Bassam Barakat! If I make it through this alive. I swear I’m going to kill you for doing this to me!” She shouted. I put my hand over my mouth, trying my best to hide my laughter. Jack caught on to it, and slapped my arm.

“Ow. Jerk.” I muttered as I rubbed my arm.

“Stop with your damn love fights and hold my fucking hands!” Steph screamed out. Jack and I both did as she said and I went to the other side of the bed and grabbed onto her left hand, as Jack held her right hand. I heard the door open again, and I saw the Doctor walk in.

“Alright Miss. Logan. It’s time to push.” He said with a smile as a few nurses helped set Steph up for the birth. I watched as the Doctor put himself at the end of the bed and put on a pair of blue hospital gloves. This was it. This was the moment where I became a Father, well, not a biological one, but it’s the same thing.

About five hours past, and Jack and I were currently holding our children. The Doctor has yet to come in with the birth papers, so we couldn’t leave with the kids yet. But before he left the room, he told us the kids were perfectly healthy, and that we could take them home tonight.
Steph was sleeping on the hospital bed, and I was sitting in one of the hospital chairs, with Jack in the one next to me. I had our daughter in my arms, as she laying sleeping on my chest. Jack had our son in his arms, rocking him and talking softly to him. I believe our son has taken a liking to him, as he keeps giggling.

“Alright boys. I have the papers right here. You just need to sign them, and tell me the names for the kids, and you guys are free to go home.” The Doctor said as he entered the room with the papers in his hands. Jack and I both got up from our seats, and put the babies in their own little hospital beds for them. We walked over to the Doctor and he handed us each a pen and some papers.
Jack and I sighed all the papers and the only thing left to do, was give the names of the children, and then we could take them home. “So, what name would you like for the little girl?” He asked looking at me. I was hesitant at first, not knowing if Jack would like it, but I said it anyways.

“I was thinking Joella May.” I said quietly. I looked over to Jack and he smiled.

“May? As it after my sister?” He had the smile still on his face.

“Yep. I couldn’t name her after something in your name, that would just be wired.” I said with a small laugh.

“I like it.” He replied placing a kiss on my cheek.

“Now what about the boy?” The Doctor asked. Jack wasn’t hesitant whatsoever.

“Noah Alexander.”

“Wait, you want to name the baby after me?” I asked as I felt a blush rise to my cheeks. He simply nodded his head and smiled at me.

“There we have it boys. You are now the official Fathers of baby Joella May Gaskarth-Barakat, and Noah Alexander Gaskarth-Barakat. Congrats.” He told us as he shook our hands. “You guys may leave and go home at anytime you want.” With those words, he left the room, and Jack turned to look at me.

“This is it Alex. The start of our lives together.” He said with a smile as he took my hands in his.

“I guess it is, Mr. Barakat.” I giggled.

“Mr. Barakat, well, keep saying that and I might end up getting turned on.” He smirked at me. I winked at him and smiled.

“Mr. Barakat.” I purred into his ear.

“You are lucky we are at a hospital.” He sighed as he stepped away from me and went over to the kids. “By the way, it’s a good thing you made me put the car-seats in the car last month.” He said with a chuckle.

“I did it because I like to be ahead of everything.” I giggled, as I walked over to him and the babies. He reached in and grabbed Noah, and held him as he was starting to fall asleep. I reached in the other little bed and grabbed Joella, who was still asleep. We went to walk out of the room but was stopped by the voice of Steph.

“Jack. Alex.” She said softly. We both turned and looked at her.

“Yeah, Steph?” Jack asked.

“I don’t want you two to tell them about me. I don’t care how much they beg you when they get older. I don’t want to be apart of their lives.” She spoke. I looked over at Jack, and he at me. We both looked back to her and sighed.

“Okay. Just don’t care back when they are older and try and see them. It won’t happen.” I spoke. She nodded her head, and with that we left the room, and made our way through the hospital and outside to where our car was. We strapped the babies into their seats and we got in ourselves.
Jack started up the car and grabbed my hand as he started diving, a smile never leaving his face. “Jack.” I whispered.

“Yeah, babe?” He asked as he glanced at me and then back to the road.

“I’m ready.” I said.

“Ready for what?” He sounded confused.

“For you.” He looked over at me in shock and then quickly looked back at the road.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. I want you and only you.” I said as I gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. The smile on his face only grew, as he lifted up my hand and placed a kiss on it.

“I don’t want to push you into something you don’t want to do.” He said sounding a bit worried.

“You’re not pushing me. This is something I want to do with the love of my life. And that’s you. I just regret that you were not the one to take it from me.” I trailed off a bit.

“As long as I’m the last one to do it with you.”

“Always.”

My college is doing a bunch of activities that freshman are required to go to which is pretty nice. My best friends going to be three and half hours I think. I'm just really nervous cause I don't know anyone on campus.

No problem. And long distance friendships are hard but they can work. My best friend is four hours away when I'm at college but we talk a lot and hang out when we can. If the first night at college feels lonely and you don't feel like socializing, get some junk food and your favorite movie and let yourself get used to being somewhere new with some things that are familiar.

You are awesome, thank you. My 'rents aren't gonna let me visit on weekends but worst comes to worst I'm practically in a national forest with the beauty of nature surrounding me no matter where I go. I've calmed down a lot but tomorrow's gonna be bad because I say final goodbye's to all my friends which will be real hard.

Four hours isn't so bad. Just far enough that you feel like you have some freedom but not too far for weekend visits. Making friends on campus will help you settle in, but your online friends got your back too :)
