The Fire in my Heart

Helping Out a Friend

Tour’s just around the corner. In five days, the members of All Time Low and their crew would be leaving their homes to play music like they do all the time. This time, Jack isn’t too thrilled about it. He’s ruined the chance to be with someone that he really likes, and he’s knows that once tour hits, the chances of being with him would be done to nothing, zero. This is the reason why he’s been staying in his room and not talking to anyone. His friends and family are starting to worry about him, but he just won’t tell them what’s wrong with him. He can’t bring himself to do it.
Devon has been thinking about what happened too. He also knows that Jack’s going to be away for some time. He regrets pushing the man away, but there is still that part that is telling him that he can’t be with anyone, especially someone that won’t be in close distance all the time. It’s not like he can just leave his brother behind, and his brother wouldn’t get any school work done if he was home schooled during the tour. There are so many elements that go into why Devon can’t bring himself to even try it with Jack, but he knows deep down that the real reason is that he’s scared. He’s scared that Jack is going to leave him or something would happen to him. Devon may act tough, but he’s actually a very fragile person. He doesn’t know what he’d do if he lost anyone else close to him. That one night had ruined everything for him and his brother. His entire life is different, and fears have entered his head. He can’t have real friends, or candles in the house, or relationships. His fears control his life now.
~
“Jack,” Jack’s best friend Alex sighs. His fingers run through his brown hair as he stares at the man that refuses to get out of his own bed. “Jack, you can’t just stay in bed for the rest of your life. Tour is going to be starting soon, and I know that you don’t want to disappoint our fans.”
“I can’t get out of bed though,” Jack starts to cry. “My chance is ruined.”
“What chance?” Alex sits down on the bed next to him and rubs Jack’s back since the taller man was laying on his stomach. “You haven’t told us anything about what happened. We can’t help you if you don’t tell us.”
“You can’t help me anyway. I had a chance and I blew it. I just had to ruin it with the one person that I actually could feel something for and picture myself with them. There, now you know.”
“So this is about the crush that you had? You messed it up, and it’s beyond repair?”
“It will be once we go on tour.”
“Why don’t you try to explain yourself then. Maybe you can still try to be friends with her, and then try to be something more later. I’m sure that you can fix it some how. You’re not a bad guy, so it couldn’t have been that bad.”
“I don’t think that I can fix it. We weren’t even that close. We were just starting to become actual friends, and I blew it.”
“Well, why don’t I talk to her? Just give me her address, and I’ll go over and try to talk her into at least being friends with you again.”
“It’s hopeless.”
“No, it’s not. Just give me her address.”
Jack doesn’t say anything. He grabs the closest piece of paper that he can find along with a pen. His fingers write down the address, but doesn’t give it to Alex. He just stares at it for a minute. Giving this piece of paper to Alex means that Alex would know his secret.
“Earth to Jack. Are you going to give it to me or not?”
“Um, yeah.” He hands the paper to Alex. “Just promise me that you won’t judge me.”
“Are you crazy? How could I judge you? You’re my best friend. I wouldn’t just judge you. Besides, I’ve seen all of your exes and a bunch of our one night stands. I don’t think anything would surprise me.”
“Just promise me.”
Alex sighs. “I promise.”
~
Alex looks down at the sheet of paper and back up at the apartment building. He’s at the right place. He goes through the doors and over to the intercom. Again he looks down at the paper to make sure that the number that he’s about to press is the right one, and it is.
“Hello?” a male voice says.
“Um, hi. My name is Alex Gaskarth. I’m a friend of Jack Barakat. Just listen to me, please. I really need to talk, and... could you just buzz me up, please?”
“Devon,” a young child’s voice says. “Buzz him up! Please!”
The male voice sighs. “Alright.”
Alex hears a beep and goes through the now unlocked door. He makes his way up the stairs and to the apartment. Once there, he knocks on the door, and the man that was on the intercom answers it. He moves aside and allows Alex entrance. The taller man walks into the middle of the room while the shorter man closes the door. Alex notices the little boy sitting on the couch watching him. Jack’s friend starts to think that he really didn’t think that this situation may be as bad as he now thinks it is.
“Who are you?” Alex asks the little boy. Perhaps being kind and talking to the person that let him up in the first place will help.
“My name is Daren,” he answers. “I’m Devon’s little brother.”
“Is this guy Devon?”
“Yeah.”
Well, it’s not as bad as it could have been but still. Alex turns to Devon. “Are you her brother, cousin... boyfriend?”
“Of who?” Devon questions with a raised eyebrow.
“Of the girl that lives here.”
“No girls live here.”
“But this is the address that Jack gave me. The girl that he likes should be here.”
“Jack doesn’t like any girls.”
“If he doesn’t like a girl then he wouldn’t be so upset. He’s been stuck in bed for days, and it will only get worse when we leave for tour. I don’t care what you think of him, but I really need to talk to this girl. Stop protecting her.”
“He won’t get out of bed...”
“Yeah, so stop lying to me and tell me where she is. He’s my best friend, and I can’t stand to see him like this.”
Devon looks down at the ground. “I wasn’t lying. There are no girls here. The one that Jack likes is me.”
“Seriously, stop it! This isn’t funny. Jack’s not gay, and he wouldn’t tell me to go here if she didn’t live here.”
Devon raises his head. “I’m not lying. Jack told you to come here to talk to me. He kissed me, and I let my mind get the best of me. I guess that I’ve been thinking about myself too much. I didn’t think that Jack would be hurt like you just said he is. I regret pushing him away because...because I like him too.”
Alex looks into the eyes of the younger man standing in front of him. They are sincere. Now he realizes why Jack made him promise that he wouldn’t judge him. Jack doesn’t like a girl... He likes a guy.

Notes

I was going to put this up last week, but I didn't get to finish it during library because last week was a four day week, so we were really busy. I also was going to finish this yesterday since it was my birthday, but... it was my birthday. Me and my video games...
Anyway, I wasn't going to let Alex know 'til later after one other thing that will happen happens, but I needed things to be fixed in order for that to happen. I figured that having someone talk to Devon for Jack made more sense than Jack talking to him himself.
Again, sorry this too so long. Hope you like it so far, and thanks for reading!

That's very much too. I feel like that's why I've been neglecting my stories with this one that I came up with with the help of my stepsister. There are so many chapters planned out, and I already know what's happening after it. Most of the time, I know what it's leading up too, but I'm not good with fillers. Actually, I started a story last week, and I can't bring myself to finish chapter two . It's really annoying just like with one of my other stories. I have a lot planned for it, but I don't want to rush into it.

@QueenDes
I don't think that writing the three chapters to finish it up would be a very good idea, because it would probably make it seem really rushed. I honestly would re-read it if you changed it, and knowing that you know where you want it to go is a huge bonus, because I know how much it sucks to get stuck with a story, that's why I plan mine out before I even start.
You should just do what you want to do with it, not let anyone sway or influence your choices :)

@BringMeBarakat
I think that I'm going to do just that. I had put the "Attention" message on my Mibba as well, but I was told to take it down. (I sent a message complaining about the rules since I'm just like that.) However, I did get a comment on that one telling me to go ahead and change it.
If everyone really wants, I can write two or three more chapters. The only other things that I had left to write was Rian and Zack finding out about Devon, a smut chapter, and Devon's story being revealed.
The rewrite will be as close as possible to this. In fact, Chapter 1 and 2 will be the same with only slight changes. The only difference would be that ATL isn't famous in it and they actually went to college.
Anyway, I'm happy that you gave me your opinion, and I can finish this story up if you really want me to. I don't know when exactly because I have some other stories to be update first. I'm just getting back into the swing of all of my stories.
