“Why don’t we go out or hang out?” Jack’s best friend, Alex asks him.
“I would, but I already have something planned.”
“Really? I thought that you’d just be at home today.”
“No, I’m going over to a friend’s house. You don’t know them.”
“Oh really? And does this friend have a name?”
“Yeah, but...”
“You don’t have to tell me. I’ll meet her when the time comes anyway.”
Jack’s heart drops. He really needs to tell his band members, but he can’t bring himself to do it. “Yeah. Um, anyway, I have to go now.”
“Ok. Talk to you later.”
“Bye.”
Jack hangs up his cellphone and makes his way over to Devon’s place. As soon as he knocks on the door, he knows that something isn’t normal. He doesn’t here Daren, and normally he can hear his joyful voice. When Devon opens the door, it’s easy for Jack to see that he’s exhausted. The lanky man enters the apartment, and Devon closes the door behind him.
“Where’s Daren?” Jack questions.
“He’s sick,” Devon answers as he starts to head towards his brothers room.
“You don’t look so well yourself.”
“I’m just tired from taking care of my brother.” Devon opens the door. Jack follows and finds that Daren is in bed with a trashcan next to him. “Look who came to see you, Daren.”
“Jack,” Daren smiles. His voice is a little raw from throwing up and a sore throat.
“Hey Daren,” Jack says as he makes his way over to Daren. “Why didn’t you or Devon tell me you were sick? I could have brought some soup or something.”
“Devon didn’t want to worry you.”
“Besides,” Devon starts, “I can take care of him on my own. He is my brother.”
Jack frowns. “I just thought that I could help.”
Devon starts to tell Jack that he doesn’t need help when his younger brother speaks up. “Devon, let Jack take care of me too. You’re tired. You need to sleep.”
“Fine,” the twenty-one year old sighs. The youngest yawns. “You’re tired too. Why don’t you get some sleep. Jack, you can stay if you want. I was just going to watch TV.”
“Ok.”
The lanky man follows the shorter man out into the small living room and sits down on the couch next to him. Devon turns the TV on and just sits there. It only takes him a second to realize that the show on sucks, so he starts to flip through the channels.
“What does Daren have?” Jack asks when the silence between the two men starts to make things feel a little awkward.
“He’s just got the flu.”
“That sucks.”
“Yeah, I hate seeing my brother like that.”
Silence fills the room again when Devon finally settles on a show. “Um, my break from tour is ending in a couple of weeks.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“Daren is going to be crushed. He sees you like brother you know.”
“I do too. He’s like the little brother that I never had.”
“Don’t you have any siblings?”
“I have a sister and a brother, but I’m the youngest.”
“Ah.”
The two of them just sit there again. Jack is getting this feeling that he can’t shake. He doesn’t know what will happen if he goes through with it. He’s scared of the outcome, but he knows that he has to go through with it. He’ll be leaving soon, and he can’t leave without doing this first. With a deep breath, Jack decides that he’s going to do it. Fuck it.
The Lebanese man scoots closer to the shorter man. Devon notices and turns to face Jack to see what’s the matter. At that moment, Jack smashes his lips onto Devon’s. The feeling is just what Jack thought it would feel like. Devon’s lips are soft and just seem to fit perfectly. Jack hasn’t felt like this in a long time. Devon is getting the same feeling that Jack is and starts to kiss back, but then he realizes what’s going on. He pushes Jack away from him and wipes his mouth. Jack starts to say as many apologizes that he can in a short amount of time.
“Please leave,” Devon tells him.
“But-”
“Leave.”
Jack gets up with a hurt look on his face and walks towards the door. He looks at Devon one last time before exiting.

Notes

Sorry this took so long, and it's short. I was going to update this last week, but I was working on a different story of mine. I'll be writing more since school is back in session.
I also know where this is going for the next chapters, so it won't be as hard like this chapter where I didn't know what to write because I wanted Devon and Jack to kiss already.
The next chapter is going to be a good one, and it should help make up for everything.
