Chapter 16: Center of Attention

Nothing much happened until after we had left the next city. I was the first one up that morning as the bus went along on its merry way, so I read one of the books I had brought with me. I was finally getting into the storyline when someone cleared their throat and I looked up at them.
“Hello? How did you get on here?” I wondered.
“The tall one and I had a little bit of fun last night,” A girl shrugged. She had long blonde hair, and she was wearing nothing but one of Jack’s Boner t-shirts. It made me uncomfortable.
The tall on? Did she mean Jack? “That’s fine but...why are you still here?” I questioned.
She shrugged. “I fell asleep.”
A silent staring contest was all that followed for a moment. The bus was miles away from the last city, so how was she going to get back? i racked my brain for a solution, but Jack soon emerged from his bunk.
“Morning,” he greeted.
“Jack, we need to talk,” I said, standing up from the couch and guiding him down the hallway.
“What’s up?” he asked.
“Are you fucking stupid?!” I said, shouting a little. I didn’t mean to be so blunt, but it sorta just happened.
He frowned at me. “Yeah, but you don’t have to remind me.”
I sighed. This was going to take some explaining. “You brought a girl on the bus last night.”
“So?” he wondered. “How is that different than normal?”
“It wouldn’t be a big deal if we weren’t over 200 miles away from the last city, which is where she is probably supposed to be,” I mentioned.
I could see the gears turning in his head as he paused. “Shit. How’s she supposed to get back?”
“That’s the problem, Jack. We’re going to be on the road for a few days, and she’s stuck with us. We don’t even know who she is,” I pointed out.
“We’ll just talk to Matt about it in a little while. He can figure something out,” he replied.
“I hope you’re right,” I said.
We walked back out to find the girl sitting on the couch, looking around the bus. “Hey,” she said. “I heard you guys talking, and apparently I’m screwed?”
“Well, you were last night,” Jack laughed.
“JACK,” I shouted. “Now is not the time for your dumb jokes. What’s your name anyway?”
“It’s Sadie,” she replied. “I need to call my friend. She’s probably worried sick about me.”
She walked down the hall and grabbed something from Jack’s bunk before locking herself in the bathroom.
“C’mon Maxine,” Jack said. “Don’t be mad at me. It was an accident, I swear.”
“That doesn’t change the fact that it happened. You knew the bus would be leaving early this morning, so why did you bring her on in the first place?” I asked.
“I figured she’d be gone before we took off. Look, Matt will probably buy her a plane ticket or something the next time we stop, and she’ll be out of here. Please, just chill,” he begged.
“And what if Matt can’t fix this? He’s not your fairy godmother who can just wave a wand and fix the problem. I know it’s hard, but please just take this one thing seriously for once,” I commented.
Just then, Alex stumbled out of his bunk sleepily and made his way out to us. Jack hid behind him, scared of me. “Dude, what the fuck?” he asked.
“I made a mistake and Maxine’s mad. Save me,” Jack said.
I quickly explained the situation to him and he turned on Jack. “Dammit Jack!”
Jack was outnumbered, but Sadie took this opportunity to reappear, and he rushed to her and threw an arm around her shoulders. “Hey there. Just thought I’d introduce us. I’m Jack, that’s Alex, and that’s Maxine. She’s Alex’s girlfriend and Matt’s niece.”
She shook his arm away. “That’s nice. Have you figured out when and how I’m leaving yet?”
I shook my head. “Matt hasn’t even made an appearance yet. Chill for awhile.”
“Chill? I’m stuck on stuffy bus with people I don’t even know, and you want me to be calm? Good luck with that,” Sadie replied.
“Well, if you aren’t patient, nothing is going to get done,” I added. Who did she think she was?
“Something better get done, or I’m going to sue this band for all they’ve got,” she remarked.
I was about ready to punch the spoiled brat in the face, but Alex took this moment to step in. “C’mon, Max. Let’s watch a movie on my laptop in my bunk. You two better talk to Matt whenever you see him. We need to get this figured out.”
We went down the hallway, leaving Jack with Sadie. I felt bad that I did so, but this was a lot of his issue. He needed to figure things out, with or without Matt’s help.

Notes

Yeah...it's back. I tried out the sequel and it was a total flop, so I'm just going to fit that story into this one, but I might change it up from what I originally thought it would be. Hopefully you all are happy XD Love you guys! Thanks for reading. New chapter up soon hopefully.

So I just read this story, all in one sitting, and seriously loved it. You're a really great writer. :)
Alex and Max's relationship was so sincere, and even though the end was kind of surprising, I found it perfect in a way. Like one of my favorite endings I've ever read to a fic, actually. Instead of very cliche it more so fit the pieces together, if that makes sense.
I really loved it. If you ever choose to maybe rewrite this story, or perhaps do a sequel to it, I will definitely read. I looked on your profile and unfortunately you don't seem to have anymore Alex/OC centered stories. But if you ever write a new one of those, feel free to let me know as well.
One of the better stories I've read in a while, great job with it. :)

@Billie Joe Gaskarth You're lovely. Thank you <3

No leave it as it is, you may think it can be improved but so can everything, start a new one then you can look back and see how you've developed as a writer :) just personal opinion though ;)
