Kiss and Sell

Jack pulled Alex down into the sand with him on his lap, kissing him suddenly and causing him to giggle into the kiss. The date had gone amazingly. They had just finished swimming in the water together about an hour ago and attacking each other by pushing each other down and at some point Alex had tried to pretend he needed mouth to mouth while still being in the water which had them both awkwardly kissing with the taste of salt and water rushing up their noses.

But now was time to get to the serious stuff, and although Alex really didn't want to end their little moment he decided to do so anyways by pulling out of Jack's kiss and giving him a playful glare. Jack seemed to be stalling. He practically had been all day. When they first arrived at the beach all they were going to do was buy hot dogs and watch people fish, but then Jack wanted to swim and although Alex had wore his swimming trunks he really didn't expect to be entering the cold water, but didn't complain going in when he saw his boyfriend pull his shirt off in front of him.

After hours and hours of swimming Jack had forced him to run around the beach and eat ice cream, then as the sun started to set he linked their hands and insisted they walked the beach until it went down. By that time less people were around, virtually no one, and Jack had mentioned it'd be a good time to have sex in the sand if it were on Alex's bucket list. It was obvious then that Jack was stalling.

"What?" Jack asked, chuckling at his boyfriend's face and swollen lips he just had to lean in to kiss one last time. Alex gave him a I-know-you're-trying-to-distract-me-tell-me-why face, but Jack gave him nothing but a questioning look in response, as if he couldn't practically read Alex's mind.

"I thought we were going to talk." Alex pouted, wrapping his arms around Jack's neck and watching as Jack seemed to squirm nervously. He tapped his fingers against Alex's thigh as he bit the inside of his cheek and shrugged. Alex cocked an eyebrow, "Why are you acting so weird?"

Jack sucked in a small breath and shook his head, "I'm not acting weird, I just... Don't know how you're going to react to what I'm going to ask you." He sighed as he let the sound of the waves gently soothed his nervous thoughts, opening his eyes to look at his slighter boyfriend's worried face.

"I'm sure whatever it is I'm not going to freak out or anything because... you know..." He blushed and looked to the side to avoid Jack's eyes, "I love you and stuff..."

Jack grinned while giving a quick nod and standing up, helping Alex to his feet as well, and pulled him in for a quick hug before mumbling, "Okay, so... Let's talk." He took a step back, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly as he tried to conjure up the right words.

"Let's start with college." Alex suggested quietly, looking down at his feet sinking into the sand, "Uh, well, you're leaving me, aren't you?"

"I... Alex, I'm actually not." Jack chuckled.

"You say that, but-"

"Just listen for a minute, Al, seriously." Jack cut him off, stuffing his hands in his pockets and sighing, "Alex, I am going to college in New York; I have to. I mean, they've already accepted me and I don't have time to apply to anything else because my parents are kicking me out as soon as I graduate. I am moving all the way to New York, but I'm not leaving you."

Alex opened his mouth to argue, to say 'yes you are, that's fucking leaving someone, you dumb ass', but Jack held up a hand and shook his head slowly. Alex quickly shut his mouth (well if you count him muttering "that's leaving" under his breath), and silently waited for his boyfriend to explain what he meant.

"You know how I started working at that pet store even though you begged me to quit?" Jack asked.

Alex tilted his head, "Well, yeah, but what does that have to do with-"

"I was saving up money to rent an apartment in New York for... uh, well, for us. It's really close to my college and, uh, I figured that with a bunch of student loans and stuff we could, uh, y-you know, we could maybe apply you there too." He suggested, biting his lip as he waited for Alex's reaction. He assumed that that part would be the easy part and Alex would be happy to move in together, that's not what he was nervous about.

"Jack..." Alex whispered, "Oh my god, all this time you've just been trying to get me to move in with you?"

"Duh, Alex, I mean... I love you, I can't move away to college and not bring you with me. I'd be so lost without you." He laughed quietly, watching as tears formed in Alex's eyes and sparkled as they fell down his cheeks. He reached up and flicked them away with his thumb, smiling at his boyfriend who whispered, "Oh my god, Jay, I-I'm so happy you said that b-because I have something I need to tell you too and I was s-scared you wouldn't want to be with me anymore because of it, be-because you're going to college an-and I-I just feel so stupid for not rea-realizing how amazing you are."

He tried to stop crying, but then Jack was shaking his head and saying, "Um, th-that's not it, Alex, uh... I... Oh man, I'm really nervous." He laughed, feeling his palms start to get clammy as he pulled them out of Alex's grip and reached into his pocket to fiddle with something important, "Uh... I... I know we're really young and... We haven't been dating for very long... but we've been friends for a long time and more than friends for a while too and I just figured that after this we're going to really start our lives together and it would make sense to... you know... to just..." He pulled out a ring and got down on one knee, Alex gasping and covering his mouth as he started to cry harder, "To just... y'know, get married." He shrugged.

"Oh my god, Jack, no." He sobbed, not being able to believe Jack was asking to marry him.

Jack instantly slumped, thinking Alex was saying no to him, "No? Oh, uh... I guess... I was stupid to think-"

Suddenly Alex was rushing forward and falling into his arms, shaking his head and crying and kissing all over his boyfri- fiancé's face. Jack chuckled nervously when Alex pulled back and asked, "Does that mean yes? Because you kind of said no at first..."

"No, I meant 'no way are you doing this this was totally unexpected and you made me cry and why are you so perfect'. I am saying yes." Alex held his hand out to Jack who slipped the ring on his finger and started grinning.

"Wow, I can't believe I... I mean, we're actually engaged now... Like... Wow." Jack whispered. Alex looked down at the small hearts dotting the golden band and the calligraphy letters spelling out "My Only One" with a bold J etched into the blue birthstone.

"It's so beautiful, Jay." Alex whispered, turning to kiss Jack softly before disconnecting their lips again and looking back at the ring, "We're getting married." He whispered, "Like, actually married... Like... I never even thought we'd ever, ever get married. I... I mean, I thought we would but I never really expected it to happen so soon and I... I'm so happy." He laughed quietly, "I love you so much." He blushed and looked back at Jack.

Jack was grinning. He'd never tire of hearing Alex say those words. He was so ecstatic to know that Alex would be his and only his for the rest of his life. He couldn't wait to start their life together.
