Kiss and Sell

How The World Seems So Unfair, Creating A Love That Cannot Be Shared

Alex felt he should just stick it out and go home despite knowing what wait there. A boost of confidence made him think it was a good idea. He'd just stand up to his father and if he got hurt in the process at least it was only him and he could say he stood his ground about it. Of course, this confidence wore off during his thirty minute walk home which meant Alex turned into the park instead -deciding that hiding in his tree house for the rest of his life was a much more appropriate way to die. Alex hadn't really been to his tree house since he showed Jack it. Honestly, he thought he'd want to go to it more after giving up being a whore, but instead it was the exact opposite. He turned to alcohol and drugs. That was going to stop.

Little did he know Jack had actually took a liking to the old tree. At first, Jack had only went to it when Alex wasn't with him just to feel he was somehow closer to him. He felt like a total creep, but while being up there Jack kind of snooped through all of Alex's old things from when he was younger. That boy had a lot of porn magazines, like maybe more than Jack had! But besides that Jack found a lot of really nice writings. They sounded like poems but they could easily be turned into music. Jack never knew Alex was talented in anything except for being a slut. Jack found comfort in the tree house, like he was a little kid again and time stood still while he was in there, which is why he had been in there trying to distract himself since he saw Danny kissing Alex.

Jack was holding himself back from running home and slicing up his legs. Really, he told himself the pain of everything Alex had been doing to him was ten times worst than any cut could ever make, and it wasn't going to solve any of his problems by making that pain physical. He didn't exactly believe himself, but so far it had kept him in the tree house and far away from any blades. He was tempted to burn himself with his lighter, but he had little fuel left in it and he knew he'd rather use it all on his cigarettes than his skin.

He heard the sound of rustling and glanced back in time to see Alex pushing open the door and climbing in. The blond paused as his eyes met Jack's, "What are you doing here?" He asked quietly -pulling himself the rest of the way in and sliding the door shut again while wrapping his arms around his legs. Jack was on the mattress in the corner -once faced towards the small window which was the only one in the entire tree house -but now he was turning towards the door -readying to leave as he muttered, "Nothing. Just leaving."

"Wait." Alex said as he quickly crawled to sit on the mattress beside the boy who hesitated. He sat back slightly -leaning against the sturdy wall and scooting away from Alex who just scooted closer as he bit his lip nervously. Jack seemed different all of a sudden. In the bathroom he seemed so comforting and caring. Now he looked angry again. "Jack," He breathed before taking a deep breath, "I can't stand being apart like this anymore. You're, like, my best friend ever-"

Jack rolled his eyes, "I'm pretty sure that's Cass, not me. If I were your 'best friend ever' you wouldn't have stopped being my friend in the first place. You know, you say you were doing all of this to protect me, but all you were doing was hurting me so your excuse is bullshit." He growled before turning to look out the window and resting his head against the wall, "Whatever, though, right? Isn't going to change."

"I want it to change." Alex breathed, "I... I was actually going to call you today in here. I want all of this to be different. I was really, really stupid because you're right; my dad couldn't have done anything and I was just being a pussy. I was scared, really scared. Mostly for you. I didn't want you being hurt to be a possibility. I'm sorry." He whispered. Hesitantly, he reached forward and placed his hand on Jack's. He could feel Jack tense under him but slowly relax as he glanced at him from the corner of his eye, "And... Well, you aren't my best friend. You're more than that. Like... not a fuck buddy or just friends with benefits either." He averted his eyes as he blushed, "Jack, I really like you more than any of those things."

Jack turned to look at him. He frowned as he let what Alex said sink in before he said, "I saw you kissing Danny."

"He kissed me, I swear. I pushed him away." Alex defended quickly, "I don't like him like that, Jack. I only like you! Really!" He moved his hand to slip his fingers in the palm of Jack's hand -squeezing his fingers as they both looked down at their hands, "I... I like... Y'know... Wanna be around you all the time and, like, get abducted by aliens together and save an entire planet and maybe name a star after you or something..." He trailed off -glancing up at Jack who had a small smile on his face.

"Really?" He asked quietly -looking up at Alex to finally meet his eyes. Alex nodded quickly before looking down and blushing as he mumbled, "I really like you."

"Like how?" Jack asked -watching as Alex bit his lip and squeezed his hand again. Alex honestly didn't know why he was blushing so much. He assumed it was because he didn't usually talk about his feelings (well ones like these anyways) with Jack and he didn't know he was going to want to hear exactly how he fucking liked him. Alex sighed quietly as he muttered, "Like us being together as a, like, you know, a thing or whatever." He blushed as his free hand moved to play with a loose string on his jeans.

Jack's eyes lit up. Alex glanced up and blushed again as he looked back down when he noticed Jack's grin.

"So, if I asked you out right now what would you say?" Jack asked -eyes gleaming in hopefulness as he watched Alex shrug and mumble, "I'd say... Like... you know... we're practically already datin-" Before he could finish Jack suddenly tackled him to the mattress and kissed all over his face. Alex's red face soon turned pale once again as he smiled nervously at Jack who pulled back to ask, "So... Are we dating then? Just to make sure I didn't totally take all of that the wrong way." He smiled.

Alex blushed, "I mean... if that's what you want..." He breathed.

Oh did Jack want it. He's been wanting it since the day he laid eyes on Alex. He stared down at him with wide eyes -completely unable to believe Alex just agreed to be his boyfriend. He felt like he was going to pass out from lack of oxygen. His heart was beating faster than it ever has in his entire life. For a moment he just hovered above Alex -staring down at him as he slowly recovered from his blush.

"A-are you going to say anything?" Alex asked -averting his eyes to Jack's arm next to his head, "I mean, we don't have to date if you don't want to. I was just saying if you wanted to go out then all you had to do is ask..." He trailed off -glancing up at Jack who was still staring down at him. Jack felt surreal.

"Of course I want to go out with you, Alex." He whispered, "I just... can't believe this is real right now." He breathed.

Alex looked up with a small smile, "Sorry if I surprised you with it."

Jack chuckled, "You kind of did, but I... I honestly couldn't be happier." He grinned. Slowly, Jack lowered to press his lips to Alex's and for a moment it seemed like they were the only two people in the world. When Jack pulled back Alex mumbled, "I'm sorry for everything I ever put you through."

"It's okay." Jack forgave, moving to lay on the mattress beside Alex, "I just can't believe you just asked me out pretty much." He whispered.

Alex sat up and wrapped his arms around his knees, "I have to go home now."

Jack glanced at him with a raised eyebrow, "Really? Now?"

Alex nodded, "I'm sorry. I was going to go home before I knew you were in here. I'm supposed to do something." He mumbled.

Jack hesitated, "Are you going to be okay?" He asked and watched Alex nod slowly, "Okay... I'll see you tonight at the party, right?" He asked.

Alex thought for a moment, "I'll try to come." He glanced up to see Jack sitting with a small smile. He leaned forward and quickly gave Jack a few kisses -trying to make every second last -before he pulled away and mumbled, "If I don't come don't worry about me, okay?"

"Uh, sure." Jack said -cocking an eyebrow, "Are you sure you're going to be okay, Alex?" He asked.

Alex nodded slowly and opened the door to climb down. He waved goodbye to Jack before walking away and straight for home. He knew that today was going to be his last day and honestly he was happy with his last day choices. He hoped Jack would forgive him for not being able to stay. For leaving and never coming back.
