Everything's Magic

Why?

"Are you certain that your mum is going to like me?" Alex asked with a tint of fear in his voice, rubbing his jeans.

It was because Jack had told him that he just received a message from his mum that she would be delivering the stuff instead of the delivery man, and that she had something to tell him. Ever since then, Alex has been nervous.

"You don't have to stay here while she's visiting if it's making you anxious, Alex. I'm absolutely certain she'll like you, but she may not pay attention because she never does." Honestly, Jack hated seeing Alex all this worked up. He couldn't blame him, though. The thought of meeting someone else's parents made Jack nervous, too.

Jack cupped Alex's cheek with one hand, smiling reassuringly as he leant down for a quick kiss.

This seemed to brighten Alex's mood as a beautiful smile appeared on his face. Just the simplest of kisses from Jack can make him happier, he realised.

"So, are you staying?" Jack encouraged, his hand now resting on top of Alex's. The pink-haired boy took a moment to reply, trying to decide what was better for him.

"But you don't see your mum much, I don't wanna intrude on your time together." Alex sheepishly replied, ducking his head. He hated being a bother to people. He didn't want to be a bother to Jack.

"No, it's fine. Hey, stop thinking you're gonna intrude on things, Alex, because you're not. Me and my mum don't really talk much nowadays, so you'll be fine." Jack reassured. He didn't like Alex thinking he was a burden or something to him and his mum, because he definitely wasn't for him and most probably not for his mum.

Jack was surprised when he suddenly felt lips against his and he was being pulled down. He remembered it was Alex, because who else could it be? He smiled into the kiss as Alex's fingers ran through his hair softly. Their lips moving together beautifully.

After a while of kissing sweetly, Alex pulled away, his facial features relaxed, unlike before.

"Thank you so much, Jack." Alex gave Jack a hug in thankfulness, breathing in the scent of coffee, the breakfast they had earlier and a smell he couldn't really describe.

Nobody has ever told Alex something like that. He didn't know why, but it made him happier and feel more confident around Jack knowing he wasn't what he thought he was to him.

Jack chuckled, placing his soft lips on Alex's smooth skin on his neck before moving them away in a sweet gesture. They stared ay each other for a while, admiring one another.

A knock on the floor seconds later broke them apart and Jack watched Alex visibly tense up. He quickly placed a kiss on his lips that lasted a couple of seconds to calm him down.

"It's okay." He smiled, moving Alex's hair out his eyes.

Maybe it's a little too early for meeting "the parents", but Jack thought Alex could get through this.

He stood up, going over the answer the door. Finding his mum standing there in her rich dress, he awkwardly greeted her.

Things shouldn't have to be awkward between him and his mum, but unfortunately, it was. Ever since his mum let him have his own house things have not been the same between them. But he learnt how to deal with it and get used to it even though he missed the company. Alex was in his life now, though, so he didn't have to worry about being alone any longer.

He noticed the weird look on his mum's face, as if she was sad. I narrowed his eyebrows toward slightly, his forehead wrinkled.

"Hi, mum, come in." He said slowly, moving out the way as he let his mum in. He closed the door, making his way over the kitchen before he noticed Alex on the sofa staring at his mum, chewing his fingernails.

He quickly moved over to Alex, pulling him up. That's when Jack's mum noticed him.

"Mum, this is Alex, my..." He suddenly froze on the spot, millions of thoughts springing through his head.

He couldn't say it.

He felt a heavy weight on his chest as he breathed in and out, closing his eyes.

"My friend." He opened them again, and his voice was a little hushed. He felt Alex's eyes on him, but he chose to ignore them, walking back off to the kitchen with a shake in his steps.

There were no voices behind him, so he turned on the kettle to drown out the silence.

He made the tea for his mum slowly, trying to take as much time as he could.

He didn't know why he couldn't just tell his mum that Alex was his boyfriend, and it made him guilty that he hadn't said it. The thoughts were too much to form the word 'boyfriend', so he said 'friend' instead.

Maybe it was because he was scared of judgement. That sounded like the certain answer to why he hadn't addressed Alex as his boyfriend.

He sighed, taking a breath as he returned to his mum and Alex. Alex was still sat on the sofa while the brunette was stood there.

He went to hand his mum her tea, but she stopped him.

"Jack," Her tone was serious and her face held no emotion. "your dad, he's really ill."

Jack felt himself start to shake again as his eyes widened and his breath got catch in his throat. His mum almost never spoke about his dad to him, and when she did she was.topping up on how he was sending money through.

But she's only talked about his illness once.

This made Jack incredibly uneasy, a bad feeling in his gut.

"Y-Yeah, I-I know." He stumbled on his own words due to the panic that was flowing through his body.

Her emotions finally appeared, and she had sadness printed all over her face.

"Jack, hon, dad hasn't got that long to live. His heart is failing him. He has a week left. I'm so sorry, sweetie." She finally broke the news.

A smash could be heard and Jack started crying, bringing his hands up to his eyes to make sure nobody saw. But they did, and Alex was right up to Jack's side, pulling him into his chest.

He couldn't believe what his mother was saying to him. He didn't want his dad to go. Even though they've been distant for a year, he loved him like crazy. His mother knew this, so she kindly took Jack from Alex's grip, hugging him herself.

"I'm so sorry, baby." She gently rubbed his back, trying to calm him down, even though it was nearly impossible. She gave Alex a sad smile as he stood there, concerned about Jack, wanting him to stop crying as he hated to see him upset.

"Why?" Jack said against his mum's dress, it coming out painful and muffled. She squeezed him tighter, resting her head on top of his.

"I don't know, Jack. I'm so sorry." She let a tear slip down her cheek.

Alex was almost crying as well, hating seeing people cry over such tragic events. He would place himself in their positions and feel the pain they were feeling. It wasn't great.

Jack clutched onto his mother afraid that she too would leave him. She held on a little more gently, comforting her son.

After a while, Jack calmed down, half asleep on his mother. She looked at Alex, giving him the look as to help. He stepped forward, wrapping one arm around Jack's waist. He flinched, pushing Alex's hand away.

This hurt Alex, but he understood.

"Jack, I have to go." His mum said sadly, running her fingers up and down his back while giving him a sympathetic look.

"Why?" Jack was about to cry again, not wanting his mum to leave him. But she had to go back to her husband.

"I just have to, hon," She sighed softly, gently pulling Jack away from her."Alex will look after you, I'm sure."

Jack nodded, stepping away from her. He tried not to cry again, keeping it all in the best he could.

Alex stood still, looking between Jack and his mum constantly. He really didn't know what to do.

The women placed a kiss on Jack's forehead, saying her goodbye. Jack's bottom lip was trembling, and he wanted to bring him into his chest, and when his mum left, he pulled the sad boy into his arms.

What he didn't expect though, was for Jack to pull himself right back.

"Leave me alone." He trembled, walking away from the pink-haired boy with tears falling down his cheeks.

"Jack." Alex called after him, even though he was hurting inside. He ran up to Jack, trying to stop him with his arms.

"Go away, Alex. Just please leave me alone!" He sobbed, pushing past Alex and ran upstairs.

The older boy sighed, his hands lightly shaking as he tried to figure out what to do.

Should I leave him and let him have his space, or should I go up there and comfort him?

He honestly didn't know what to choose.

He settled on what his heart told him and walked upstairs to comfort his crying boyfriend.
