Time Bomb

Finally my dad was out of the hospital after three months of recovery, it was awful to see him just laying around in a hospital when I couldn’t do anything for him. I haven’t seen my mom yet but I’m still terrified to run into her in a store or some place, if that happens and Alex isn’t with me I’m going to have to grow some balls quickly. But my dad is perfectly okay, which makes me happy.
“Ryan?” Alex said poking his head into the bathroom
“Yeah?” I asked
“Is it ready?” He asked
“Two more minutes.” I said looking at my phone
The timer ticked slowly as Alex walked into the bathroom and sat on the sink with it. He started at me as I stared at the timer. Alex and I made eye contact right as the timer went off, he picked it up off of the sink and looked at me
“How many lines?” I asked
“One.” He said
“Then why am I so sick!” I groaned
“We’ll make you a doctor’s appointment.” He said
I nodded as he threw away the pregnancy test, we walked out into the kitchen and washed our hands when there was a knock at the door. Alex walked over and opened it
“Can I help you?” He asked
“Is there a Ryan Rosen here?” She asked
It was my mother.
“No.” Alex said
I laughed a bit because it was true, I’m Ryan Gaskarth now. I walked over and stood behind Alex
“What do you need mom?” I asked
“I just want to talk to you.” She said
“Talk.” I said
“In private.” She urged
“Whatever you’re going to say to me can be said while my husband is being a shield.” I said
Alex laughed and I clung to his shirt and looked around him
“Well, I wanted to say that I was sorry for being such a shitty mother.” She said
“You should be sorry.” I said
“I also wanted to say that I feel that you deserved to live with your dad since day one and I was just too proud to call him.” She said
“Why because I was a one night stand gone wrong?” I asked
“No because I thought I could take care of you on my own.” She said
“You royally fucked me up mom.” I said
“Elliot did too.” She said
“How the fuck did you know about that?” I asked gripping tighter to the back of Alex’s shirt
“I’ve been talking to your father.” She said
“Did he tell you that I lived here?” I asked
“No, I talked to one of those band guys that you hang out with.” She said “I told them that I was one of your highs school teachers.” She added
“Which one?” I asked
“I don’t know his name, he was pretty short.” She said
Johnny.
“Is that all?” Alex asked
“I want to see her.” My mom said
“Why?” I asked
“So I can see that you grew up well.” She said
“Why?” I asked
“I want to know that I didn’t ruin everything.” She said
I sighed
“Come in.” I said
“Ryan are you sure?” Alex asked
“Let her in.” I said
He moved his arm and my mother walked in, it’s been forever since I’ve seen her but she looked good; clean
“Are you clean?” I asked facing away from her and walking into the kitchen
“Clean and sober.” She said
“Good to hear.” I said
“Yeah.” She said
“After today, I don’t want you near me, I don’t want you near my building, and I don’t want you near my husband, my friends, my job, or my fucking father. Am I making myself clear?” I asked
“Loud and clear Ry.” She said
“It’s Ryan to you.” I said
“Okay.” She said “Turn around so I can see you.” She said
I turned around and looked at her.
“See you didn’t turn out too bad, you’re gorgeous.” She saod
“Calling me pretty isn’t going to help me not hate you.” I said
She nodded and examined me
“Tattoos just like your father, actually the spitting image of him.” She said
“I know, I’m glad I don’t look like you.” I spit
She looked a bit offended but I didn’t feel bad because it was true
“You’ve done good.” She said
“I know.” I said
“So married?” She asked
I nodded, not in the mood for making small talk.
“What do you do?” She asked Alex
“I’m a lead singer.” He said
“Are you taking care of her?” She asked
“Better than you ever did.” Alex snarled
I loved that he hated her just as much as I did.
“You can leave now and remember, stay away from everything and everyone that I love.” I said
She nodded and walked back out of the door.
“Johnny fucking Christ.” I said
“What?” Alex asked
“That’s who told her, Johnny.” I said
“How do you know?” He asked
“Really short.” I said
“Zacky?” He questioned
“Zacky isn’t this stupid.” I said
Alex nodded and I walked into the living room and started pacing, the pacing upset my stomach and I ran to the bathroom and threw my breakfast up.
“Let’s make that appointment.” Alex said
I nodded and called my doctor, she said she would see me in the morning.
“Tomorrow morning.” I said
He nodded as he slipped his shoes on, I smiled and followed along. He had a show today and I was going to fill in on bass for Zach who is down with the flu. I’ve been to so many practiced to learn the bass parts for the songs that they’re playing.
“You ready?” Alex asked
I smiled and we left the apartment making sure we locked it and we drove to the venue together, when we arrived my nerves kicked in.
“You okay?” Jack asked as I got Zach’s signature pink bass adjusted to my height.
“I’m nervous.” I said
“Aye cutie don’t be.” Rian said
“It’s always nice to have you around Rian.” I said
“As well as you Ryan.” He laughed
It was always good having him around, he always made me smile.
“So Ryan.” Alex asked
“Yes?” I asked
“Don’t be scared, it’s a little nerve racking at first but then you’ll get into it.” He said
“You guys promise not to throw me into the crowd?” I asked
“I promise.” Alex said
I looked at Jack and he walked onto the stage without answering me, the crowd screamed as the other two walked on.
“So today we don’t have Zach because he’s home with the flu, a bad case.” Alex said
There were some aws in the crowd maybe even a sob
“We aren’t canceling though, we had one brave member of the All Time Low family agree to learn some of his bass parts. She’s a little scared so please make her feel welcome.” Jack said waving me out
“I’d like to welcome Mrs. Ryan Gaskarth to the stage.” Alex said
I walked out and the crowd went fucking nuts
“You guys remember my girlfriend.” Alex said
More cheering
“Well she’s his wife now.” Jack said
Some cheering and I’m pretty sure I heard a few sobs.
“Hi.” I said into Alex microphone.
“She’s nervous.” Rian said
“If I mess up please don’t hate me.” I said
“If she messes up I’ll take her place and she can sing.” Alex said
I just looked at him
“She looks at me like she doesn’t know the words to the song on the line up.” He laughed
I knew the words to all of his songs.
“Don’t believe that, I know every word he’s written.” I said
The crowd laughed at our bantering.
We started playing and I did a million times better than I thought I would, near the end Alex stopped the music before the last song which is supposed to be Jasey Rae but we already did that one so now I’m lost.
“So guys, we’re going to add a song to our set.” Alex said
I looked over at him
“Ryan is going to sing it since she’s miss, “I know every word he’s ever written.”” Alex laughed
“What song?” I asked
“I guess you’ll find out.” He said walking over to me and taking the Bass off. He adjusted it to his height and pushed me to the mic.
“Lex.” I said
The music started and I smiled at him immediately knowing what it was.
“Hey there it’s good to see you again, it never felt right calling this just friends. I’m happy, if you’re happy with yourself… take off your shirt your shoes, those skinny jeans I bought for you. We’re diving in there’s nothing else to lose.” I sang
I smiled and sang along to my favorite song, when the song ended I was lifted and landed in the crowd taking my thrower with me, I looked to my left to see who had thrown me and it was Jack
“You’re a bitch.” I said
He smiled at me and I just squinted at him, when the crowd moved us up to the front the security guards pulled us out of them. Jack put his arm around me and I slung it off, I walked back to the stage and Alex was laying on the ground with a towel over his face. I wasn’t mad, nor was I upset, I was just a little shaken up.
“You okay?” Rian asked me
“She wants to kill me.” Jack said
“I’m just a little shaken up, that’s all.” I said
“We have the meet and greet, you’re a part of it today.” Alex said from the floor
“I am?” I asked
“Yeah, you played the show.” Jacks said
I nodded and looked down at Alex and he smiled at me.
“I love you.” He smiled
“Do you?” I asked
He squinted his eyes at me and I stuck my tongue out at him,
“I love you too.” I said
“Gross.” Jack said
“Oh shut up Barakat, let them be in love.” Rian said
“Thank you Rian.” Alex said
He smiled and I helped Alex off of the floor and we walked hand in hand to the meet and greet, when we walked out into the crowd and they went nuts. I held onto Alex’s arm pretty tight until we got to our table set up. I sat down in the chair in between Jack and Alex. When fans started to walk up to us I freaked a little not knowing what they were going to do. After a while I started to relax because the All Time Low fan base is the nicest one that I have ever been around, Avenged fans are nuts, I was almost rundown by a mob trying to get to Johnny. They all smiled at the guys and thanked me for preforming so they wouldn’t have to cancel. When the meet and greet was over Alex and I headed home, making sure that no one was following us. When we got home Alex pulled me down onto the couch and stared at me.
“What?” I asked
“I’m hungry.” He said
“What do you want me to make?” I asked
“Food.” He smiled
I squinted at him
“What do we have?” He asked
I shrugged and he made a cute thinking face
“Do you want me to just make something?” I asked
He smiled and nodded, I kissed his nose and walked into the kitchen. I searched through the cupboards and the refrigerator and decided to make a pasta that my dad used to make. I got everything out and started making it, after I popped them in the oven to finish cooking I started a timer. I walked out to the living room where Alex was doodling on his guitar.
“Lex do you want a glass of wine?” I asked
“I’ll have whatever you’re having.” He smiled
“You don’t like what I’m going to drink.” I smiled
“Then a beer?” He questioned
“Okie.” I smiled
I walked back into the kitchen and grabbed his beer and a glass down for myself, I sat in the kitchen listening to Alex play as I waited on the food to finish. I lost track of time and the over timer scared me, I walked over and stupidly pulled the pan out without oven mitts.
“FUCK!” I screeched dropping the pan onto the counter
I heard Alex’s guitar his the floor as I sank to it.
“Ry let me see.” He said scrambling around the island
I cradled my hands to my chest and he started the sink, he helped me up to my feet and forcefully extended my arms and pushed my hands under the ice cold water. I pushed my face into his back as he held my hands under the water; staining his shirt with tears.
“You okay?” He asked
“No.” I said
“What do you want me to finish with dinner?” He asked
“No, I want to finish.” I said
“Can you grab anything?” He asked
“Can you wrap me up?” I asked
He nodded and left me to soak my hands, when he came back it gently dried my hands.
“This may burn.” He said
I nodded knowing that it would, he sprayed it with the antiseptic spray and the tears fell faster. I didn’t know why I was crying, I usually don’t. He put the burn cream on my hands and wrapped them up in gauze and then an ace wrap so I wouldn’t rip the gauze off. He lifted my chin up when he finished and kissed the tears off of my face.
“No dinner is worth your tears.” He said
I laughed and kissed him, I walked over to the stove and took the sauce off and poured it over the lasagna rolls.
“Okay come here.” I said
He got up and walked over tom e
“What are they?” He asked
“They’re spinach lasagna rolls.” I said
“They look yummy.” He said
“How many do you want?” I asked
He held up two fingers and I smiled, I dished out two for him and two for me. He grabbed his Beer and I poured my juice. I carefully walked into the living room and sat next to him. He smiled over at me and took a bite,
“This is very good Ry.” He said
“Did you doubt me?” I asked
“I never doubt your cooking.” He smiled
“Good cause I cried for this.” I smiled
“We’re going to take you to the doctor after we eat.” He said
“For why?!” I slightly yelled
“For prescription ointment for those burns.” He said
I squinted at him, and he leaned over and kissed my nose.
“Fine, I’m just going to eat very, very slowly.” I pouted
“Tell me again why I married you?” He asked
“Because I’m cute.” I smiled
He smiled at me and we started eating again, when we finished he put the dishes into the sink and scooped me up in his arms.
“We’ll be back Baltimore.” He said as he closed the door
He didn’t put me down until we reached the car.
“Was that really necessary?” I asked
“Yes because I knew you would fight me on walking out the door.” He smiled as wee drove to my doctors office.
When we got there he just stared at me as we walked up to the building.
“Hey Ryan.” The receptionist smiled
“Hi Jodie.” I smiled
“Is Ryan’s doctor available? I know it’s kind of late.” Alex asked
“Go right on back.” Jodie said
We walked back to my regular doctor’s office knowing that we would be back tomorrow morning just a few doors down at my lady parts doctor.
“Heya Ryan and Alex.” My doctor smiled as we walked into her office
“Hey.” I said
“We need a prescription.” Alex said
“What did you do this time grace?” She asked
I smiled at her, that nickname will never go away
“Grabbed a pan out of the oven with no gloves.” I said
“When are you going to remember not to do that?” She asked raising her eyebrows
I shrugged, this wasn’t my first time here for this. It was like my eighth. She smiled and just handed me a bottle of the ointment.
“Thanks Doc.” Alex said
“Don’t mention it, just watch her.” She said
“I will try.” He said
She smiled at him and we walked out of her office and right into my lady parts doctor.
“Well hello Ryan.” She said
“Hey.” I smiled
“I saw that you have an appointment tomorrow. Is everything okay?” She asked looking from Alex to me
“Yeah, I was hoping if you could check for any sign of baby.” I said
“I can do you now.” She said
“Really?” Alex said
“Why not? You’re already here.” She said
I smiled and we followed her into the ultrasound room, she gave me a gown and I changed.
“Just lay here and put your feet up on these.” She said
I did as I was told and instantly felt uncomfortable. Alex walked over and took my hand, I watched the doctor as she set up the probe like tool.
“It’s going to be cold.” She said
I gave Alex and helpless look and he leaned over and kissed me on the forehead, she inserted the probe like thing making me jump. It was cold, it felt weird, and I just didn’t like it.
“Listen.” She said
We got silent and we heard a little thumping noise
“That’s a second heart beat.” She said
I looked up at Alex and he smiled. She took out the probe thing and let me put my clothes back on, she laid me back on the table and grabbed the ultrasound wand.
“This gel will be cold.” She smiled
I lifted my shirt and she squirted it on my lower abdomen. I smiled and squeezed Alex’s hand as she spread the gel on my tummy.
“Look at the screen.” She said
We both looked
“Do you see this small oval like thing?” She asked
“Yes.” I said
“That’s your baby.” She said
“Oh my god.” I smiled
“Do you want a print out?” She asked
I nodded and she gave me a towel to wipe off the gel, when I was cleaned up she handed me a few different sizes of pictures.
“Thank you so much.” I said
“I’ll see you next month.” She said
I nodded and Alex and I walked back out to his car.
“You okay?” He asked
Tears just fell from my eyes, but they were happy tears.
“Baby.” I said
He looked over at me
“We’re pregnant.” I sobbed happily leaning over to kiss him
