Me Without You
You Can't Avoid It.
It had been almost six years since I had moved out to California to live with my aunt. I drove down the highway towards San Diego, a familiar band’s music blasting through my stereo. I smiled as I heard my name sung through the speakers. It was nice to know, even though none of them came back for me like they had promised, they still thought about me once upon a time. Whether they remembered me now... I doubted that they thought about me unless they were singing that song. I hadn't seen any of the All Time Low boys since they had left that day. I went to one of their concerts once but even though I stood pressed against the barricade they never saw me. I tried my best to stay out of the way now, knowing they had all moved on and built up lives. But considering my group of friends, making a conscious effort to avoid the band was getting harder and harder.
I pulled up outside the San Diego home of my two favourite people. Shutting off the engine I slid out of the car and ran my hand along the back of the massive tour bus that was waiting outside. I signalled for the crew unpacking to be quiet as I quietly turned the front door of the house.
“Mama, dónde está Jasey?” I peeked round the corner and smiled at Vivian before running full force at Vic and jumping on his back.
“Peek-a-boo!” I yelled, Vic spinning me around in circles before pulling me around so he could hug me properly.
“Chica!” Vic exclaimed as he hugged me tight against his chest. “Te he echado de.” I giggled and rolled my eyes at him.
“Deja de hablarme en español, Víctor.” I gave him a quick slap on the chest. “Lo odio.” I groaned as I spotted my favourite brother appear on the stairs.
“But you do it so well, Jasey.” Mike laughed as he ran at me.
“Mikey!” I squealed before jumping into this arms. He lifted me up bridal style and carried me over to the couch and plopped us down. I cuddled into his chest as Vic mumbled about Mike getting an unbalanced amount of affection and how I should love them both equally. “Deja de ser un bebé.” I called over the back of the couch. Mike rested his chin on the top of my head and I sunk into him.
“Six months is too long.” I murmured into his chest. “Never do that again.” I felt Mike smile against my hair.
“I missed you too, Jase.”
“No! You can't just make up rules as we go along Mike!” Vic yelled across the table, tossing apartments across the Monopoly board at him. Mike held his hands up against his face to protect himself from the onslaught as I brought more drinks in from the kitchen.
“What's he done this time?” I sighed to Vic as I took my seat in between him and Mike.
“Apparently he can trade out his apartments from property to property.” I rolled my eyes and whacked Mike's shoulder. “See, told you she wouldn't approve. Listen to your lady, Fuentes!”
“I am not his lady.” I muttered as I rolled the dice. “Do you hear, Victor?” Vic chuckled lowly as I moved my piece along the board. Mike's hand trailed patterns across my knee under the table. “And you. I'm no one’s lady.” Both boys laughed and saluted me as I took all their money. “And I waste your asses at this game.” Vic groaned and Mike swiped his hand across the table, sending the pieces and the board flying all over the dining room. He looked down at me menacingly and I cowered back into my chair.
“Not my lady, aye?” He sauntered towards me and I squealed as I tried to get as far back against the wall as I could. “Are you not my lady, Roberts?” I beamed as I shook my head.
“No way!” At that, Mike lifted me up and pushed me down on the table. I squealed giggles and Mike pulled me by my legs until my face was under his.
“I beg to differ.” I flailed my arms and legs around laughing for Vic to save me. Mike shot Vic a challenging expression who simply raised his hands above his head and told me I was on my own.
Mike pressed a hard kiss down on my nose. “Not my girl, huh?” Another kiss on my forehead, my right cheek. “Not my girl, Roberts?” Mike smashed kissed all over my face and tickled me as I squirmed giggling underneath him. “Are you my girl, Jasey?” I shook my head fiercely and slid free of his grasp and off the table, crawling between his legs. I turned and stuck my tongue out at him before racing to the stairs. “Never!” I yelled as I took them two at a time. I could hear Mike laughing as he chased me through the house and I skidded into his room, standing in panic about where to hide before crawling under the bed. I heard the door swing open and the floorboards creak as Mike slowly searched the room. I clamped a hand over my mouth to muffle my breathing as the footsteps ceased. I screamed as a hand grabbed my ankle and pulled me out from my hiding place.
Mike lifted me up and tossed me onto the bed. I giggled and crawled as far against the head board as I could manage, Mike constantly yanking me back to a lying position by grabbing my legs.
“Are you sure you're not my girl?” Mike chuckled as I hugged one of his pillows against my chest, curled up against his headboard.
“I'm no one’s girl.” I chuckled as Mike slowly made his way up the bed on his knees. He reached put and wrapped his fingers around one of my ankles, his eyes glistening. He yanked me down so I was lying flat underneath him and he propped himself up on his elbows, hovering over me, his nose almost touching mine. Mike leaned in and brushed his lips against mine so they were barely touching, sending shivers through my body. Small kisses trailed across my neck and up to my ear.
“Positive?” I shuddered as he whispered against my ear and a low chuckle escaped his lips. “Thought so.” Mike smashed his lips to mine and wound a hand into my hair. “My girl.” Mike whispered between kisses. I giggled as Mike flipped us over and pulled me up so I was leaning on his chest. I snatched the remote from the night stand and flicked the TV on, rolling my eyes at the title screen that greeted me. We snuggled ourselves under the covers as the opening credits to the fourth Harry Potter movie played.
“Seriously, Jasey, will you?” I stared up at Mike confused.
“Will I what?” I questioned. Mike took a breath and traced pictures on my side.
“Actually be my girl, like, officially.” Our eyes stayed locked for what seemed like forever. I smiled and laughed to myself.
“All you want to do is put a label on what we already are.” I pecked Mike's lips. “If having a label will make you happy, then yes I will.” Mike beamed as he produced his phone and wiggled Instagram at me. I had never let the boys post pictures of me anywhere, mainly because I knew they were friends with All Time Low. I sighed in defeat and leaned in so Mike could snap a picture of him kissing my nose.
“I finally got her.”
I smiled at how happy that simple photo made him and even though it shouldn't bother me, I was glad that my hair was covering most of my profile so you could hardly tell who it was. I could avoid my old friends for that little bit longer, but I knew that they would want to find out who Mike's mystery girl was eventually. And when they did, I would have to face up to them, and make it seem like them forgetting me didn't bother me at all.
Notes
I thought I'd add another chapter to get the story started. Let me know what you think!!!!
