The First Time

Emma’s POV

It’s been a long day for me. I got to treat some patients today and it made me very happy to try new stuff. It was really nice of Ms. Salling, my boss to teach us interns the basics. I even got to treat a little girl who got her arm broken. Poor little thing. At least she’s okay now.

I was going to the cafeteria when Ms. Salling told me that I got another patient to treat today. I was so stoked so, I went to where the ambulance was going to pass by with a couple of nurses who are going to help me. I put my gloves on and the adrenaline rush was coming.

When the paramedics came they said that it was no biggy. Just some scratches from the fall that led to cuts that caused bleeding. They also said that the patient hit his head pretty hard and that he is now unconscious.

The nurses brought him in and we were speed walking so that we could go to the room where we were supposed to treat the patient. The process went so fast and they were walking so quickly I got a bit left behind. I couldn’t even see the patient yet. Man, I’m out of shape. More training to do.


“Okay, so tell me the info.” I said to Maggie, a nurse who was pushing the bed and my only friend in the hospital.She was older and more experienced.

“Male, 23 years old, and well, you know what happened.”

“Got it. Name?”

“Zack Merrick.” My jaw opened and I was shocked and scared. I’m not ready for him.

“Is there any other doctor that can treat him?” I asked Maggie.

“What happened? You were excited back there and no, no other doctors are available. The other interns are busy and so is your boss. You’re the only doctor. Don’t back out now. You can do this.” She replied

We got to the room and I took a deep breath. I could see cuts everywhere.

“Okay, I’m ready.”

The treatment was no biggy, quite simple actually. I covered his scars and cuts and stopped the bleeding. I treated his head so that it could heal faster. It was all so fun. I was getting better as an intern and that made me very happy. The only thing that was tough was looking at his face.
