It was the night of me and Rian's party and it was already in full swing. The music was blasting, the kids were dancing, the drinks were flowing and good times and blurry memories were being made everywhere and by everyone. Aside from me.

Thankfully our house was so packed and everyone was so deep into getting buzzed no one had hardly noticed I was sitting alone on the stairs, and if anyone had it was nothing more than a confused glance in passing. I let out a sigh and continued to fiddle with the string brackets littering my wrists. I had contemplated just throwing in the towel and going to bed but I was fearful that I would return upstairs to find the space already occupied.

As much as I was thankful for the boys throwing Rian and I this party, I just wasn’t in the mood. I continued to sit and mow over any options I had to escape the party unnoticed. I was about to make a dash for the front door and just chill at the water tower till the party died down before I froze solid as a worn pair of converse stepped into view before me.

"Can I get you a drink?" A rough voice asked as I continued to stare down into my lap. "I get that you’re mad at me, I deserve that, but don't avoid me on our birthday week." The voice finished bringing my eyes upward. My gray blue orbs locking on his warm brown ones for no longer than a split second before they fell back onto my lap. A moment of silence between the two of us passed, though the silence its self was swallowed by the vibrating bass coming from Rian's amps around the house before Alex sighed and reluctantly took a seat beside me on the stairs. "I take it as you’re not enjoying your birthday?" He asked running his hands down his thighs like he does when he's nervous about something.

"It’s not the party" I muttered causing him to jump lightly at the sound of my voice, "I'm just not in the mood."

"Jasey I am sorry about ignoring you!" He pleaded turning his knees toward me so he could fully look at me. "Please let me explain wha-"

"I never said I was upset about you." I snapped never taking my eyes off my lap, "not everything is about you Alex."

Alex sighed running his hands through his hair, making the whole encounter appear painful to him. He didn't appear at all drunk or even tipsy, maybe trying to avoid him would have been simple had he a few drinks in him. But then again maybe he would run off and bone some other dyed blond bimbo and swap spit in front of me.

"I’m sorry." He sighed looking down at me.

"It doesn’t change anything, you could hit a dog with your car and say sorry but the dogs still hurt."

"What?"

"Alex don't you get it," I sighed looking over at him, "you can say sorry all you want, but just like you said you cared and ran off with Tammy, your words mean nothing if you don't stand by them!"

"I do care!" He shouted over the increasing volume of the music.

"Sure doesn’t seem like!" I snapped, letting my eyes drill into his, "friends don't do that."

"It wasn’t my choice Jasey!" He snapped. “I would never hurt you on purpose!”

"What a load of bull shit!" I shouted back standing up, "I’m done Alex, enjoy your life with Tammy." I yelled starting up the stairs. I heard him get to his feet and call after me but I was in no way going to give him the satisfaction in knowing he still had a place in my life the second he wanted it. It was time I decided to put my own suffering to an end. I knew I was being dramatic and jealous. But the thing was, I no longer cared what I was acting like, I didn't care that Alex and I were nothing more than friends when he did what he did, what he did was cruel and it hurt me, and he knew it. I ran up the stairs darting for my room, just moments before I could reach my door, BAMB! My body collided with another and I fell back. The boy’s strong arms wrapping around my back before my body could hit the floor.

"IM SO SORRY" The boy rushed as my eyes slipped up to meet his icy blue ones.

"Riley?"

"In the flesh!" He smiled standing me up so I could support my own body.

"Uhm thanks I guess" I muttered out brushing off my shirt.

"You okay?" He asked leaning in lightly and cupping my cheek so my eyes were to remain locked on his.

"Not as much as I should be I guess..." I admitted looking off in attempts to avoid his knowing gaze.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" He asked, the phrase long enough for the thick stench of liquor and beer to seep of his tongue and hit my face with its moist warmth.

"I'm not sure that’s the best idea Riley" I sighed stepping backwards only to find one of his arms still bound around me to hold my body in place.

"Come on" he cooed with a low chuckle, "have a little fun, your 17 now, let’s talk!"

"JASEY!" A voice snapped from behind me from the end of the hall, I didn't even have to turn around to know it was Alex. The same moment my hands slid to Riley's chest lightly pushing him back into my bedroom.

"On second thought let’s have fun!" I rushed trying to run from Alex as best I could.

The moment the door shut Riley's warm gaze stoned over and his warm smile disintegrated to a smirk.

"You’re so stupid!" He snarled pushing me from the door and to the floor, "you still haven’t figured it out yet have you?"

"Riley stop! What are you doing?" I pushed his chest as he tried to hovered over me.

"Stupid, stupid girl..." He called running a hand over my face causing me to cringe at his touch.

"RILEY STOP!" I snapped pushing his hand away as he grabbed both of mine and pinned me to the floor. "RILEY STO-"

My words disappeared into his moth as it was forcefully pressed to mine. His lips so tainted with the taste of beer they could have made another person tipsy at the slightest touch. "Stop fighting me, you’ll never win!" He growled against my lips as I kicked and squirmed trying to break from his grip. His mouth was pushed against mine as I shook my head trying to escape. I could feel my cheeks begin to stain with hot tears as they poured down my face. His lips pulled from mine as nothing but whimpers escaped my mouth. I had no idea what was going to happen or what Riley was going to do. He lifted my arms above my head to hold me down with a single hand as I continued to cry and kick.

"Please don't!" I cried barely above a whisper as his free hand wondered to my jeans.

"You should have just listened to Alex and gone out with me when I asked!" He snarled letting his hand linger across my stomach. "You were tampering with our plan!"

"RILEY STOP!" I kicked as he fiddled with the button of my jeans.

"JASEY!?" A voice from the hall bellowed out in fear.

"Stop yelling!" He snarled as the voice began to bang on the door, Riley's hand slipping to my crotch to rip my jeans down.

"HELP!" I screamed out and Riley took a swing at my gut. A cry of agony ripping through my body as the cry caused him to lift his fist above my face.

"AALLLEEEXXX!" I screeched before Riley took a blow to my face causing me to cry out in agony again. I continued to cry as the bangs on my door turned to kicks and the kicks were joined with yells.

I took punch after punch as I took every chance I could to scream out Alex's name. I took one last blow to the face before my head fell limp and my crying stopped. My vision was slowly growing to a blur as my will to fight him anymore slowly faded into blackness. The door flung open and Riley's crushing body weight was soon lifted from my body with a growl.

"Jasey..." A voice called as I was scooped off the ground. I looked up compelling my eyes to stay open as I attempted to force my mind to create a clear image, "Jasey it’s me, stay with me!" A boy called as I could hear him running down the hall. At the time I hadn’t known it was Alex who was pulling me from the scene but I clung to his shirt and let out a shrill cry in pain as my stomach brushed against his.

"I know Jasey, just stay awake, I’ve got you! Please just stay awake!" The voice begged as my body was kissed by the winter air meaning we were now outside and moving quickly.

"It hurts!" I cried out at a loss of better words.

"I know Jasey just stay with me!" The voice cried, "I’m sorry, just stay with me!"

The voice was softer than it had been at first as my hearing slowly began to fade away like my missing vision. "Jasey look at me, please look at me, and just stay awake!" The voice begged frantically. "Were almost there just stay awake!"

"I’m scared..." I whispered out as my worst nightmare took over and I slowly faded into the blackness.
