Jack POV

The big day had come. We had one hour left until the small ceremony and both our mums were bustling around us, tugging at our hair, our ties and about everything else that could be adjusted. Alex wanted to talk in private.

“Jacky, I’m scared…” he whispered.

“What of?” I asked, a look of confusion probably on my face.

“I feel like someone will hurt us,” he replied.

“Lex, that is not true in any way. Why would someone try to hurt us?”

“Well, we are homosexuals and many people are against that,” he said, lowering his head.
“No, shh, it will be alright. I’m here to protect you,” I replied, sad that he felt this way. But it was true to some point, people here were still homophobic and a lot of people weren’t going to come just because we were two men getting married.

Alex started crying and I just held him tight, stroked his hair and generally comforted him. He stopped after some time and it was shortly before the ceremony at the chapel was going to start. We decided to get in the car with our mums already when my phone buzzed.
