I Should Have Told You How I Felt
Jack’s POV
Fuck. What had I done? Sure, Lillie was probably the hottest damn thing I’d ever seen, but Alex had saved her. He was hers and she was his. I thought one kiss with Lille just to prove t myself that there was no spark or connection would’ve set my mind that Lillie and Alex were supposed to be together and myself and Lillie were not—but there was a spark. The most spark I’d ever felt before in my life. And she must’ve felt it too, because she did kiss me back. But then there was Alex.
“What the fuck?” Lillie looked dumbstruck and I probably looked the same way.
“Alex--” Lillie started, but Alex cut her off.
“I know we aren’t together but I thought you wanted to be! You said you had feeling for me an hour ago for fuck’s sake! And you,” Alex turned to me, “How dare you come onto Lillie when you knew I liked her?” Alex’s face was red and his fists were clenched. Rian and Zack were standing staring at us from the mouth of the cave they had just emerged from.
“Alex, it wasn’t Jack’s fault.” Lillie said. She was trying to defend me. That was so cute.
“You came onto him, then?!” Alex’s rage grew even more.
“No, but--”
“Then it’s his fucking fault. You know what? I was totally stupid to think someone as fucking perfect as you could like me, Lillie. Of course you’d end up with Jack. Of course I would lose. I support you two, alright? I’m fine with you being together. It’s not your fault there’s a connection between you two. I thought there was a connection between us, Lillie, but I guess I’m the only one who felt it.” And with that, Alex dropped his putter and ball and left the minigolf place without finishing the game. A silent agreement led me, Rian, Zack, and Lillie to do the same. We put our putters and balls away (Lillie brought Alex’s) and we all hopped in my car in complete silence.
Alex’s POV
Lillie fucking McMahon—the girl I’d only just met—had already broken my fucking heart. I should’ve told her the truth in the car after the kiss—I thought I might be in love with her. But what if that had scared her off? If she was happy with Jack, so be it. I just thought I’d get the girl this time. The only girl I’d fallen for almost as hard as I’d fallen for Lillie was Caitlyn Price. We’d only been together for a week when she left me for Jack. But that time, Jack didn’t want anything to do with her so she’d come crawling back to me. She wasn’t a slut. Actually, she was a really cool girl. The entire band got along with her really well. It’d been almost two months since I’d seen her, but maybe at this point it wouldn’t hurt to give her a call…
Lillie’s POV
I wanted to be sick on the car ride home. I was sitting in the passenger’s seat, Jack was driving, and Zack and Rian were crammed in the back. I should’ve told Alex the truth in the car after the kiss—I thought I might be in love with him. But what if that had scared him off? I’m not aiming to sleep with the entire band, but Alex was sweet and funny while Jack was outgoing and unexpected. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted at the moment. I hadn’t been in many successful relationships before. While I was lost in thought, I suddenly felt a hand gently squeeze my leg. Jack was smiling at me regretfully from the driver’s seat.
“I care about you, Lillie. And I would love to be with you, but I don’t want you to do anything stupid.” Jack said quietly. I wondered if Zack and Rian were listening.
“What do you think I should do, then?” I asked Jack, my eyes watery.
“Do what feels right. Don’t over think it.” Jack smiled. I nodded. I knew what I needed to do. I needed to be with Alex. Alex and Jack were both perfect in my eyes, but Alex was perfect for me. He made me feel special and warm and I couldn’t explain the sensation of ecstasy I felt with Alex. Plus, he said he felt a connection. I felt it, too. I’m meant to be with Alex, and I’m ready to tell him as we pull into the driveway of Alex’s house. Jack hugs me for encouragement and I take a deep breath as I walk to the front door. I turn the doorknob and step inside and I’m greeted to the sound of moans and gasps and my jaw drops. Clothes are thrown over couches and two naked bodies are pressed together on the carpet—one familiar and one stranger. In the middle of the living room, Alex Gaskarth is fucking some brunette.
I hear the door close behind me. Jack, Rian, and Zack and all inside now, too, staring at the sex scene. When the door closes rather loudly, the sex noises stop. The brunette covers herself with a pillow from the couch and Alex does the same, gaping at us. He looks more embarrassed than anything.
“Um, guys, you know Caitlyn. Lillie, this is Caitlyn Price.”
