Work In Progress

"Mum before you get them moving furniture, Alex and I have news."

Alex's POV

Lily shook the small picture as we walked up the driveway. She paused to take a look at it. "You know I lied to the doctor, I can't see our baby."

"Lily!" I jokingly gasped as I took the picture from her and glanced down at it. Even though there was an arrow pointing to the baby, I couldn't figure what I was meant to be looking at either. "You-you lied to a doctor... I can't believe you!" I chuckled, which earned me a glare.

"I'm blind aren't I?" she smirked.

I shook my head and smiled. "Nah I lied too. It's really small right now so don't worry." I held her hand stepping into the house. "I'm sure the next one will be clearer."

"Hey lovebirds!" Sophie waved from the kitchen. Lily grabbed the picture from me and ran over. I followed to hear Sophie's giggle.

"Lily look," she placed her finger on it and glanced at Lily. "That little dot, circle weird thing is your child."

I leaned against the fridge, crossed my arms and smirked. The shocked look on Lily's face was priceless.

"How do you know that?"

"Lil, when there's a huge arrow pointing right at it, it's kinda obvious right?"

"I couldn't see it," I joined in.

Sophie laughed and ran over showing it to me. "There, there it is."

I studied it to see a dot right near the arrow. "Ohhhh I saw that...thought it was like all the other dots going on."

"Well it's not, that's your baby! Guys seriously, it's small but it's pretty obvious."

"Sophie," Lily spoke up. "Why are you getting at us for this?"

She turned towards Lily and placed her hands on her hips. "Because it's my best friends baby. It's so special."

"Yea Lily! Listen to Sophie," I quickly winked at Lily.

Sophie suddenly grabbed her phone and grinned, "well, see ya later."

I walked over to Lily, pulled her into my arms and placed my lips on hers. She wrapped her arms around my waist. I deepened the kiss. We both smiled as we pulled away.

"We've got to tell your mother."

"Also Jack and Zach."

I grinned. "I think your mother comes first here."

"Yea, I'll phone her or shall we just go?"

"Let's go. I'll tell Jack and Zach to meet us there. Your mother needs them to move some shit."

Lily's expression lit up as she laughed.

Before I knew it Lily and I were stood outside Helen's house with Zach and Jack waiting for an answer to why they were actually here. I'd told them about moving stuff but Jack had figured out that, that wasn't it.

"Ok guys Helen doesn't really need you to move stuff."

Jack sighed. "Oh great! I'm gonna see Soph then."

He began to get in his car, I stopped him. "No, you're still coming inside. Lily and I have news J."

Jack tilted his head to the side. "J? I like that A."

We all walked up to Helen's door. Lily just walked in and shouted, "mum! I've brought handsome young men."

I smiled as Helen ran out of the kitchen. Her eyes widened as she saw them. She walked over and looked them up and down, especially Zach. "Lovely to meet you."

"Yes, ma'am it is," Jack spoke with a smile.

Helen giggled. "Did Alex tell you to say that?"

Jack shook his head. "No ma'am."

She grinned and turned to Zach. "You know, you're very quiet dear?"

He nodded. "Yes Helen, I think that talking without thinking isn't talking at all...it's lovely to meet you."

Helen swung round to Lily with wide eyes. "Seriously, these handsome young men are adorable, especially this one."

I smirked as she grabbed Zach and swung her arms around him.

I leaned towards Lily and whispered, oops, must have warned them about her. I winked, Lily smirked.

"Where's my hug ma'am?" Jack interrupted.

I smirked at Zach's instant look of relief as she pulled away. He walked over to me and elbowed me in the side. "Should have warned me..." He mumbled.

"No way, the look on your face was awesome." I chuckled, Zach just glared.

"Mum before you get them moving furniture, Alex and I have news."

Helen studied us and walked into the living room. We all followed her in. Jack sat down with a huge smile. Zach on the other hand was instructed...well more like forced to sit next to Helen. I joined Lily on the couch opposite. I opened my mouth just as Lily said it all for us.

"I'm having a baby. Well we are. I'm pregnant with Alex."

I watched Helen's eyes narrow as the other's lit up.

"Woah A, congrats!" Jack sprung to to his feet, sat next to Lily and kissed her cheek. Zach made his way over, Lily stood and found herself in his arms.

After getting congrats smiles from them I walked over to Helen. "Can we talk?" I smiled in hopes of her returning it but she didn't. "Helen please."

She got up and walked out. Jack gave me a look to go after her. I entered the kitchen to find Helen against the counter staring off into space. I joined her. "I know this is a shock Ma'am but please understand-"

"Alex I'm not ready to be a grandma," she spoke softly. "That means I'm old."

I ran my fingers through my hair. "So you're not mad at me and Lily for this?"

She giggled. "No Alex dear, why would I be when you've been so good to us? I'm so grateful."

I smiled. "Well Ma'am, your be a pretty cool grandma, that listens to my band All Time Low."

Helen smiled back. "That's true..."

"Ma-Helen, can I ask you something?"

She nodded.

"Umm...I haven't heard about Lily's dad."

"Oh..." She glanced down and back up taking a deep breath.

I was going to say that she didn't need to say anything as she opened her mouth.

"Alex dear...He doesn't care about us. We were great up until I found out I was pregnant. Lily wasn't planned. He started working late" She turned to face me. "Suspected that he was cheating, nope, just wanted to stay away..."

Helen walked over to look through the window at the garden and back at me. "I was 7 months things began to get better," she smiled a little. "He came home on time and started being a fantastic husband. He'd changed. However, when I brought Lily home, I found him packing up a suitcase. I tried to get answers, I got nothing but silence. He left. One day divorce papers were waiting for me with a note saying that he was sorry but he didn't want to be with me anymore and never wanted Lily to happen. I hate him." Helen spat the last bit out as tears ran down her cheeks.

I pulled her into my arms. "Shit...I'm sorry-"

"No, don't be sorry...you deserve to know. I guess I'm just terrified that's going to happen to Lily as well," she wiped her eyes.

"I wouldn't do that."

She glanced up and smiled. "I know Alex dear. I'm really grateful for all you've done."

"There you are."

We both turned to find Lily stood in the door way. Helen rushed over, pulled Lily into her arms and squeezed her tightly with a massive smile. "Well," she began as she let her daughter go. "I think congratulations are needed."

@Newyork_xo
I'm glad that you enjoyed this. I might think about another story as this one has been fun to write. Yes, poor Alex, it wasn't meant to end like that but with all the changes and other characters being added it just went in that direction. I know I've said this a lot already but thank you for your comments, I really appreciated getting them. :)
