Work In Progress

"Lily, Alex is very lucky to have you."

Lily's POV

I opened my eyes. Alex wasn't with me. I was just about to panic a little about where he was when I remembered we were on the tour bus, he can't be that far.

I took a deep breath as I sat up, the throbbing in my head was killing me. My eyes were sore. I carefully sat up as I heard someone making their way over. I hoped it was Alex but when I saw Zach, my eyes widened. I wasn't expecting him at all.
He was holding a glass of water and some a packet of pills.

"Hey, can I talk to you?" I nodded as he placed the water and pills down on the coffee table. "Alex has gone out with the others to get Matt. I stayed to see how you're doing. So how are you?"

Somehow I was all right considering I felt like death. "I'm ok... I've got a headache and my eyes are sore. Guessing Alex told you about wha-" I paused when he smiled.

"Nah, we heard you Lily."

I leaned forward. "Was I that loud?" I asked in a quieter tone.

"Yea."

"I'm sorry."

Zach shook his head, grabbed the glass and gave it to me. I took a sip.

"Don't be... My sister," His voice went quiet at the mention of his sister. It was like he didn't really want to bring her up. "got into a similar situation...It gets better."

I took another sip of water and smiled. "How's your sister?"

Zach stood up, he seemed to shut down again, which caused him to look at the floor. "Fine..."

I got up quickly, wishing I hadn't. The room spun a little which made me sit back down. "What's wrong?"

He looked up at me. "Nothing...it's ok. It's just I can't see her anymore...she hates me..."

"Sure she doesn't-"

"No, she does...I don't really want to talk about it. My fault for bringing her up."

I slowly got up, went over to him and swung my arms around him. "Sorry about that, Zach." I pulled away to him smiling at me.

"Lily, Alex is very lucky to have you," he said and left down the hall.

I grabbed the pills and took some, thinking what Zach had meant by what he'd just said. I shrugged and went downstairs.

"Hey Lil," Jack waved with a smile. I joined him in the little kitchen area. "How are ya?"

"Good...I think...I thought you were getting Matt."

He chuckled. "We have, the rest of the gang is just outside."

I scanned the bus and turned back to him. "Jack has Zach said anything about me?"

Jack's smile disappeared in to a confused stare. "Not really. Why?"

"Err...he told me that Alex was very lucky to have me."

"Well he is Lil." Jack smiled.

"Yea...I'm over thinking again."

"Didn't A, tell ya not to do that?"

I nodded.

"Look, Zach can be pretty quiet but talk to him about it. Sure it's nothing. He wouldn't dare take A's chick... He got a little jealous of me not long ago."

"Why?"

"A, really..." He paused, it looked like he was searching for the right word. "likes you. I can tell by the way he looks at ya. He'll be ready to tackle anyone to the ground if they treat ya the wrong way."

Suddenly some heavy footsteps caught my attention. The guy's eyes lit up as he made his way over. "You must be Lily. I'm Matt," he held out his hand to shake.

"Oh yes that's me. Nice to meet you."

"Same." He nodded and sat down. He took his bag off, unzipped it and pulled out a stack of paper.

I turned back to Jack. "Where's Alex?"

"Behind ya."

It took me a second to figure out, someone else had said that, not Jack. I swung round. Alex's cheeky smile made my heart flutter. "You're ok then?"

I smiled back. "I think so. I don't know for sure but I think it's going to get better from now on."

"What's getting better?" Matt piped up.

Alex tensed up a little. Jack gave me a questioning look, to see if we should bring it up.

"I-I get terrible migraines. I feel they're going to get better."

"Ok great," he smiled, picked up the pile of paper and walked further down the bus. "Guys I'll be in the back if you need me."

When I turned round I had two pairs of eyes giving me harsh stares. Jack's quickly softened as he smiled and said, "nice save." He winked and elbowed Alex in the side. "A, thought ya said Lily didn't lie. Kinda feisty, it's awesome." He chuckled to himself as he grabbed a beer from the fridge. Alex followed Jack.

"Dude, that's my girlfriend you're talking about."

"Dude, you're girlfriend is right here." My words made Alex immediately swing round and Jack chuckle even more. "A, you have to keep her."

Alex smirked and walked back to me. "I know she's here." He planted his lips on mine and pulled me closer.

"Seriously, get a room," Jack moaned. "It's hard to focus on drinking my beer with your PDA."

Alex pulled away and shot Jack a playful glare. "And it's hard to focus on loving my girl when you're moaning."

"Burrrnn!" Jack laughed as he stood up with his beer. "Well done A," he mumbled walking towards the back room.

I giggled which caused Alex to place his lips back to mine. He grabbed hold of my waist and pulled me closer, deepening our kiss. I shoved my arms around his neck, deepening our kiss even more. Alex gently pushed me against the counter and slipped each of his hands under my top. I expected them to wonder up like last time but he kept them still.

"Oh my god!"

Alex jumped away, leaving me face to face with Sophie's widened eyes. Her jaw dropped.

"Sophie! What are you doing here?" I asked straightening my top.

"It looks like I'm here watching you make out with Mr.Freakin"

"No. Seriously Soph, you're meant to be at home."

She smirked and took off her coat. "Oh relax. I drove here for Jack. Not staying long. You both can lock lips again. Where is he?"

"Sophie!"

She smiled and ran over to Jack. "We're upstairs!" Jack shouted.

Alex shook his head and smiled. "You want to?"

"What?"

Alex closed the gap again and wiped my hair out of my face. "Get our worst and make it better," he began. I stared at him in confusion. His eyes lit up for a second as he dived into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. He shoved it in my direction. "This is for you."

I took it and eyed it over. Why was he giving me a random folded bit of paper.

Alex must have caught my confusion as he chuckled. "Before you open it, it's got a message on the other side." He beamed and glanced down, waiting eagerly as I did what he said.

The message was a simple, 'To Lily.' I glanced up at Alex and back down.

"Go on, unfold it." His excitement filled the room.

I did, to see lyrics written on it. I caught sight of his huge smile.

"I wrote it for you. It's not much but-"

"No... It's- It's amazing. Thank you." I swung my arms around him, holding him tightly.

Alex pressed his lips to my forehead. "I'll have to sing it won't I?" I stared at his huge smile.

"What? There's music to it as well?"

He ran his fingers through his hair. "Well it's a song Lily." He chuckled again. "They normally have music behind the lyrics."

I decided to read them properly. Alex waited impatiently.

You there, with the big blue eyes. I'm lost, lost in you're blank stare.

The nightmares swallow you up. I know how much it hurts. Time. These things take time to heal, so grab my hand and I'll guide you out of this dark tunnel of horror.

When you smile. Light shines through those bright blue eyes. It's where I seem to find myself, more and more, these days. Lost, lost in the bright light.

So, grab those dark, horrifying images. Push. Push them away.

Keep on smiling and I'll help you get away, with the light from you're eyes
.

Afterwards I stepped out of his embrace. I wiped away the tears that escaped. "Alex, you shouldn't have done this. It's too much."

"I hope they're happy tears."

I smiled and nodded. "This is the sweetest thing, someone has ever done for me. I love it."

Alex leaned against the kitchen counter. "So get our worst and make it better," he repeated. "The worst, the nightmares. Make it better, simple, I'm here to write you awesome songs."

Notes

Another aww moment from Alex. I actually wrote the song lyrics myself, I tried to make it sound All Time Lowey haha.

I should give credit to All Time Low's Cinderblock Garden when Alex says "Get our worst and make it better."

@Newyork_xo
I'm glad that you enjoyed this. I might think about another story as this one has been fun to write. Yes, poor Alex, it wasn't meant to end like that but with all the changes and other characters being added it just went in that direction. I know I've said this a lot already but thank you for your comments, I really appreciated getting them. :)
