The Essex Affect

The Boy With Adorableness

Alex and I laid under the old oak tree for pretty much the rest of the school day, not really feeling like going to class. I learned a lot more about him, including that he has a brother named Tom back in England still, who should be coming to visit within the next couple of days, and he is really excited for me to meet him because I guess they are pretty damn close with each other.

I sat up, since I could hear the bell from the school ring, telling us the day was over. I got my to feet and held out my head to Alex to help him up as well, which I was glad he accepted. We walked out of the track field gate and thru the parking lot where other kids were hanging out next to their cars. I waved to pretty much everyone, as we passed by them, because I’m just that type of guy.

Alex and I reached my car, about to get in but we were stopped by a voice calling out to me. “Jack!” We both stopped and turned around to look at the person who was jogging over to us. Well, people. It was Austin and Alan. I sighed and waited for my two friends to reach us.

“What are you guys still doing here? Shouldn’t you be on your way home already?” I questioned them.

“Yeah, we should. But we wanted to say sorry to you guys for the way we acted at lunch. It was uncalled for.” Alan said as he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

“Yeah, what he said. We’re sorry. We didn’t mean to piss you off, and we didn’t mean to scare you off, Alex.” Austin spoke.

“You didn’t scare me off. I just had other things going on in my mind. It’s no big deal.” Alex answered as he shrugged it off like it didn’t mean anything.

“Are you sure?” Alex nodded to Austin with a small smile on his face. “Awesome. Well, we got to get home. See ya guys tomorrow morning?” I also answered with a nod and gave both of my friends a hug before they walked off to go find Alan’s car and drive back to their house. You wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at them, but they were brothers. Well, not real brothers. They are step-brothers, but they were best friends before Austin’s Dad and Alan’s Mom started hooking up. Then they got married, and Austin and Alan were more than excited to live together in the same house.Which is the main reason I don’t go over to their house that much. I can deal with them at school, but they are both so hyper-active outside of school and it’s way too much for me.

“We have that project done and finished and we have to perform it in a couple of days for the class. But until then, how about we just hang out? We can go and chill at my house. I mean, if you want that is.” I said to the colorful haired boy in the seat next to me as I drove out of the parking lot.

“Yeah, that would be fine. Are your parents going to be there?”

“Nope. I told ya how they work in these high-end, top notch companies. They are both out of town right now on business trips. So we would have the whole place to ourselves. But we can go to your house if you are not comfortable without adults around.”

“I’m nineteen, I’ll be fine without my Mum or Dad.” He answered with a giggle, which made me smile.

“Then it’s set. Let’s go to my place.” I turned left as I spoke, wanting to take the back roads and get back to my house a lot quicker than taking the main roads. Because let’s be honest, no one likes sitting at red lights for what seems like years and years, but is really about two minutes max, but still, it’s annoying as hell. “So why don’t you tell me a bit more about this brother of yours.”

“Well, as I said his name is Tom. He’s three years older than me, which is why our parents let him stay in England whilst we moved here to Baltimore. We don’t fight that often as normal siblings would, well, we did when we were younger. But now that we are older, we both realize how much we love each other and always have each others backs. We look a lot alike, and he’s pretty much my best friend. He was also the first one I told about my baby, and he said that I have his full support and whenever I need him all I have to do is call him and he will be on the next plane here.” Alex spoke about his brother in such a loving way, also with a huge smile on his face. I was more than happy to hear about Alex’s relationship with his brother, it made him have the most adorable smile that is so contagious, you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself from smiling with him.

“Well, here we are.” I said as I turned the wheel of my car and pulled into the driveway of my house. You could tell from the outside that it was a lot bigger than a normal family sized house, but smaller than a mansion. We both got out of the car once it was turned off and walked up to the door, where I put the key in the lock and opened it up, stepping inside and moving to the left so Alex could walk in behind me. Taking my key out of the keyhole and shutting the door behind us, I motioned my hand for Alex to follow me, and I led us to the kitchen, knowing that Alex would want something to eat. “Anything particular that you would want to eat?” I asked the boy as I set my backpack on the table and walked over to the fridge.

“Do you have any gherkins?” He questioned me. I turned around and looked at him with the most confused face ever. “Bloody hell, sorry, forgot I was in America. Shit, what do you call them? Pickles?” I chuckled and looked back in the fridge, pulling out a large jar of pickles.

“Is this what you are thinking of?”

“Yes! Gherkins!” He walked over to me and took the far from my hands, making me laugh at how excited he got over a pickle. “You see, I don’t really like gherkins that much, but ever since I have been pregnant, I have been craving them more than ever. Is that a pregnant thing? I have no clue, but I feel like I could eat this things forever.” I laughed again, but this time at his babbling.

“I don’t know, ask google. I have never been pregnant, and I don’t know what to tell you.” I admitted. I watched as he pulled a pickle out of the jar and put the lid back on before taking a bite, closing his eyes and savoring the flavor.

“Oh my gosh this is so good.” He groaned at the taste. I shook my head with another chuckle and grabbed the jar putting it back in the fridge. I grabbed a bottle of water out and took a drink before noticing Alex was done with his pickle.

“Now that you had your pickle, wanna go up to my room?” He nodded his head as he and I both picked our backpacks up again and started up the stairs, turning left and going into the first door on the right. Which behind the door was the only cool room in the whole house, my room of course. “Okay, go ahead and make yourself at home.” I smiled as I dropped my backpack onto the ground and flopped onto my queen sized bed, Alex following my motions, but not flopping, only sitting on the edge. “Come on, Lex. You can come up here and sit with me. We can watch a movie or something.” I spoke as I moved my body to where I was using the headboard to perch my back up.

He did as I said and sat next to me on my bed as I reached over to my bedside table to grabbed my xbox control and tv remote. I turned them both on and waited for them to load up before flipping thru my apps and finding Netflix. “What do ya want to watch?”

“Anything’s fine.” He answered. That was all I needed to hear before quickly searching for my favorite movie. Home Alone. I clicked on it and watched as it started up. “I have never really seen this movie before.” I looked at him with a shocked look and wide eyes.

“This is like the best movie ever! How could you never have seen it before?” I questioned him.

“I wasn’t really a movie person growing up. Still am not today, I would much rather read a book than watch the movie. But, some movies are better than the book, even though that is a one in a million chance.”

“Well, get ready to watch the best movie you will ever see in your life.” I commented before we both fell silent and watched the movie I have seen over five million times.

We were about halfway done with the movie and I couldn’t help but glance over to Alex every few minutes. The way his face looked when he was focused on something was adorable. He was adorable to be honest. I turned to look at him fully, catching his eyes and making him look at me as well. “Can I try something without you freaking out?” I questioned?

“Sure.” He said with a look of confusion on his face. He was about to speak again, but before he could I leaned over and pressed my lips to his plump, pink ones. It was a once in a lifetime chance and I wanted to take it, so I did. I just hope I didn't grow to regret it if he didn't kiss back.
