Love Notes and Long Distance

Go on and take a bow

Don't tell me your sorry cause you're not
Baby when I know you're only sorry you got caught

But you put on quite a show

Really had me going

but now it's time to go.

It was midday on Friday and I was in Denton to surprise Jack. I really wanted to see him and I just couldn't wait for break, anyway, it was Halloween weekend and I didn't need to be back until Tuesday which I had no classes on anyway. I was sitting in an Uber as they were driving to the campus, I was nervous to say the least. Not because of seeing Jack, in fact that was keeping me grounded, I was worried that his friends wouldn't like me or something along those lines.

"So why you going to the college," the driver asked.

"I'm visiting my fiancee," I responded.

"She must be a lucky girl, you sound like a yankee so you must've come far."

"Well, I like that he's a lucky guy but I think I'm even luckier cause he's in my life."

"Ah, it's a guy. Ain't you kind of young to be engaged son? You look like you're in your early twenties."

"I'm still nineteen sir."

"Oh, so young love. Hope it lasts."

I smiled at the man and paid him before taking my bag with me to the dorm that I remember Jack said he lived in. It was a small campus, well smaller than mine so that doesn't really say too much now does it? They had a smaller amount of students than my school so it made a lot more sense.

"Yo, you need in," a guy asked who was walking up to the door.

"Uh, yeah, I do, thanks," I answered, running to the door.

He held it open for me and let me go in before him. I stared around really unsure of where to go and it was pretty obvious. The guy who let me in was just staring at me, confusion drawn on his face as well as mine.

"Whatcha lookin' for," he asked.

"Do you know where Jack Barakat is? I'm here to see him," I said.

"Yeah, he's down the hall from me."

I followed him, noting his kindness to a complete stranger.

"So you know Barakat," he asked.

"Yeah, we go way back. I assume you know him," I responded.

"It's hard to not know him. He's an interesting kid."

"Uh oh, interesting good or bad?"

"Well, he might not be having sex with someone when you get there."

"That doesn't sound like the Jack I knew."

"College changes people you know."

I started twisting the engagement ring that was on my left hand. This guy, as nice as he seemed, had to be lying. Jack would never cheat on me, he would never do anything to hurt me. He just wouldn't do that to me. He wasn't that kind of person, I refused to believe it.

"Well here's his door, have a good weekend," he told me, leaving me in front of the door.

I knocked on it carefully, my curiosity having me put my ear up to the door. I heard a lot of rustling and someone running to the door. I took a step back so it didn't look like I was waiting for anything. A short brunette boy stood in the doorway with no shirt on and his hair really messed up. I smiled at him and he smiled back, still breathing deeply.

"How can I help you," he tried not to pant.

"Um, I'm Alex, is Jack here," I asked.

"Yes, he is."

He stood out of the way and let me in, why was there anger in his voice as he said that to me? Why would he be angry about me coming here? I'd never met this kid there was no way that I had done something that I shouldn't have to him. Why was I even trying to understand people, I never did. No one seemed to make any sense anymore.

"Hey Jay," I smiled to my fiancee who was sitting in bed, a blanket covering him.

"Oh, uh, hey Lex," He stuttered.

"Why are you stuttering, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, I just wasn't expecting you is all. I see you met Vic."

"Oh that's Vic."

The door slammed as the brunette left the room leaving only me and my raven haired fiancee. Something about this entire thing just seemed quite odd. Neither boy was fully dressed, both of them had messed up hair and I wasn't sure Jack even had anything on underneath the blanket. Was what that guy said true about my fiancee? Everything was just connecting to that path and I didn't want to believe it. There was only one way to find out what was true.

"Jack, stand up," I said.

"What why," he argued.

"Just fucking stand up!"

"Why?"

"Cause I heard that you were cheating on me. Because none of this seems right. Because I'm certain that you and Vic were fucking because I wasn't supposed to be here today. Because if you're naked under that blanket then I know I'm right."

"I'm so sorry Lex. I didn't mean to, I mean, I meant to end it. This wasn't supposed to get to this point. I, just, I'm an idiot and it won't happen again."

I dropped the bag from my arm. I sat on his floor, I loved him, more than anything. It hurt to hear him say that. I had wanted it to be a lie more than anything. What's even worse is that I had to stay here until Monday afternoon when my flight was going to leave, I already had the return ticket and everything. It physically hurt to have him say that to me.

"Lex, please, I never meant-" he started.

"If you never meant to do it then you wouldn't have! What the fuck was I to you? What was I to you," I choked out.

"You were my everything."

"Obviously I fucking wasn't. Tell Vic I'm out of the picture now. The engagement, the wedding, it's off. I can't do it Jay, I just can't. I can't give you another chance. I'm glad I know now that I mean nothing to you, before I waste anymore time."

"Please Alex, I love you."

"No you don't."

I picked my bag off the floor and walked from the room, slamming the door behind me. I left the dorm building before walking down the road a little ways to the nearest hotel. I paid for the room with my credit card, texting my mom about the situation so she was a little prepared. I collected the key card and went to my room. I threw the bag on the floor somewhere and slid, my back still against the door. That's when the tears came. Now that they were coming they just wouldn't stop. I loved him and I truly thought that he loved me too. Sometimes you're just wrong and sometimes you have to find these things out in the worst ways. I picked up my phone, not knowing what else to do and dialed Rian's number.

On the third ring I heard his voice, "Lex, what's up?"

"He-he cheated on me," I cried.

"What?"

"With his roommate, he cheated on me. I don't know what to do."

"Well, you're going to go to the party tomorrow like you planned and you're gonna find someone who's gonna treat you right."

"Rian, I love him."

"I know you do."

Notes

And have some feels. So, I'm just gonna update whenever I have time, (I have three instruments and voice to practice and about twenty songs combined as well as midterms coming up so I'm a little busy). I'm also working a lot with my band so I'm trying to keep everything on some sort of schedule. I've also had writer's block to the extreme which also means I haven't wrote a new song in a few weeks and I really don't like that feeling. I've also started learning German which is something I've always wanted to learn so it's really awesome and I'm super happy and excited.

Drop a like and a rate if you enjoyed :)
