A Love Like War
Sweet Cherry Pie
I had been feeling a closer bond with Jack lately. I had been visiting him quite often, and soon, I became his babysitter for Miracle when he had work. I didn't mind, though. I loved that little girl to death. She reminded me so much of Jack. Her eyes were as brown as both Alex's and Jack's, and her cheeks were the chubbiest cheeks I had ever seen on a baby. She was such a princess, and I would always call her beautiful when I saw her; she deserved it. Back to my bond with Jack, though, I don't know. I just have been having these butterflies whenever I was around him. He would talk, and my organs, inside, would melt a little.
His features had always been attractive. He had the most cutest eyes, and I loved his hair. It was my favorite part about him. His hair always reminded people of a skunk, but it didn't to me. It reminded me of chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Then again, I can relate everything to food.
Today, I wanted to see if Jack was willing to go on a date with me. I know he had Miracle, so she was more than welcome to join us, but I wanted this to be more of a date than just a friend-x-friend hangout. I knew Alex was out of the picture, so I didn't have to worry about ruining anyone's relationship or anything. Phew.
Upon walking into the door, I saw Jack and Miracle sitting at the table eating breakfast. I passed Miracle and ruffled her locks before going over to grab a bite to eat. I was rushing to leave this morning because of course, I didn't get up to my alarm. When did I ever, though? I scooped up the remainder of the eggs from the pan and put them on my plate along with grabbing some of the wheat toast. I sat down next to Jack and asked when he got off. Once I heard when he would retreat from his occupation, I proceeded to ask him on the date. It was awkward at first, but he soon accepted the offer.
My stomach practically exploded when he accepted it; I was so happy. I wanted to make this a happy night for him since he didn't get many of those with Alex. I saw how torn he was with him, and sometimes, I just wanted to punch Alex in the face for what he put Jack through. Bastard.
I waved Jack goodbye before I turned to Miracle. She had oatmeal all over her face, and I couldn't help but laugh as she giggled at her messy self. "God, you're messier than you dad, Miracle. Here," I grabbed a wet napkin from the table, "lemme clean you up before we go to the park."
I ended up taking Jack and Miracle to a fast food joint since I really couldn't afford somewhere fancy. Plus, what the hell would a baby eat at some elegant restaurant? We finished our meals inside of the place before going back in the car to sit in the air for a bit. As we sat, Miracle passed out. She had a busy day. Her and I went to the park, to the ice cream parlor, and even to visit Jack at work. By the time dinner came around, she was already half out of it.
I looked over at Jack who was scrolling through posts on his phone. I gulped down the rock from my throat before whispering, "Jack?" He looked over at me and hummed. "Um, I want to tell you something, if you don't mind."
"Hit me."
"Well, I think you're a great guy. And... I really think you're attractive and smart. You're a great dad, too." Jack was smirking at me the entire time which of course, made me blush. Dammit. "W-What I'm trying to say is, Jack, I like you." Before I could wait for a response, I felt a pair of lips attach to mine. My eyes widened to see Jack kissing my lips. As soon as I realized it was him, I cupped his cheeks, pushing him closer, and kissed back.
