A Love Like War

It been a month since the whole Alex and me thing, and things were already starting to look up for me. I graduated from college last week, with a bachelor's degree, and I couldn’t be even more proud of myself. Matty bought his own company, and I was now the full owner of my own repair shop. Which means I was making much more money than before, which means a much better life for not only myself, but for my babygirl as well.
I had just woken up, and looked at the clock, 6:45am. Miracle should be awake in her crib by now. I grabbed my phone off my nightstand and saw I had a voicemail. I listened to it, and noted it was from Alex. He was asking when he could visit Miracle. I sent him a quick text saying that he could come by at anytime to see her, but he couldn’t go anywhere with her.
I wanted Alex’s visitations with her to be supervised, not because I didn’t trust him, because I didn’t want Miracle getting closer to him and her getting hurt when he left for months and months at times. I got up from my bed and put on a pair of sweatpants that were on my floor. I left my bedroom and went across the hall to Miracle’s room, opening the door and seeing her sitting up in her crib playing with her teddy bears. “Morning princess. You hungry?” I reached into the crib and pulled her out as she nodded her head.
We went down stairs, both of us rubbing the sleep out of our eyes as I made my way into the kitchen to fix us both some food. I had to be at work by 8am, and my good friend from college, Vic, should be over any minute to watch my babygirl. Zack got a girlfriend and has been spending most of his time at his new job, which I was glad he was getting a good place to work. Rian and Cass got engaged and moved in together, which made me super happy for them.
I finished making Miracle some oatmeal and me some eggs and toast just as I heard a knock on the door. “It’s open!” I shouted so he could hear me, as I sat Miracle’s food in front of her and sat down next to her and her high chair, and started eating my own food. I heard the front door open and close and the sounds of footsteps coming through the living room and into the kitchen, I looked over just as Vic entered the room. “Morning Vic. There is some food for you on the stove.” I smiled at him.
“Thanks Jack. I was running late today so I didn’t get the chance to eat.” He walked over to Miracle and kissed her cheek. “How is the beautiful princess doing today?” He was so good with her, which was the main reason he was the babysitter for her. Miracle giggled and continued to eat her food. Vic walked over to the stove and got himself some eggs and toast as well, before taking a seat next to me. “When do you get off work today?”
“I get off at 5. which means I should be back no later than 5:30.” I said as I took a sip of my milk.
“Alright. Well, when you get home, would you and Miracle like to go out and do something with me?” I looked over at him with a eyebrow raised.
“As in a date? But with my child with us?” I questioned him. He looked away from me and down to his plate.
“I mean, uh, it can just be a friend thing if you-” I cut him off.
“I would love to.” I smiled at him when the smiled on his face showed. I chuckled and looked at my phone to see the time, 7:15. I quickly took one more bite of my food before getting up from my seat, about to take my plate but was stopped by Vic.
“I’ll take care of it, you go to work.” He chuckled. I nodded my head and bent down to place a kiss on my babygirl.
“Daddy’s off to work now. Love you sweet heart, be good for Vic, okay?” I said. She nodded her head and smiled at me. I placed another kiss on her and then turned around, only to be met by Vic standing there with my coffee in his hand. “Thanks Vic. I’ll see you guys later.”
