A Love Like War

Pomp and Circumstance

I stood in front of the mirror in the boy's locker room. Tonight was the night that I would finally be graduating high school. I had did it, and if it wasn't for Jack and Miracle, I wouldn't have been able to make it to this milestone. I adjusted the cap on my head once more before turning to all the rest of the graduates. I couldn't recognize any of them to be honest. Only a few of them I recognized like Austin, who was a junior when I was a senior the first time, and he played lacrosse with me. I walked over to him with a wide grin. "You excited man?"

"Duh! I mean, I finally get to leave this hell hole and move on to bigger things. I know you'll be moving on to become quite the amazing dad." Austin complimented. I couldn't help but blush.

"Thanks, man. I know Jack and her are out there, along with my folks, and I am just so happy to be doing this. I never thought I'd be able to."

"You pushed yourself to strive, and you succeeded. You did great man."

"Alright, gents," called the principal of the school, Mr. Radke, "time to go out there and shine!"

We all marched our ways out there into our seats while the band played Pomp and Circumstance. It lasted for about 15 minutes since there was a shit ton of us. Once everyone got out into their seats, they began the ceremony. Speech after speech, song after song, we finally were giving out diplomas. Of course, I was in the back row, so I had to wait until at least 200 others went up before I could receive mine.

As they called out the people one by one, I looked over at the stands to see if I could find Jack and Miracle. Sure enough, I found them with my glowing parents. I smiled widely at the sight. Miracle had her locks tied up in a bow along with wearing a Blink-182 t-shirt and leopard skirt. Somehow, my fiancee found her a Blink shirt. Leave it to him, you know?

Finally, after 20 minutes, my row got to rise and begin going to accept their diplomas. As one left, we all moved up. This continued on until I was finally leading what was left of the row. "Alexander William Gaskarth." called our Mr. Radke. There it was; I was going to accept my diploma. I waltzed up to my principal, and the rest of the administration, gave them a handshake, and then proceeded to accept my diploma. As I was walking passed the bleachers, I held up my diploma to my family. They all cheered,

"Go, Alex! You did it!" I laughed, and when I was returning to my seat, I heard Jack yell out of nowhere,

"That's my baby! I love you!" Damn, what a goof.

Once all the award were accepted, the closing remarks were said and, by the count of the three, the graduating class threw their caps in the air with cheers. The sky began to rain our caps, and officially, we were graduated.
