A Love Like War

Heart Attack

*one week later*

It had been one week since I ran off from Baltimore. I was actually enjoying my stay here in Washington D.C.; it was pretty awesome walking around and seeing the different political scenery. I would visit the monuments and statues almost everyday, and when I did, I would feel a sense of calmness. I had been volunteering at a pet store, and they were paying me about 100 dollars each time I did. That money was enough to pay for my motel room along with provide me with some food.

I was currently sitting in my motel room with chips at my side. I was watching the television since I didn't and couldn't use my phone to play games or use social media. If anyone knew where I was, I would yanked back home which was what I didn't want. As I watched my cartoon, it was cut off by a breaking news story. I shot up to protest to the unresponsive T.V. when my eyes widened. The title of the story was: MISSING BALTIMORE TEEN. I slumped back, hoping to God it wasn't about me. The woman began telling the story.

"One week ago, 18 year old Alexander William Gaskarth was reported missing. His case was originally a runaway case; however, now, the authorities are treating this as an abduction. He has been gone for one week, and no one has been contacted from Alexander. He is a 17 year old male, dirty blonde hair, brown eyes, about 5'5, and weighs about 120 pounds. If you have any whereabouts as to where this individual is, please contact the Baltimore PD." She proceeded to give the Baltimore PD's phone number as long as FAX number. I couldn't believe this was happening. I was on the news, and they thought I was abducted for how long I was gone. This was unbelievable.

I was about to shut off the T.V. when I heard a familiar voice on there. Oh my God, it was Jack. I looked, and what I saw broke my heart. Jack was holding onto Miracle for dear life, tears down his cheeks, as he was interviewed by the police about my disappearance. "Sir," spoke the reporter, "how has this experience made you feel?"

"I feel so lost without him him here. He has a family here, and he needed to be brought back. I need my fiancee to be found. His daughter needs him; she can't live on without both of her fathers here." The reporter went on to ask Jack to describe my personality and shit. I sat back and clutched my knees to my chest. "He... he is a sunny person. He is so protective over the people he loves. Alex is the most caring and loving person I have ever met. He is the greatest athlete here in Baltimore, as well. He doesn't deserve to be out there all alone being treated like God knows how. He deserves to be home with his daughter and friends."

I had to shut off the T.V. or else I would cry myself to death. I couldn't believe what I had done to them; I was worrying everyone sick! I was ruining my family's hearts, and I must had made Zack feel like a sore thumb because technically, I wouldn't have been out here if it wasn't for him saying what he did. I pulled myself under the covers to weep and shake in pain. I was contemplating so hard to if I should return home or just stay here until someone, miraculously, found me.

*Zack's POV*

Jack and I had barely spoken over the past week. I guess he didn't really want to speak to me because of what I had said to Alex. It was understandable, but God, was it difficult to not talk to him. That night, we invited Rian and Cass over for dinner. We were all going to have pizza together and talk some stuff out -- mostly about Lex.

We all sat in the living room in what looked like a circle with the pizza in the center. Jack was sitting directly across the pizza while Rian was as well. Cass and I filled the round ends of this so-called circle. "We need to find my boyfriend," Jack sighed as he bounced Miracle on his knee, "he could be dying out there. You know he doesn't do heat well; he'll get so sick!"

"We're trying the best we can, bro. The authorities, too." Rian inputted. Cass nodded, holding onto his bicep.

"Maybe we should start looking around other areas. I don't think if Alex wanted to runaway from everyone that he'd go somewhere in Baltimore. He probably went somewhere else." Cass spoke up. Jack's eyes widened, pointing at Cass.

"You're right! He could be anywhere!" He stood up and walked over to his keys and coat.

"Jack, what the hell are you doing?" I asked.

"I'm going to drive over to Washington D.C.. Yeah, it's a stretch, but he could be anywhere, right? I want to try there." Without even letting me stop him, Jack pushed aside and left the house with his daughter on his side. I slumped back in my seat with hands on my head.

"What, Zack?" Cass spat. I could hear the anger in her voice.

"This is just so annoying and stressful." That was wrong of me to say because Cass flipped.

"This is annoying and stressful to you!? Zack, our friend could be dead out there! This would be stressful on people who actually cared about him like Rian, Jack, Miracle, and I! What you said to him is the reason why he upped and left! You hurt him so much to just run away from his family! Don't you dare say this is stressful and annoying to you, Zack!" Rian pulled her down and shushed her to calm down. I crossed my arms, staring at the floor.
