A Love Like War

Light It Up

My visit to my parents was a great time. It was a time to be out and relax with my little girl by my side. Yeah, I loved being around Jack, but some time away from Jack was definitely needed. I got to stay in my old room with Miracle. They pulled out my old crib, from when I was a baby, and allowed me to use it for Miracle. She was a tad too small for it, but she still had such a peaceful sleep in it. She actually didn't fuss; thank God. I needed a good sleep for a night. I knew every night wouldn't be like that, so I cherished it for as long as I could.

The following morning, I had breakfast with my parents and Miracle. She had her formula while my mom made me French Toast. She was an amazing cook, so I know I didn't get my cooking skills from them. I had lunch and dinner with them before I returned back home. As I drove home, I would stop at the side of the rode every five seconds to check up on Miracle. Thankfully, every time I checked her, she was just fine. That's why it took me an hour to come home instead of the usual fifteen minutes.

I pulled her out of the car and walked up to the door. I heard music playing inside and the giggling of girls and guys. Was Jack seriously throwing a party, without me, while I was gone? I growled, wanting nothing more than to murder him. I threw myself inside and stopped dead in my tracks. There was a dozen people in here, dressed all in formal attire. In the center of the room was Jack with a smile on his face and his hands cupped in front of his gut. I clutched onto Miracle with widened, confused eyes. "W-What's going on?" I asked. Jack stepped forward.

"Hello, baby. Welcome home."

"Thank you. But, uh, that doesn't explain what is going on." Jack stepped forward and put a hand on my shoulder. He kissed my head and whispered to me,

"Gimme Miracle and go upstairs. Everything you need to know is up there." Without another word, he took my baby from me and pointed me to the stairs. I nodded hesitantly and jogged upstairs. Upon entering our room, I saw a tux spread out on the bed. I walked over to also see a note attached to it. It read:

Alex,

Welcome to what we would like to call, The Punk Ass Prom. You couldn't go to prom at school, so we wanted to bring it here for you. And, of course, Miracle is more than welcome to join us in the celebration. Put on this tux, and meet us downstairs for a night you'll never forget.

Jack xoxo

I had tears filming my eyes. I felt my heart throbbing; he did all this for me because I didn't get to go to prom. I put on the tux as fast as I could before running downstairs to see Jack. I saw his face light up like a Christmas tree. I could even see that, in the time I was up there, Jack put Miracle is a dress that had ruffles and flowers on it. I walked over to her and Jack and hugged them tightly. "This is the sweetest thing I have ever seen you do for me, Jack." I whimpered. Jack kissed me lovingly.

"You deserve this, okay? You deserve to have the prom you always wanted." I slowly began to cry at his words. I mouthed a 'thank you' to him before I kissed his lips once again. Everyone clapped their hands before Zack shouted,

"Let's get this party started!" With that, we began to dance around the room with the music playing. I, on the other hand, pulled myself to the side to care to Miracle. I held her to my chest and rested my head upon her's. I wasn't a dancer, and honestly, I rather be with her knowing she's okay rather dancing like a lunatic. I just watched Jack have a ball; that was enough fun for me.

I remained there for most of the night. It didn't really seem like Jack acknowledged it, for he was too busy dancing and singing along with everyone else. Instead of just sitting there like a sour puss, I decided to sing a little song to Miracle. I picked a happy song, one I knew wouldn't be too sad for Miracle.

This city is so pretty
Under moonlit skies we'll be hanging like a cigarette
So stunning start runnin'
Tonight's like a knife would you cut me with your kiss?
I bleed, red lips you're unbelievable
Can't miss this chance to take you, out
Here's my invitation
Hello Brooklyn, Hey LA
Take the streets all night 'cause we sleep all day
When the world comes crashing down who's ready to party?
Hello Brooklyn, Hey LA
Coast to coast I'll take you down in flames
Let the good times roll we can let go
Everybody knows there's a party at the end of the world

I continued to sing until the song ended. In the time I was singing, I didn't realize everyone heard me, turned off their music, and listened to me. Once I concluded the song, that's when it hit me. Everyone was staring at me with awe and bowling ball sized eyes. I gulped, completely and utterly embarrassed. "Oh, um, y-you heard me, didn't you?" Everyone nodded. Jack went over to Alex and cupped his cheeks with a wide smile.

"I've never heard you sing before, Alex."

"That's because I don't think I am that good, and I didn't want you, too."

"Alex, that was beautiful. You have such a talent, baby." I couldn't help but blush.

"Thank you," I said softly. Jack stood up and backed up a bit. I saw him reach behind to his pocket, and everyone in the room got smirks on his face. What the hell was going on now?

"Alex, look at me," I looked up at him with pinched brows.

What he did next made me want to scream.

Notes

so, what do you think is happening next?
