A Love Like War
Spark Of An Idea.
Jack
Two Months Later
Tomorrow was prom night, and Alex has been pretty upset all week, because he knows we won’t be able to go. It made me pretty upset myself that we would never be able to go, I mean, I did say we could just leave Miracle with her grandparents for one night, but Alex does online schooling now so there really isn’t any prom we would be able to go to.
I was currently sitting in our living room with Zack and Rian. Alex was over at his parents house with Miracle till tomorrow night, as they wanted some time with the both of them.
“Are you guys going to prom tomorrow?” I randomly asked both of them as the movie ended.
“Cass wants to go, but I don’t. Why would I go to prom when I can hang out with my friends?” Rian asked. I nodded my head in understanding.
“How about you Zack?”
“Too many people. I don’t think so. I mean, I could easily get a date tomorrow at school, but I don’t think I will be.” He commented. “Anyways, no more about the stupid dance. What about you Jack? Heard you went and got your GED, any plans for college?”
“I’m starting at the local college about five miles from here. I’ll be going there for about four hours a day, starting next week. Oh, and what’s even better about it, is I already got accepted on the lacrosse team.” I spoke.
“That’s awesome, dude. Congrats.” Rian smiled over to me.
“Thanks.” I chuckled.
“How’s parenthood been treating ya?” Zack asked.
“It’s amazing. Like, I don’t get much sleep anymore, but other than that everything perfect. Little Miracle Melody is perfect. Her health is doing so much better, and her lungs are almost fully formed. We had to make a few emergency runs to the hospital, but everything turned out fine.” That’s when my mind drifted back to how upset Alex has been about not being able to go to prom. “Hey guys. If I had an idea, would you go along with it?”
“All depends, does this idea involve getting hurt?” Rian asked. I chuckled and shook my head.
“No. No it does not. But, I was thinking. Alex is pretty upset about not being able to go to prom, what if we threw our own prom? Like, we can go out today and get all the stuff, have it set up before Alex and Miracle get back tomorrow night. You guys can bring your dates and everything. Hell invite everyone from the lacrosse team. That way it’s our friends, and not too many people. Plus, Alex won’t have to worry about Miracle since she will be here with us.” I beamed the idea out to my two best friends. I looked at both of their faces and they were smiling.
“I’ll get a date and tell her about it tomorrow at school.” Zack said.
“I’ll tell Cass about it. I’m sure she will be more than glad to come to it.” Rian spoke. I smiled at my friends and stood up.
“Then let’s get to the store and start planning prom.” I said with the most excited tone I could. I really hoped Alex would like this.
