The Fire in my Heart
Surprise in the Morning
When the water is ready, he steps in and attempts to scrub his skin ‘til it’s raw. He absolutely cannot believe that he slept with that poor excuse for an individual. Well, at least his ass doesn’t hurt, so it’s not as bad as it could have been the night before. Devon turns the water off when he feels as clean as he can without rubbing all of his skin off. He turns the water off and gets up out before putting his clothes on and drying his hair with a towel, so it’s only damp.
Devon leaves the towel around his neck as he walks back into his room. The lanky man in his bead is slowly starting to wake up. He sits up and stretches and swears under his breath. His hands go to his eyes and stay where they are. Devon is about to ask what the hell he’s doing, but he doesn’t get to because the man with the huge nose answers his question.
“I slept with my contacts on,” he murmurs. “Do you have something I can put them in, and can you hand me my jacket wherever it is? I think I put my glasses in there.”
Devon really wants to just tell him to get the fuck out of his apartment, but he can’t do that to someone that can’t see at the moment. Of course, he definitely will when he gets his glasses on. “Yeah. Sure.”
The shorter man goes into the bathroom and grabs a contact case and the glasses case that was in the jacket that had been thrown in the living room last night. He goes back into the bedroom and hands both of them to the other man, who starts to take his contacts out. Once he has them out, he pulls his glasses out and puts them on. Devon really wants to say that he looks terrible in them, but he can’t lie to himself. This guy looks really nice in them, cute to be exact. Too bad he’s really fucking annoying.
“Thanks,” the lanky man says. “I didn’t think you’d have a case for my contacts. You wear glasses.”
“I just never wear my contact. My brother says that I look better in my glasses.” Reality dawns on him. “Shit!”
“What?”
“I never picked up my brother yesterday. Fuck! My car is still at the bar too. This is just perfect.” Devon grabs his phone out of his pants on the phone and texts.
“Who are you texting?”
“Marie. She’s the bartender.” Devon pauses to read the text. “She’s going to bring my car for me. She’s with her friend and my place is on the way, so she’ll drive my car and leave with her friend. Wait. Why the hell am I telling you this?”
“I don’t know, but I have to talk to you about something.”
“Well, it can wait can’t it. Hurry up and get dressed before they get here.”
Devon walks out of the room, and Jack gets out of the bed and starts to put his clothes on. Normally, Jack would just leave before he even fell asleep, but he was way too drunk the night before. The other thing is that unlike his friends with benefits that he’s had over the years, Devon is a guy.
Jack walks out of the room and grabs his jacket off of the couch. Devon refuses to look at him. He doesn’t even know the guy, but he’s already judged him. He’s the annoying guy that was sitting in his seat, and as far as Devon is concerned, that’s all he’s ever going to be. He really can’t wait for this guy to just get out of his life.
The lanky man is about to explain the situation, but he’s interrupted by a knock on the door. Devon goes over to it to find Marie standing there. She hands him his keys and starts walking out of the apartment. Jack quickly follows after him. He notices the sad look that Marie is giving him as he exits the room. He follows Devon down to his car and looks at him.
“I really have something to tell you,” Jack tries to tell Devon.
“Tell me in the car. I’m in a hurry. I’ll drop you off home if you want. You’re limping pretty bad.”
Jack hadn’t even realized that he had this worse pain in his ass ever. He’s fallen down stairs before on his butt, but that pain is nothing to what he’s going through. He can’t stand pain as well. Right when he gets in the car and sits down, the pain shoots up his spine, and he can’t help but whimper. Devon notices this and pulls out some pain killers that he keeps in his car just in case he has a headache when going into or leaving work.
“Here,” he says as he hands a couple to Jack. “This is all the kindness that you’re going to be getting from me.”
“Ok.”
Jack just barely swallows them dry. He can’t wait for them to kick in. They start driving off in the direction of the where Devon’s brother is. Jack is having a hard time trying to think of how to start this conversation especially when his own band is playing in the car. He finds himself finds himself softly singing along. Devon does his best to ignore it. The shorter man really wishes that he would hurry up and tell him what so important, but he knows that you can’t always rush things. Since they’re at Rose’s place now, he decides to go ahead and start the conversation.
“I don’t remember much of last night and part of that just happens to be your name.” Truthfully, he doesn’t care what his name is, but it’s the only thing he could think of that could get this guy to start talking.
“Jack.”
“Devon.”
“Devon!” Daren yells as he runs up to the car with his backpack on and a magazine in hand. He gets in the backseat and buckles up. “Why didn’t you come back yesterday? Rose just kept telling me these things that I didn’t understand. Who’s this guy?”
“This is Jack.” Jack turns around and waves at him.
Daren’s eyes become wide. “Holy shit!”
“Watch your mouth!”
“Sorry, but that’s Jack from All Time Low!”
“What?”
Daren hands the magazine to his brother. On the cover is a picture of four guys with leather jackets and motorcycles. “Sara lent me this yesterday because I told her that I like All Time Low. They’re the guys on the cover.” Daren unbuckles and gets up so he’s over Devon’s shoulder. He flips through to the article about them. “That’s Jack. He has a weird last name. How do you say that?”
“Barakat,” Jack answers for Devon. “My name’s Jack Barakat, and that’s what I was going to tell you. I’m the guitarist of All Time Low.”
Of course something like this had to happen to Devon Cline. His life is full of this kind of stuff from why he has to take care of his brother to why he doesn’t want anyone to see his chest to this of course. Devon doesn’t know what to say, so he just pulls out of the driveway and has Daren buckle up again.
Of course something like this had to happen to him.
He really doesn’t have any luck.
Notes
Would you look at that... Devon's life is never going to be normal, isn't it?I'm the author, and I say... YEP!
I hope you guys like this story so far. I'm upset that this is a day late, but it was only one day, so it's not as bad as I've done before.
Anyway, thanks for reading!
@BringMeBarakat
That's very much too. I feel like that's why I've been neglecting my stories with this one that I came up with with the help of my stepsister. There are so many chapters planned out, and I already know what's happening after it. Most of the time, I know what it's leading up too, but I'm not good with fillers. Actually, I started a story last week, and I can't bring myself to finish chapter two . It's really annoying just like with one of my other stories. I have a lot planned for it, but I don't want to rush into it.
