Your POV
Jack and I got home after our date night. I paid the baby sitter, and right before she left, she told us that Ellie was fast asleep in her room.
Ellie was only a week old. Jack was so happy when he heard I was pregnant. I still remembered that damned smile on his face. He hugged me all day, whenever he got the chance. I stood up to get something to drink, and he’d pull me back down to hold me in his arms. I felt right there, like I belonged to him.
Jack wouldn’t leave my side the whole nine months I was pregnant. He was there when I had her, and he held my hand through it. We weren’t married yet, but we were both fine with that.
We fell asleep next to each other soon after we got home in our bed. He had his arms wrapped tightly around me, and I never wanted to leave.
I woke up around 7 in the morning, and I realized I didn’t get up once in the middle of the night, which was odd since I had a week-old baby in my house. I turned around to look at Jack and realized he wasn’t there either. I started to panic slightly. He was never up before I was.
I sat up in my bed and looked around the silent room. The curtains were drawn so that sunlight couldn’t seep through. I didn’t know anything about where Jack was or how the baby was doing. I didn’t really know what to do.
Instead of worry about it, I went to find my baby girl, and Jack as well. I first went to check in on Ellie. I got to her room, which was only about four feet across the hall from our bedroom.
I walked in the room and didn’t turn on the light in fear of waking her up. When I got to her crib, I noticed she wasn’t in there. Confused, I looked around, growing more worried as my thoughts raced in my mind. I saw a dark figure in the corner where our rocking chair was. My heart sped up considerably, and I thought for sure, this was how I die.
Instead of doing what I should’ve done, which was to get out of the room, I took a step closer. What I noticed first was the hair. The hair of my boyfriend. Black with a blonde part through it. It was messed up twisting around his head. I smiled in relief and went to wake him when I noticed what he was holding.
Ellie lay peacefully in his arms, fast asleep. I didn’t want to wake them, considering how adorable they looked. I knew I had to. I got closer to Jack’s face, and I couldn’t believe how beautiful he was. His dark eyelashes were curved around his eyes, and he was breathing steadily.
I started by carefully lifting Ellie out of his arms and placing her back into her crib. She didn’t wake up. I went towards Jack again, leaning in close to him. I wanted more than anything to kiss him, but I restrained myself.
I gently shook him by the shoulders and he moved a bit, but didn’t wake up. “Jack,” I whispered. He didn’t budge. “Jack, wake up, love.” Again nothing.
I poked his beautiful face and continued to until he started to move again. “Jack wake up, it’s morning and I’m hungry.”
He finally stirred awake and looked up at me. IK smiled at him, and he gave the most breathtaking smile I’ve ever seen from him.
“Good morning, beautiful,” he said in a sleepy raspy voice.
“Morning.” I smiled. “Food. I’m hungry.”
“So is she,” Jack replied, nodding his head toward Ellie.
“She’s asleep.”
“She’s awake. Go check.”
I went to look in her bed, and sure enough. she was up. I picked her up, holding her in my arms. She had Jack’s dark chocolate eyes, and the same happiness I saw in him was in her.
Jack smiled, and stood up, coming over to Ellie and me. He kissed my forehead and kissed Ellie’s as well. I giggled slightly, knowing that he would ace the whole father business.
I hugged Ellie close to my hip and started walking downstairs for breakfast. I was hungry. Jack followed, skipping almost.
When we got down to the kitchen, I handed Jack Ellie while I started to make waffles. He put Ellie in her high chair, and grabbed my waist from behind, kissing my neck as I made us waffles.
“She has your beautiful smile,” Jack whispered in my ear. I turned around to face him, and he was grinning, as he was standing over me, leaning close. I grabbed the back of his neck, and brought his lips to mine. We kissed for a bit until Ellie started making unhappy noises. She never really cried, just made strange noises.
“Come here baby girl,” I cooed to her. I picked her up and held her close to me. Jack went to tend to the waffles as I breastfed her. She suckled happily and when she was done, she started laughing.
Jack went to hold her, and she happily went up into her daddy’s arms. He grinned widely as he held her, bouncing her up and down as I finished the waffles.
I smiled at them and never felt so warm. Jack looked up at me, and not wanting to break the comfortable silence, he mouthed the words, I love you.
I love you too I mouthed back and he smiled at me, eyes and all. Ellie definitely had those happy eyes, and with her sitting in his lap, I could tell he was going to be a wonderful father.
