Blink Once.

Chapter Two.

Katrina

I just finished my morning shower and got dressed. I put on a pair of black skinny jeans and a Green Day sweater. I blow dried my hair and made my way downstairs. I went straight into the kitchen, where I knew my brother would be. He is always up earlier than I am, and always has our morning tea. I entered the kitchen and saw Dallas sitting at the table on his phone with a cup of tea in from of him.

“Morning, Dal.” I said.

“Morning, Kat. Tea is in the kettle.” He spoke.

“Thanks, I can really use some right now.” I said as I grabbed a cup out of the cabinet and grabbed the kettle off the stove and started pouring my tea in it. Once I filled the cup all the way up, I put the kettle back on the stove and took a sip of my tea. “Mm, amazing Dallas.”

“That’s because I am the best tea maker you know.” He said with a smirk as I took the seat next to him.

“Oh no, Mom was the best tea maker, you can’t beat her tea.” I said with a laugh.

“Well, I can’t deny that, she was a pretty good tea maker.” He replied, also laughing.

“So what time do we have to leave to get off class lists? And when do we start?”

“We have to leave in about fifteen minutes to go and get them, and we will be starting tomorrow.”

“Should we pack our backpacks just in case something happens?” I asked, him knowing I wasn’t talking about packing our bags with books or college stuff.

“Already did.” He said as he reached on the other side of the table and grabbed my purple backpack and handed it to me.

“What did you put in it?”

“I put the same thing in each bag. Two stakes, a water bottle filled with tea, and our vervain bracelets that we should really take out and put on.” Dallas spoke, reaching over and grabbing his bag from the other side of the table as well. I nodded my head in agreement and unzipped my bag, pulling out my vervain bracelet that we only wear when we leave the house. We both finished our cups of tea before going to the living room and putting on our shoes. “Ready to go?”

“Yeah, let’s get this over with. I just want to get back here and not have to look behind my back every second of the day.” I said as I opened the door and we walked out. I looked over to the yellow house as we walked to Dallas’ car and saw that it looked like no one was home, and I wasn’t getting a feeling in my gut to tell me they were.

“They home?” Dallas asked as we got in his car.

“Nope.” I said popping the ‘p’ sound.

“Good, let’s go get our class lists.” With those words, Dallas pulled out of our driveway and we drove the very short ride to the office on the campus that is about a five minute drive away from us. Yes, we could have walked, but we are just not in the mood for that kind of thing today. We arrived at the small campus office and got out of the car and grabbed our bags out of the back seat and walked to the door together. There was already a line when we got there, so we had to stand behind everyone and wait. I got a gut feeling as we were standing. I put my hand on Dallas’ arm, getting his attention, so he could see me put my other hand on my necklace. He nodded his head and made one of our hand signals, telling me to put a hand on one of my stakes in my bag. I did as told and unzipped my bag, just enough to be able to pull my stake out if needed. I got a chill that ran down my back, and I knew there was more than one of them. Right behind us. I nudged Dallas to get him to look at me, and I made a little head nod to tell him they were right behind us. He understood and nodded. The line started moving a bit and we stepped forward. I felt as if one of them was so close to touching me, I could feel the breathe on my neck. I moved to the side and turned around to get a look at them. The four boys from the yellow house. Alex and Jack, plus the other two. Jack was the one who was breathing on my neck.

“Hello again, Katrina.” Jack spoke lowly.

“Jack.” I said as I started into his eyes.

“Be nice, Jack.” The boy with the shaved head spoke. I looked over to him, as if asking his name with my eyes. “My name is Rian. This buff guy next to me is Zack, you already met Alex and Jack.”

“I’m Katrina. But you may call me Kat. This is my brother Dallas.” I spoke, pulling my hand out of my bag zipping it back up. I could tell just by the looks on Rian, Alex, and Zack’s faces that they won’t even think about doing anything in public.

“After we get our classes. Do you think we can go somewhere and talk? Get everything straightened out?” Alex asked.

“Ha. Like we would go anywhere with your kind.” Dallas spoke as he turned around.

“If you let us explain, you will understand that we are no harm to you.” Rian spoke. My eyes ended up landing on the buff guy, Zack, he had a look in his eyes that I disliked.

“What’s wrong with him?” I asked as I tilted my head.

“He is only about three years old, well, in our years at least. He is still trying to get used to being around huge groups of people, but we have him under control.” Rian spoke putting a hand on Zack’s shoulders.

“Next.” The woman at the desk called. I turned around and saw that Dallas and I were next.

“Come on, Dal.” I said. We walked up to the desk and said hello to the woman.

“Names please?” She asked.

“Dallas and Katrina James.” I spoke. She nodded her head and looked in the ‘J’ pile of names. She soon found our names and handed our lists to us.

“Thank you.” Dallas and I said at the same time. We turned around, only to become face-to-face with the boys again.

“Meet us outside, please?” Alex spoke.

“Fine. But when you get out there, you only have a minute to explain yourselfs, any time over that, and we will have stakes in your chests.” I whispered, not drawing any attention to us. Dallas and I glared at them for a minute then walked outside and stood by our car.

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Dallas asked.

“It’s not like they can over power us, Dal. They won’t do anything in public, I can tell. I can read three of them like a book, I can’t read anything about that Jack guy though.” I spoke.

“Good. I hate when people try and read me.” I heard a voice behind us. We turned around quickly and saw the four boys walking over to us. Me guessing that the voice belonged to Jack.

“It’s not safe for you to sneak up on hunters, boys.” I said as I crossed my arms over my chest.

“Our apologies.” Alex said.

“Your apologies will never be accepted.” Dallas spoke.

“Dallas, you seem to be the hard head out of you two. Let us talk to Katrina.” Jack shot at my brother.

“Don’t you dare talk to my brother that way.” I shot back at Jack. Gosh he was pissing me off.

“Kat, Dallas. I would just like to say that there is no reason to fear us-” Rian started, but I cut him off.

“We don’t fear you. We never will. You are the one’s that fear us. Like I said, the only one I can’t read is Jack. You three have fear written all over you.”

“As I was saying, well, trying to say. We don’t eat humans, we are strictly animal blood.” Rian continued.

“We don’t care what you eat. You won’t last even a month with us around.” Dallas spoke.

“We will be looking forward to adding you to our kill list.” I said with a small laugh as I turned around. Dallas turned around as well, about to open the car door till I was slammed against the car. Before anyone could think what was happening, Dallas had a stake pressed to the vampire's chest, I looked up and saw the eyes of Jack. They were dark, filled with pure evil, yet, they didn’t scare me. I put a smirk on my face and shook my head.

“Go ahead. Bite me. You already have a stake to your chest, one move and you're dead.” I said.

“Jack! What the hell, man! Get off of her!” Alex shouted.

“Go on. You know you want to taste my blood. Even if it is filled with vervain. You don’t care. Bite me.” I egged him on, tilting my neck to the side so he can get a better angel. I felt Jack lean forward a bit, I knew that just a little bit more pressure on the stake and he would be done for.

“Jack! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!” Rian shouted. I felt Jack’s lips onto my neck. I saw that Dallas was about to put more pressure on the stake, but I held my hand up to him, I wanted to see what Jack was doing. I felt him place a kiss on my neck, pulling away and leaving me very confused. Dallas pulled his stake back and placed it back in his bag.

“Like I said last night. I always win, and when I do. Well, I want you. I will get you.” Jack spoke as he looked into my eyes.

“Try all you want. It’s not going to happen.” I spoke. Jack pressed me back up to the car, lightly this time. I sent eyes to Dallas, to tell him that it’s okay. Jack didn’t scare me one bit.

“You spark my interest. Let’s go and get coffee tomorrow.” He said.

“Is a vampire really trying to hit on a hunter?” I asked, looking into his eyes.

“That’s right. I want to get to know the person I will be fighting with.”

“Fine. Tomorrow at noon.”

“Can’t wait.” He said with a smirk as he placed another kiss to my neck. “You smell really good.” He whispered into my ear as he pulled away and walked backwards back to his friends. I watched him with a glare, then I saw Rian slap the back of his head. “Asshole.” Jack shot at him.

“You could have been killed and we wouldn’t have been able to do anything about it!” Rian shouted.

“It got me a date, didn’t it?” Jack asked Rian with a smirk.

“Kat, are you sure you want to be alone with him?” Dallas whispered into my ear, not like it would do any good with how good their hearing is.

“First off Dallas, you should know by now that they can still hear you. Secondly, yes, I’m sure. It will be give a chance to know my prey. Find out what makes him tick. Find out his weaknesses. Find out his strengths.” I spoke in my normal toned voice. Making Jack let out a small laugh and shake his head.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, my love.” Jack spoke before turning around. His friends let out sighs and went with him. Dallas and I got in his car and we started to drive away.

“You will bring your bag with you?” Dallas asked, I could hear the worry in his voice.

“Yep. Don’t worry. I can handle him.” I said.

“Are you sure? I already lost Mom and Dad. I can’t lose you, too.” He said, his voice changing to sorrow. I put my hand on his arm.

“Trust me Dal. I’ll be fine. If anything happens, you will avenge me. I know you will.” I said.

“Damn right I will.” He replied with a chuckle. I giggled and we drove back to the house.
