Blink Once.

Chapter Three.

Katrina

I was just now turning 11:54am, and Jack should be here any minute to get me. To be honest, I couldn’t wait for Jack and my ‘date’ I wanted to know everything about him. Not in a way like ‘oh, you are so cute, I want to fall madly in love with you and get married and have little vampire children.’ No, I wanted to know everything that made him scared, made him happy, made him vulnerable. I must know these things if I will be hunting him down and killing him, and I plan on killing him. Dallas could kill the other three if he pleased, but I talked to him about this last night, Jack was mine. My kill. I slipped on my leather jacket as I heard a knock on the door. Time to get this show on the road. I walked over to the door and opened it up, to see Jack standing there. He had on a pair of black skinny jeans, and a dark red v-neck t-shirt. He even styled his hair, I have to admit, for a vampire, he was pretty good-looking, but that was not stopping me from ending his life the first chance I get. I glared at Jack and he sent me a smirk.

“Here’s your bag. Everything and extra are in it.” Dallas said walking up behind me and handed me my bag. I put a strap over my shoulder and sent Dallas a smile.

“Thanks Dal. I should be back within two hours.” I said, placing a small kiss on my brother’s cheek.

“Do you have your bracelet on? Your necklace? Your perfume?” He asked me.

“Bracelet, check. Necklace, check. Perfume, uncheck.” I spoke. I quickly unzipped my bag and grabbed out my vile on vervain perfume. I put a few squirts of it on my body and got a small idea in my head. I turned the vile so that it was facing Jack. Before he could react to what was happening, I squirted a few sprays on him. He grabbed his arm and took a few steps back as he showed his fangs and hissed. Dallas and I both let out small laughs. “Perfume, check.”

“Okay. Have fun, but not too much fun. But, fuck it. You know what I mean when I say fun. Good luck.” Dallas spoke, he placed a kiss on my cheek and I said good-bye and I walked out of the door, with Jack standing right in front of me. Dallas shutting the door behind me, but I knew he was watching from the window.

“Shall we go?” I asked with a smirk.

“You just had to spray me with that shit?” Jack asked as he still showed his fangs.

“Yep. I did. Here, go ahead, do what you have been wanting to do since you met me.” I spoke, tilting my head so that he could see my neck full on. In one quick movement, Jack had me pinned to my house door. He attached his lips to my neck, I knew he wasn’t going to bite, and it still didn’t scare me. He started sucking and placing kisses on my neck, no doubt leaving a mark. He pulled away after a minutes time and smirked at me.

“Next time you don’t want me touching you, make sure you spray the perfume on your neck. Other than that, have fun hiding that already forming love mark.”

“I wouldn’t call it a love mark.”

“Oh. But I would. Plus, there will be many more where those came from.”

“Whatever. Think what you think. Till then, are we going for this coffee or not? If not, I will gladly turn around and open this door back up and walk back inside.”

“We shall go.” He said, turning around and starting his walk back to my driveway to his car. I let out a small groan of annoyance and followed him. I arrived at his car, just as he got in the drivers seat. I opened the front passenger seat and got in next to him. “Go ahead and put a CD in, they are right there.” I did as told, and grabbed the little stack of CD’s and looked at them. Blink-182, Green Day, Pierce The Veil, Yellowcard, and a lot of other really good bands.

“Wow.” I spoke.

“What?” He asked as he pulled out of my driveway.

“You have a really good music taste, for a vampire that is.”

“Thank you. If you think those are good bands, then so do you. But can I ask you a question real quick?”

“If you must.” I spoke, as I slid in the Blink CD into the CD player, turning it down a bit when the music started so I could hear him.

“Why must you already say ‘for a vampire’?”

“Because that’s what you are. You’re evil, full of evil. All vampire's are. You are no different, even if you try and tell me that you are, I know you're not. And for that, I hate you, and I want you dead. You are a horrid thing that does horrid things to other humans. You kill. You murder. You have no mercy.”

“You know Kat, some of us didn’t chose to be a who we are.” He shot at me. When he spoke, I swear I saw hurt in his eyes for a second, but probably not.

“That doesn’t matter. You are what you are.”

“Whatever.” He muttered as we pulled into the parking lot of the coffee shop. I didn’t say anything back to him. He parked the car and we both got out of the car. He came over to my side pretty quickly, and tried to grab my hand as we walked to the door. I pulled my hand away from him and sent him a glare. I walked a bit faster, getting inside before him. I heard him mutter a few choice words under his breathe, which made me giggle to myself. I’m glad I made him mad. I walked to the middle of the coffee shop and went up to the counter, since we were the only ones who needed to get our coffee, everyone else that was already here is sitting at tables. I put a smile on my face as the clerk came over to the counter to take my order. I knew I couldn’t talk about vampires here, mostly because there might be more hunters around, and Jack was my kill. I had to act nice to him, at least here I did. I knew Jack could tell that I had to act nice in here, since I felt arms around my waist. He pulled himself closer to me and bent down so he could place his chin on my shoulder. I was about to do something till the clerk spoke.

“What will you two be having today?” She asked with a smile.

“Can I get a Caramel Ribbon Crunch Creme Frappuccino please?” I asked with a smile.

“Sure! And for you, sir?”

“One Java Chip Frappuccino, please.” Jack replied.

“Okay. The price will be $4.56.” She said with a smile. I went to pull out my wallet from my bag, but before I could, Jack had already placed the money on the counter. “Okay, here is your change. You two can wait right here and I’ll bring the coffees out in a couple of minutes.” She spoke, handing Jack his change and waiting away. I noticed Jack still had one arm around my waist, so me being me, and no one looking. I placed my vervain bracelet on his hand and he quickly pulled it away.

“Ow. Rude.” He muttered.

“Don’t touch me.” I muttered back to him. “Also, I can pay for my own stuff.”

“This is a date. Therefor I am paying.” He spoke as he rubbed his hand. I’m glad it hurt him.

“Awe, does little Jacky’s hand hurt?” I asked with a innocent smile.

“I was just trying to show my girlfriend the love she needs.” He said, putting a smile on his face.

“I am NOT-” I started but was interrupted.

“Here you two go. Enjoy and have a nice rest of the day.” The clerk said. I grabbed my coffee and sent her a thank you and walked over to a booth in the back of the shop, as I saw no one was around it. I also noticed Jack’s footsteps behind me, telling me that he was following me over to the table. We arrived at the table and Jack sat across from me.

“I am not your girlfriend.” Was the first thing I spoke.

“Not yet at least.” He said with a smile as he took a sip from his straw.

“Not ever.” I said glaring at him. “I’m a hunter. You are a vampire. You are my prey. My kill.” I spoke, keeping my voice down so no one but Jack could hear me.

“How about this. Give me this date, to prove to you that I am no threat to you or anyone else.” He spoke, I could see his face softening.

“If you would like. I will treat this as a real date, since it will most likely be the last one you will ever go on.”

“No talk of hunting. No talk of vampires. Nothing like that.”

“Fine.”

“Therefor you have to take off your bracelet and necklace.”

“Not happening.” I spoke, putting my hand on my necklace and rubbing it. I hated taking off my necklace, not just because it protected me, but because my Mother gave it to me.

“I can tell that you have a strong connection to the necklace. That’s fine. But at least take off the bracelet.”

“Why? So you can get a better chance to get to me?”

“No. I won’t touch you. I won’t lay a finger on you. I promise.”

“Why should I trust you?”

“If I wanted to kill you. I would have done it already.” He spoke. He does have a point, he could have killed me multiple times already. I guess I can trust him, for now at least. I set my coffee on the table and reached my other hand to my bracelet, removing it and putting it in my bag. I looked back up at Jack and saw he had a huge smile on his face. I have to admit, if he wasn’t what he was, I would actually think that there could be something between us.

“There.”

“Good! Thank you, that actually means a lot to me that you did that.” He replied. I looked into his eyes and I saw a little sparkle. “Now, can we talk about normal things now? Treat it as a real date?”

“Fine. But try anything and you will have a stake to your chest.”

“Agreed.” He said with a smile. “So, tell me a little bit about yourself.”

“Well, what do you want to know?”

“Everything. You tell me everything about you and I’ll tell you everything about me.”

“Okay. I think I can live with that.” I stated. “So, I’ll start off by saying my name is Katrina. I am the sister of Dallas, daughter of Philip and Cora. But you already knew those things. So, how about this. Simple things. My favorite color is purple, I am a pure hunter, I’m twenty-one years old, and my brother and I are on the run.”

“On the run?”

“Yes. One the run from someone.” I said. Should I really be telling him about this? Fuck it, why not. It’s not like I ever play by the rules anyways.

“Is someone out to get you two?” He asked, leaning on the table so he could be closer to me as he spoke quieter.

“Not someone. Something.

“One of my kind?”

“Yes.”

“Do you know the name?”

“Vald. Vald Harrison.” I spoke. When I said those words, I saw Jack’s face go pale. Even if he was pale to begin with, this was like scary pale. “Do you know him?”

“He’s the one that turned me into what I am.” He spoke softly.

“He’s the one who killed my parents.”

“We can protect you and Dallas.” He said suddenly.

“What?” I asked, now fully confused.

“Alex, Rian, Zack, and I. We can protect you two. I know it’s strange for vampire's to help the hunters. But we really mean no harm to you guys. We will do everything in our power to keep you two safe. Even if it means putting our lives in danger.”

“Jack-” He cut me off.

“It’s been said. Therefor it will be done. Please just trust me. We won’t hurt you guys. In fact, it any of my kind touch you or Dallas. I will let you kill me.” He said, looking me in the eyes. Should I really trust him on this? He’s one of them. But, from the look in his eyes, it tells me he is telling me the truth. I guess, I can at least trust him. For now. Fuck, Dallas is going to kill me himself.

“Okay.” I stated.

“Okay?”

“Okay as in yes, yes I will trust you. Only you. For now.” Once the words left my lips, he smiled. “Now, tell me about yourself.”

“Well, My name is Jack. Younger brother of May and Joe. Son of Joyce and Bassam. Lover of the color red. I’m twenty-five years old-” He started, but I cut him off.

“You are only twenty-five?” I asked confused. Normally vampire's are much, much older.

“Yes. I was turned when I was twenty.” He said. Telling me that he is only five in vamp years.

“Okay. That’s interesting, I guess.” I stated.

“Sure, I guess it is. How about we get vampire off of mind and continue this as our real date.” He said. I let out a small laugh and nodded my head. “Awesome.” He said with a smile.
We continued to talk for about a hour, then he had to take me back home, since I told Dallas I would be back by two. It I were to tell the truth, I would say that I actually had a lot of fun hanging out with Jack today. Which really surprised me. He was actually really nice, it was a side I haven’t seen of Jack. Normally he is so dark, and offensive. I like this side of him a lot better. We arrived at my house and we both got out of the car. I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder, as Jack walked with me to my door. I turned to face him as we reached it.

“I actually had a lot of fun today Jack, thank you.” I said.

“I had fun as well. Maybe we can do it again sometime?” He asked with a hopeful smile.

“I would love that.” I said, sending him a reassuring smile. He moved a bit closer to me and was leaning forward. I started to lean forward a bit as well. Wait, what am I doing? I can’t kiss a vampire. I quickly turned my head, making Jack move back. “Sorry.” I muttered.

“No, no. It’s fine. I understand. It’s a rule you have. No vampire's. Friends?”

“Uh...let me talk to Dallas about the whole thing first, okay?”

“Yeah. Of course. I’ll see ya later.” He said, sending me a small smile and walking away to go back to his car. I opened my front door and walked in, seeing Dallas laying on the couch. He looked up at me and smiled.

“Kill him?” He asked.

“No. But, can we talk?” I asked.

“Sure. Come sit.” He said, as he sat up and made room for me on the couch. I took off my shoes and set my bag down, making my way over to the couch to talk to him. It took about fifteen minutes to tell him about everyone Jack said to me. Mainly talking about the protection part. Dallas interrupted me a few times, by raising his voice at me for telling him some of the stuff. “So, he is really willing to help us?”

“Yes. I think we should give them a chance. We I talked about how evil vampire's were, I saw the look of hurt in his eyes. Vampire's never hurt.” I said, feeling a bit guilty about it now.

“Are you sure we can trust them?” Dallas asked.

“I’m going to say yes. Yes we can trust them. At least Jack, until we get to know the other three.”

“Well, I’m going to go take a shower. If you want, I’ll meet you over at there house so we can talk about everything. Or you can wait for me.”

“I’ll meet you over there. And Dallas, don’t bring your bag. Trust me.”

“Only because you said not to. I’ll trust you. I always do. I’ll meet with you in about twenty minutes.” He said, as he walked out of the living room and down the hallway. I walked over to the door and slipped on my shoes and walked out the door. I walked over to the light-yellow colored house and knocked one I got to the door. Alex opened the door, and he looked a bit surprised, as well as a bit scared.

“You can stop being scared.” I said as I walked past him and into the house.

“That is one thing I hate about human. Always able to come in peoples houses without being invited.” I heard Jack’s voice said. I looked to my right and saw Jack, Rian, and Zack sitting at the table, all looking at me.

“You will get used to it. Dallas is taking a shower and he will be over soon. We have a lot to talk about.” I stated as I walked over to the table.

“Sure thing. Come take a seat with us.” Rian said with a smile on his face. I walked next to Jack and was about to pull the chair open chair out, till he grabbed my hand and pulled me. I landed on his lap and he put his arms around my waist.

“Really?” I asked with annoyance.

“You walked into my house without an invite. You can deal with sitting on my lap.” He spoke as he placed his chin on my shoulder. I let out a groan and everyone let out little chuckles, making me roll my eyes. We started talking about somethings, then I heard a knock on the door. I knew it was Dallas. Zack jumped up from his seat and went over to the door. Once he opened the door, Dallas just walked in, just like I did.

“What is with humans and their manners?” Alex asked. I looked at Dallas and saw him eyeing Zack.

“You are one buff vampire.” He said. Not even fazed. I let out a small giggle and Dallas eyes turned to me. “And my vampire hunter sister is sitting on the lap of a vampire. This is going to take some getting used to? You're not dating are you?”

“No. He’s making me sit here.” I stated.

“Let me guess, you just walked in and he used something like ‘you just walked into my house, therefore you have to sit on my lap.’ line.”

“That is exactly what happened.” I said, letting out another laugh.

“Okay. Let’s get down to business. First off, I have one rule. Touch my sister in anyway that makes her uneasy, I will kill you all in a second, got it?” Dallas said, to all four of them, once he walked over to the table and sat down in the seat I was going to sit in.

“But what if I want to kiss her or something?” Jack asked, I noticed the smirk on his lips.

“That will not happen. Never will you have your lips on her. I will kill you.” Dallas growled.

“Well, at least we know who the hardhead twin is.” Alex muttered.

“I suggest you shut up.” Dallas said. I kicked his leg under the table. “Ow! Fuck! Don’t do that.”

“Be nice. This is their house. Not ours.” I growled at him.

“Fine.” He muttered.

“Now that that’s solved, let’s talk about Vlad.” Jack said.

Notes
