Chapter One.

Katrina

Hi, I’m Katrina, but everyone calls me Kat. I’m a 21 year old college student, who had just moved from England, over here to America with my twin brother, Dallas. My brother is older than me, but only by three minutes. He still calls himself my protector because he is older, which I really don’t understand. Dallas and I rented out a small house on campus for him and I. It was a three bedroom house. Everything is pretty small, but we don’t need much space for the two of us. Speaking of the devil, he just walked into the house after locking his car since we got all the boxes out.

“Here Kat. I fixed your vervain necklace.” He said holding it out to me. “Let’s just hope that, you know what, doesn’t happen again.” I held out my hand and took the necklace from him with a smile.

“Thanks Dal. I hope it doesn’t happen either, but if it does, we will be ready this time.” I replied to him as I put the necklace around my neck. I never go anywhere without my vervain, it’s too risky for that.

“Oh yes we will be. This time we don’t leave each others sights. Deal?” He asked as he held his hand out for me. I nodded my head and took his hand in mine, shaking it.

“Deal.” I replied. We let go of each others hands and walked into the kitchen together.

“Up for some tea?” Dallas asked me.

“Honey vervain?” I asked.

“Is there really any other kind we drink?” He asked with a laugh as he took the kettle and put it on the stove after adding water to it.

“Not really. So make me my tea pesent!” I said with a laugh. We continued talking for a few minutes till I heard a knock on the door. “I’ll get it. By the time I come back, there better be tea in my cup.”

“Yes ma’am!” Dallas said with a smile as I walked away and went to the living room to answer the door. I looked out the peephole and saw a guy with brown hair. I opened the door with a smile, but it soon went away when I got a gut feeling, that something about this person I don’t like.

“Hi! I’m Alex. Me and my friends are your neighbors, you will meet them tomorrow.” The guy spoke with a smile. I had this feeling, and I just know it’s right. I always had a feeling when they came around me. Even if they didn’t even arroch me, it was a talent I had that always told me when there was one around. “What’s your name?”

“My name is Katrina. But you may call me Kat.” I said, trying to act like I wasn’t onto his little secret.

“Well, Katrina, may I come in?” Alex asked with a smile. Oh no he doesn’t.

“No. No you may not come in.” I spoke, knowing that he couldn’t unless I gave him permission. His smile turned into a frown. I turned my head and shouted. “Dallas! Come here!”

“Who’s Dallas?” Alex asked as I turned back to him.

“Dallas is my twin brother. If you must know.” I said, getting a bit snappy. I was never one to take so kind to their type. Dallas came to my side, and he could sense something was wrong just by the way I looked at him.

“What’s up Kat?” Dallas asked. I grabbed ahold of my vervain necklace, and he saw. It was kinda out little hint to tell the other one was around, as we both had the necklaces. He nodded his head and turned to look at Alex. I looked over to Alex and saw he was looking at my necklace, looking like he was a bit scared.

“Is that a vervain necklace?” Alex asked, meeting my eyes.

“It sure is. Would you like to hold it?” I asked with knowing eyes.

“N-no t-thank you.” Alex stuttered. Which was very unusual, I have never met a vampire that stutters, or even gets frightened. He met my eyes again, and he knew I knew right away. “How did you know so quickly?”

“She has her ways.” Dallas shot at the brown-haired boy. I looked behind Dallas and saw he had picked up our wooden stake we sat on the table right next to the door. “What are you doing here?”

“I just came to welcome you guys to the neighborhood. M-my friends and I live next d-door.” Alex spoke. Dallas pulled out the stake from behind his back and Alex’s eyes went to it as Dallas held it in front of him. “How are you guys so prepared?”

“Just so happens that your new neighbors are hunters. We will be looking forward to getting to know you and your friends.” I said with a smirk. Alex’s eyes, again, went wide as he left our door step and ran, rather quickly, to the light-yellow colored house next to our house. I shut the door and locked it, not that he could get in anyways. “We can never get away from them.” I said with a groan.

“Which is why we need to go and drink our tea. Plus, thank you for calling me when he was here.” Dallas spoke as he set the stake down back on the table and we both started our short walk back to the kitchen, where the tea was already in cups. I grabbed my cup and took a huge gulp, as Dallas did the same. “How many do you think there is?”

“Now that I know for sure it wasn’t just my gut messing with me. I can tell that there is at least three of them. Might even be a fourth one.” I replied to my brother, letting my little talent show.

“Shouldn’t be that hard to take them down. Not like we haven’t taken down fourteen at one time.” He said with a chuckle.

“Well that’s because we were raised by the best hunters known to man.” I said with a smirk.

“That we were. Do you think we will be able to take their place when the council comes to get us? Now that Mom and Dad are gone, we are next in line for the leaders.”

“We will never be able to take their place. They were too good for that. But we will be ready when the time comes. Hopefully with a few more kills added to our lists.”

“I would love to add some more.” Dallas said with a smirk. I let out a little laugh, stopping when I got a gut feeling again. I put down my tea and walked over to the window and opened it up, as I felt Dallas’ eyes on me. “Something wrong?”

“There is one out there.” I muttered. “I know you are out there. Show yourself.” As soon as the words left my mouth, a man with black and blonde hair appeared right in front of me, a few centimeters from my face, him not being able to touch me because he can’t even put a finger in the house without me telling him he can.

“Katrina I’m guessing?” The guy asked.

“That would be me.” I spoke, as Dallas came to my side.

“And you must be Dallas.” He spoke. Dallas nodded his head, I could see the venom in his eyes. I got this feeling that something was different with this guy, he gave me a feeling that made me want to just take a stake to his chest, he gave me this feeling that he was much stronger than the other one that showed up. “I’m Jack. A friend of Alex, I also live next door.” He spoke lowly, as he looked me in the eyes. “Alex told us about you two. You frighten him.”

“That’s a good thing to hear. I’m glad we can do our jobs.” I said.

“Well, right now. You will do as I say, and let me into the house. That way I can take care of our little problem.” Jack spoke with a smirk. I let out a chuckle and shook my head.

“You can’t manipulate me. Don’t even try.” I said, continuing with me smirk. It was another thing I had control over, something that both Dallas and I got from our parents. Jack’s smirk fell from his face, tilting his head to the side as he let his eyes meet Dallas’.

“Let me in, Dallas.” He spoke.

“Not happening.” Dallas spoke.

“Only pure hunters have the power to block my power. May I ask how you are doing this?”

“Our parents were the head of hunters. People referred to them as the King and Queen of vampire hunters.” I spoke, not even saying their names, as most vampires know the names of the head hunters.

“You are the children of Philip and Cora?” He asked, tilting his head again, as he looked at me again.

“We sure are.” Dallas spoke before I could get anything out.

“Well, it will be nice battling with you. But you won’t win. I will. I always do.” Jack said, putting the smirk back on his face as he turned around. He stopped and turned to look at us again. “By the way, drinking vervain tea is a good trick. Oh, and Katrina. You look very lovely, and it was very nice to meet you.” When he finished talking he disappeared into the darkness outside. I shut the window and locked it.

“Well just great.” I groaned.

“What’s wrong?” Dallas asked.

“He’s stronger than the Alex guy. Much stronger. He will be hard to deal with.”

“He was also hitting on you.”

“Like I want a fucking vampire hitting on me.” I said as I rolled my eyes. Dallas chuckled and we both finished up our tea. “Let’s get to bed. We need to be well rested to keep our eyes out for them.”

“I agree. I’ll see you in the morning.” Dallas said as he walked down the hallway. I went into the living room to turn out the lights, I went over to the window, about to close the certain when I said four boys standing in the window of the yellow house next to us. I noticed one was Alex, and another was Jack. I tilted my head at them with a smirk, as I moved over and grabbed the stake on the table, going back to the window and holding it in front of me, making a jabbing motion to the chest. I watched as Jack showed his fangs, doing a motion that told me he hissed. I laughed at them and pulled the curtain closed. Tomorrow will be a fun day.
