Layla

“Layla, will you be my girlfriend?” Jack spoke.

It’s finally happening. I can be with the guy I have been crushing over for years now, the man I have felt something for forever. I looked up at him, because let’s be real, he towers over me. I looked into his eyes and nodded my head.

“Yes.” I whispered as I felt a smile come onto my face. I watched as his face lit up and he picked me up, bringing me into a spinning hug. I heard everyone around us cheering. This has to be the best birthday of my life. Jack put me down after a few minutes and I could get the smile off my face, I’m sure it was the same for Jack, since he was smiling like an idiot. An adorable idiot. I turned around and saw Jasper, he looked a bit upset. I walked over to him, best see what’s up. “Hey Jasper. You were going to ask me something before Jack came a took me away?”

“Oh, yeah...uh...it doesn’t matter. I’m happy for you guys.” He said, he put on a smile that I could tell was fake. “I got to get going. I’ll see ya at school. Again, happy birthday.” He spoke. I waved good-bye to him and he turned around and started walking away, in the direction I know he parked his car. I hope he’s okay, I have never really seen him act like that before. I was about to go after him till I felt arms snake their way around my waist. The person placed a kiss on my cheek, making me giggle. I turned around and met the huge, chocolate colored eyes of Jack. My boyfriend. Boyfriend, I could get used to that. I smiled at him and he placed a kiss on my nose, making me giggle again.

“Enjoying the party lil’ red?” He asked with a smirk.

“Are you always going to call me that?” I asked.

“Yep. Well, at least till you don’t have red hair anymore.”

“Okay. I’ll buy some hair dye after the party then. You think Lisa will take Kaitlin and I to the store?”

“I can take you.”

“No. If I’m going to dye my hair, I want the color to be a surprise to you.”

“Fine.” He spoke, as he picked me up and I swung my legs around his waist, a habit I tend to love. He held onto me as he walked and I had my arms around his neck, hiding my face in the crook of his neck.

“Jack.” I said.

“Hmm?” He hummed in response.

“You smell nice.” I said.

“Thank you.” He said with a chuckle. He stopped walking a few minutes later and let go of me so I could jump onto the ground. When I was back on the ground I turned around and saw Lisa, Alex, and Kaitlin standing there.

“Lisa, will you take Kaitlin and I to the store later? I want to get some hair dye.” I said looking at her with a smile.

“Sure sweetheart. I’ll take you guys right after the party, we can leave the boys here to clean and pack up.” She said returning my smile.

“Hey!” Alex and Jack said at the same time. Kaitlin and I let out small giggles.

“You two will get over it. Plus you will have Zack and Rian to help.” Lisa said to them. I heard Jack let out a sigh of annoyance, and protest. Time to play the girlfriend card.

“Please, Jacky?” I asked as I batted my eyelashes at him. He looked down at me and sent me a smile.

“Only for you.” He said as he put his arms around me.

“Nice girly!” Kaitlin said holding up her hand. I laughed and highfived her.

“Damn Jack, didn’t think my daughter would have you whipped so quickly.” Alex chuckled. Lisa hit his arm and glared at him.

“It’s not called being whipped, it’s called being a man.” Lisa said. “Now go start the burgers and hot dogs on the grill. Don’t forget to put Layla’s veggie burgers on.”

“Yes ma’am.” Alex said.

“Talk about being whipped.” Jack chuckled. I hit his arm and gave him a look. “Sorry.”

“Mhm.” I hummed. We stood there talking for a few more minutes till I realized how hot it was outside. “Jack, let’s go swimming.” I said with a smile.

“Okay. Let’s go.” He said, returning my smile. He took my hand in his and walked me back over to our little set up we have with our stuff. I was about to take my shirt off, because my bathing suit is on under my clothes, that’s when I noticed that I wasn’t wearing a long sleeve shirt. I have gotten so used to not wearing sleeves that I forgot all about my arms. Jack noticed I looked hesitant and stood in front of me. “What’s wrong?” He asked. I looked down at my arms and back up at him, he knew what I was thinking. “Yes, I’m sure everyone saw them. But no one is going to say anything about them, Layla. They all understand you had a hard past life. They don’t judge you, they all love you.” He said taking my hands in his.

“Are you sure they are not judging me?” I asked quietly.

“I’m positive, Lay.” He said with a smile as he bent down and placed a kiss on my forehead. He let go of my hands and I sighed and nodded my head in understanding. I watched as Jack took off his shirt, leaving him in only his swim-trunks. I unbuttoned my jean shorts and pulled them down. My shirt was a bit longer, so no one could really see my bottom half of my bathing suit, so really it looked like I didn’t have anything on down below. I put my hands on the hem of my shirt and pulled it over my head, tossing it to the ground right on top of my shorts. I looked back up and saw Jack was looking at me.

“What?” I asked.

“You look amazing.” He said still looking at me. I felt a blush creep onto my cheeks and I heard him let out a chuckle. He grabbed my hand again and brought me to the edge of the water. I put my foot in and quickly pulled it back out.

“Holy shit that’s cold!” I shouted. Jack laughed and pulled on my hand as he walked into the water. I managed to get him to let go of my hand before he got fully in the water, so he couldn’t drag me with him. He went straight under the water and came back out.

“Come on in Lay! It feels amazing!” He said with a smile on his face.

“No thanks! I change my mind! It’s too cold!” I shouted out to him. I watched as he swam back to the less deep water, so he could stand up. He started making his way out of the water and over to me. “I know what you are thinking. You best get that off your mind right this minute!” I spoke. I watched as his lips turned into a smirk and he started walking over to me quicker. I turned around and started running away. I turned around and saw Jack just got out of the water and started running after me. I squealed and ran over to the huge group of people that came for my party. People saw Jack chasing after me and laughed. I found Austin Carlile and hid behind me. “Be quiet. I’m not here.” I whispered to him. He chuckled and stood still as him and Kellin both hid me, which they didn’t do a very good job of.

“Layla. I know you are behind them.” I heard Jack’s voice.

“I don’t know what your talking about man, Layla’s not here.” Austin said, I could hear him trying to hold back his laughter.

“You guys do know that I can see her red hair sticking out from behind you right?” Jack asked, I could hear the smirk on his lips.

“Fuck.” I muttered to myself.

“I heard that Layla.” Jack said. I quickly turned around and started running again. I heard Jack running after me again.

“Alex!” I shouted. He turned away from the grill and looked at me. He looked behind me and saw Jack running as well. He chuckled and shook his head, then turned back to the grill. Some help he was. I ran pasted Alex and saw Oli, I was about to hid behind him till I was caught by someone. I looked at the person who had caught me and put their arms around me. Vic.

“Ha! Thanks Vic.” Jack said as he walked up to us.

“Vic! How could you do this to me?!” I whined.

“Because, you are going in the water.” Vic laughed. Jack laughed as well and Vic let go of me, just to have Jack pick me up and throw me over his shoulder. I tried my best to get away from him, mostly by kicking and screaming, but everyone just laughed. Not. Fair.

“Kaitlin! Lisa! Anyone! Please help me!” I shouted.

“I’m coming Layla!” I heard Kaitlin yell. I looked up and saw my best friend running after us. “Layla!”

“Kaitlin!”

“Oh no you two don’t.” Jack said as he started running as well. Before Kaitlin could get to us, Jack had us at the water and he threw me in. I kicked my feet and swam back to the top of the water and stood up.

“Asshole.” I spoke as I splashed water at him.

“A little water never killed anyone.” He said with a laugh. But, he was wrong about that. Many people die from drowning each and every year. Therefor, a little water did kill someone. But I wasn’t going to throw that out there and make everything awkward.
Jack and I ended up in a splash war not to long after, and many of the others joined us in the water.

“Kaitlin! You’re on my team! Help me!” I said as I looked over to my best friend who was talking to Jaime.

“On my way!” She said as she dove under the water and made her way over to me, leaving Jaime without saying anything, she was a good best friend. She reached me just in time, since Jack just splashed me with a huge arm-made wave. Kaitlin looked at me and nodded her head. We both started splashing him over and over again, not letting him even have a chance to splash back. Kaitlin and I stopped after a minute and highfived, I looked back over to where Jack was and saw he wasn’t there anymore. I looked around and still didn’t see him.

“Uh..Jack?” I called out. Just as his name left my lips he sprung up from the water right next to me, picked me up and threw me into the water. I came back to the surface of the water, only to have Jack right in my face with a smirk on his lips. “That was so unfair!”

“Who says I ever play fair?” He asked, keeping the smirk on his lips. I splashed him again and he just chuckled. He put his arms around me and brought me closer to him. “You’re beautiful. You know that right?”

“Nope. But I don’t care.” I said shrugging my shoulders.

“Well Layla, you are beautiful.” He said smiling. I smiled back at him and he lowered his head so it was level with mine. In one quick movement he placed his lips onto mine, me, kissing back not even a second later. I heard woos and whistles around us. We pulled away from the kiss and just smiled at each other. Our little moment was broken by us being hit by water. We looked over and saw that Alex had splashed us.

“Food is ready. Let’s go.” He said as he turned around and swam his way back to shore. Jack and I laughed, but swam to catch up with everyone else who was also getting out of the water. Once we were all out of the water, I was met by Chris and Brent.

“Hey guys. Enjoying the party?” I asked with a smile.

“Yeah! It’s amazing!” Brent said returning my smile.

“We came to say good-bye and wish you a happy birthday one last time. We have to head home, our parents want us home by 7pm.” Chris said. I nodded my head in understanding.

“Okay, well I’ll see you guys at school on Monday. Thanks so much for coming.” I said as I felt Jack place my towel over my shoulders and around me. I sent him a smile and he kissed my cheek.

“Okay, we’ll see you then. See ya, Lay-lay.” Chris said with a wave and smile as they started walking away.

“Bye guys!” I said after then.

“Layla! Get over here girl! You get your food first!” Alex shouted. Well, aren't I a special person today? I laughed at my thoughts and started walking over to everyone else, knowing Jack was following right behind me. We reached Alex and he already had me a plate made. Veggie burger and chips. Which was perfect for me. I smiled and said thank you. “You’re very welcome. You can have a beer if you want, since it’s your birthday.”

“No thanks. I think I’ll just stick to a bottle of water.” I said with a laugh. He nodded in understanding and I walked away and went over to mine and Jack’s stuff, since I noticed he brought it closer to everyone else, and we were set up in a circle with Andy, Kellin, Austin, Oli, and Kaitlin was in between Kellin and Andy. They all greeted me as I sat down.

“Nice of the birthday girl to finally join us.” Andy chuckled.

“What can I say? I was caught up in having so much fun.” I said with a laugh. Making everyone laugh as well. I took a chip off my plate and ate it as Jack sat down next to me, handing me a bottle of water. “Oh, thanks.” I said with a smile as I took it from him.
Everyone at the party finished eating about fifteen minutes later, and now we were all sitting in a huge circle, just talking and hanging out, until I heard a voice that got everyone to quit talking.

“That was a something special in the water, wasn’t it, Layla?” The voice said. My head shot up and I saw my brother standing there with his arms crossed over his chest. My eyes went wide and I felt Jack pull me closer to him and put his arms around me. “What? Not going to talk to me?”

“Who are you?” Kellin asked.

“I’m Layla’s brother.”

“Actually, Layla is my daughter now. So why don’t you run away you little rat.” Alex spoke looking over to him.

“Kaitlin? Is that you?” My brother asked, ignoring Alex and looking at Kaitlin.

“Fuck you. Don’t talk to me, you prick.” Kaitlin shot at him.

“Whoa. At least we know they both hate him.” Andy said with a laugh.

“Hate? Nah, Layla loves me. I’m her big brother.” He said with a laugh. “Right, Layla-loo?” Gosh I hated that nickname, and he knew it.

“Don’t. Fucking. Call. Me. That.” I growled.

“Ooo, someones got a temper on her now, doesn’t she?” I heard the voice of my Mother say as she walked up next to my brother, along side with her boyfriend Keith.

“Well, my day is ruined.” I muttered as I looked at the ground. I felt Jack put two fingers under my chin an lift my head back up. When my eyes met his, he placed his lips to mine, giving me a soft, sweet kiss. He pulled away and looked at me. “Okay, I take that back.” I said with a giggle.

“And just what the hell was that?!” Keith shouted.

“Me kissing my girlfriend. Back the fuck off.” Jack hissed at him.

“Girlfriend? Layla couldn’t get a boyfriend if she paid them all the money in the world. She’s too much of a slut-” My Mother said, but was cut off.

“Insult my daughter one more time and I swear I will rip your fucking hair out!” Lisa shouted as she stood up, Tay, Jenna, and Hayley standing up with her.

“Hunny, I gave birth to her. She’s my daughter.”

“By the sounds of it. You don’t even deserve to call yourself a Mother to her.” Tay shot at her.

“And you think this woman is any better than me?” She asked. That’s when I got to the end of my fuse. I pushed out of Jack’s grip and shot up to my feet.

“She is more of a Mother than you ever will be! Ever since the day I have met her, she treated me like family, treated me like I belonged! And what have you done?! You did nothing! You treated me like a piece of shit! Ever since my Father passed away, ever since the day you got together with the bitch you're standing next to! The main reason you treat me like a piece of shit is because your fucking boyfriend would rather rape your fucking child instead of fuck you!” I shouted. Then I realized what I just said. I just shouted it for everyone to hear. Something I wasn’t ready to talk about yet. I felt tears trail down my cheeks at the memory of all the nights.

“You piece of shit!” Alex shouted. I watched him jump up and run straight to Keith. He knocked him on the ground and started hitting him. I just stood there. I couldn’t go anything. I felt arms around me, and I noticed that Kaitlin was holding me. I broke down into a full on sob and Kaitlin let go of me, only to have her arms being replaced by Jack’s. He held onto and cooed sweet nothings into my ear. I heard shouting, but I didn’t listen to the words. I opened my eyes and saw nothing but black, due to the fact I had my face in Jack’s chest. I moved out of Jack’s grip a little bit, just so I could see what was going on behind him. I saw Rian and Zack were holding back a raged, kicking, and shouting Alex. I saw Keith was on the ground with a bloody face as he held his hands over it. I saw Lisa on the phone, knowing she was calling the police. I also noticed that everyone else was standing around, blocking my brother, Mother, and Keith if they tried to get away.

A few hours later, and everything was sorted out. My ex-family got taken to jail, because apparently Alex and Lisa had a restraining order filed on them. Everyone was still at my party, still on the beach, just hanging out and talking.

“Is it bad that I will forever call this one of the best days of my life?” I asked.

“No. Look at all these people you met. Look at that amazing boyfriend you have. Look around you, you are surrounded by people who care about you. Layla, if I were you, I would say this was the best day of my life. I’m just glad I got to be apart of it. I love you.” My best friend said.

“Kaitlin, you are one amazing best friend, have I told you that before?” I asked her with a laugh.

“You tell me all the time. But don’t mean I won’t stop liking hearing you say it.”

“I love you.” I said giggling as I leaned over and hugged her.

“Why can’t I have a friendship like that?” Kellin whined.

“And what do you call our friendship?!” Vic asked. I pulled away from Kaitlin and smirk at her, she knew what was coming out of my mouth next. I looked over at the two boys and spoke.

“I call your friendship Kellic.” I said still having the smirk on my face.

“She ships Jalex. As well as Kellic. Nice to know.” Alan said with a chuckle.

“Oh, don’t worry. Kaitlin and I both ship Cashby as well.” I said smiling over to Alan and Austin. Kaitlin bursted out laughing, making me do the same thing.

“As well as Andley.” Kaitlin said still laughing.

“That’s all Kaitlin. I don’t ship Andley.” I spoke, still laughing as well.

“Kaitlin, come up with a ship name for Layla and I!” Jack said. I stopped laughing and sighed as I shook my head.

“Ooo! Yay! Hmm….how about Jayla?” Kaitlin asked with a smile.

“That is actually a really pretty name for a girl.” I said surprised.

“Okay, I claim the name for my future daughter!” Jack shouted.

“Hey! Not fair! I said it was a pretty name for a girl first! Therefor I claim it!” I spoke.

“It will be our daughter.” He said with a smirk.

“Hey! Don’t even be thinking about children anytime soon! I’ll murder you in a heartbeat!” Alex spoke. Jack put his hands up in defence.

“Just think about it Lex, your best friend is going to be banging your daughter.” Vic said with a smirk.

“Oh my fucking gosh. Please no.” Alex begged as he fell from his sitting position and laid on his back as he put his hands over his face.

“I have to agree with Alex on this one….Jack...I’ll cut your fucking dick off if you even think about having sex with her anytime soon.” Lisa spoke. I looked at Kaitlin and we both burst out laughing again. Making everyone else but Lisa, Jack, and Alex laugh as well.
