Chapter Seventeen.

Jack

It was the morning after Layla’s birthday party, and I had just drove to Alex’s house, and I was about to walk in the door. Layla told me to come over because she dyed her hair and she wanted me to see it. She didn’t tell me what color it was, but knowing her and how beautiful she looks, it doesn’t matter, she will still continue to look amazing with any color hair. She looks amazing no matter what she has on, really. I also think she looks a lot better without makeup, but she doesn’t believe me, I wish she did. I opened the door to my best friends house and went in. I heard voices in the living room so I made my way in there. When I got in the room I saw Alex, Lisa, and Kaitlin.

“Hey guys.” I said with a smile.

“Hey, Jack.” Alex said with a smile.

“Layla! Your boyfriends here!” Kaitlin shouted.

“Hello to you, too, Kaitlin.” I said with a laugh. She smiled and waved to me then went back to her phone. I heard footsteps on the stairs and come down the hallway, when I turned around I saw a very blonde Layla. So she went blonde, and it fits her perfect.

“Well, what do you think?” She asked with a smile. I walked over to her and took her hands in mine.

“It looks amazing.” I said before bending down and placing a kiss on her lips. “Now I get to call you blondie.” I said with a smirk. She let go of my hands and pushed me away playfully.

“Asshole.” She said with a giggle. I smiled at her and put my arms around her, bringing her in for a hug.

“But I’m your asshole.” I said with a chuckle.

“Yes, yes you are.” She said giggling into my chest. I released the hug and smiled at her. We walked over to the couch together, and I sat down, next to Kaitlin, letting Layla sit on my lap. Once she sat down on my lap I put my arms around her waist and put my face in her neck.

“I’m never going to get used to this.” Alex spoke.

“Get used to what?” I asked as I lifted my head up and looked over to him.

“The fact my best friend is dating my daughter.” He groaned.

“Well, best get used to it. I plan on being around for awhile.” I said sending him a wink. He left out another groan and laid down with his head on Lisa’s lap, who was passed out asleep on the couch next to him. I chuckled and put my head back in the crook of my beautiful girlfriend's neck. I placed a small kiss on her neck and I heard her chuckle.
The rest of the day we all just sat in the living room and hung out, Lisa woke up to hang out about a hour later. Right now I was currently laying in Layla’s bed, waiting for her to come out of the restroom in her pjs so we can go to sleep. Kaitlin got her own room a couple weeks back, and tonight was the first night I was staying in Layla’s room with her. Lisa made Alex let me stay, but with the rule we had to keep the door open. Why doesn’t my best friend trust me? Probably because this is not just some other girl I’m with, it’s his daughter. A few minutes later, I saw the bathroom door open and Layla walked out. She had on short yoga shorts, and a Motionless In White muscle shirt. Very attractive. She smiled over to me and made her way over to the bed after putting her hair up in a messy bun, with was really adorable. She crawled into the bed and under the covers, cuddling up next to me. I put my arm around her and pulled her closer to me. We both fell asleep soon after.

Layla just finished getting ready for school, and I just finished doing my hair. I was going to take her to school today, so Alex and Lisa can sleep in for a couple of hours. We walked out into the living room to see Kaitlin was watching tv, all ready to leave for school as well.

“Hey Kaitlin, you riding with us to school?” Layla asked her best friend.

“Nah, Chris, Brent, and Jasper are on there way here right now. I’m going to catch a ride with them. Oh! Guess what?!” Kaitlin sprung up from the couch, suddenly really hyped about something.

“What’s up?” Layla asked.

“I have a date on Friday with Amber!!” She spoke jumping up and down. Layla got really hyped as well and they both jumped up and down together screaming.

“Hey hey hey! Calm down. We don’t want to wake up Alex and Lisa.” I said with a laugh, getting them to calm down.

“Oh yeah, they are still sleeping.” Layla said quieter with a little giggle. I heard a honk outside and Kaitlin grabbed her backpack.

“That’s my ride. You guys following me out?” Kaitlin asked.

“Sure are. Let’s go girls.” I said. I let Kaitlin walk in front of us and I took Layla’s hand in mine. We all walked out the door and I shut it behind us.

“Hey Lay-Lay! You catching a ride with us, too?” Chris asked out his drivers side window.

“Nope. Riding with this idiot.” She replied with a laugh. “I’ll meet with you and Kaitlin in first period. Hey Jasper, hey Brent.”

“Hey.” Jasper and Brent said at the same time as Kaitlin climbed into Chris’ car.

“Okay, I’ll see ya guys later. Be careful with my babe in the car!” Layla said to them. I saw Chris smirk over to Kaitlin, who was in the front seat next to him. They both nodded their heads and Chris put the car in reverse, speeding out of the driveway. “Gosh dammit! I’ll kill you all!”

“Calm down babe, they will be fine. Them driving like that is still safer than driving with me.” I said with a smirk on my face.

“Ain't that the damn truth.” She said laughing. I laughed with her and we walked over to my car and got in. Once I started up my car Layla put in my Save Rock and Roll by Fall Out Boy album. We jammed out the whole ride to the school and I pulled into the parking lot, having the music blasting as it was turned all the way up. We were rocking out as we saw all the stares we were getting by other students, since they could also hear it a lot louder since all the windows were down. “Hey, you should walk me to my first class. I don’t want to say good-bye yet!” Layla shouted over the music. I nodded my head with a smile and turned the car into a parking space. I turned off the car and looked outside, seeing we were still getting stared at. I chuckled to myself and shook my head.

“You okay with all these stares?” I asked the beautiful blonde girl next to me.

“Yep. As long as you're by my side.” She said smiling and poking my cheek.

“I’ll always be by your side.” I said with a cheesy grin.

“Whatever. Let’s go before I’m late.” She replied with a laugh. We exited the car and I met her outside on her side. She was about to sling her backpack over her shoulder but I took it from her instead, and slung it over my shoulder. “Okay, that works, too.” She said with a laugh. I smiled at her and offered her my hand, which she gladly accepted. We started walking through the parking lot and made our way to the huge set of stairs, still being looked at by other people. “Damn, you would think people never seen two people hold hands.”

“You’re forgetting one thing babe.” I said.

“What’s that?” She asked with a confused look at she looked over to me.

“I’m Jack Barakat.” I said with a small chuckle.

“So? I still don’t want the other girls staring at what is mine.” She said with a smirk.

“Well I don’t want guys staring at what is mine as well.” I said returning her smirk. She giggled and I opened the huge door in front of us, and letting her walk in first. I walked in behind her and looked around. “Holy shit this brings back some fun memories.”

“Oh that’s right, you did go to this school, you graduated like, forty years ago.” She said smirking at me.

“Hey! If I was really that old, and looked this good. That would be the best thing in the world.” I replied with a grin.

“Whatever Barakat! Come on.” She laughed out. We walked down the halls, hand-in-hand, as people continued to stare and some girls squealing with excitement at the sight of me. We finally reached the classroom Layla was going to be in for her first class of the day, she pulled me into the room and my eyes landed on all the kids. I looked around the room and noticed Chris and Kaitlin. I waved to them and they waved back with smiles. I let Layla drag me over to her seat, which was right next to Kaitlin and Chris, I bent down next to her seat and I could feel the eyes of other students on me. “Well old man, any more memories coming back to you?”

“First off, I’m not old! I’m only 27! And yes, yes there is. I used to come to this room every day my senior year, I just can’t remember what class it was for.” I stated. Layla opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted.

“Jack? Jack Barakat? Is that you?” A man with brown, starting to gray, hair said as he entered the room.

“Holy shit! Mr. Morgan! What’s up?” I said standing up with a smile. I looked back down to Layla and spoke. “I now remember I always came to this class for History.” She giggled and shook her head.

“It’s great to see you again, Jack! What are you doing here?” Mr. Morgan asked.

“Oh, I was just dropping off my girlfriend. She dragged me into the classroom.” I said with a laugh.

“I see. How Alex and Rian doing? Been awhile since I seen you three.”

“Lex and Ri are good. Zack’s doing good as well, even though you never met him since he didn’t come here.” I said laughing. “All in all, the bands doing pretty well. Oh, you remember Lisa Ruocco?”

“Sure do! Alex and her made a beautiful back when you guys were still here.” He said with a smile.

“Well here’s some news for ya. Their getting married! They got engaged in February. Kaitlin and Layla here are their adopted daughters.”

“Well that’s amazing! Tell them I said hello and congratulations! But as of right now Jack, I’m going to have to ask you to leave. I need to teach these kids about history.”

“I could teach them!”

“No Jack, you couldn’t. You might be able to teach them about the history of Green Day and Blink, but that’s about it.” He chuckled.

“Rude!” I said laughing. “Okay, maybe you’re right. I’ll leave you to teaching the youngins.” I looked down at Layla and bent down and placed a kiss on her lips. “I’ll pick you up after school, later babe.”

“Bye hun.” She said returning my kiss and smiled at me as we pulled away.

“Later Kaitlin. Bye Chris.”

“Bye Jack-o” Chris said with a smile.

“Later uncle Jack-Attack” Kaitlin said.

“Jack-Attack? Really? Couldn’t come up with anything cooler?” I asked with a laugh.

“Nope, she fails at nicknames.” Layla giggled. I bent back down and placed another kiss on her lips before walking off.

“Bye guys, see ya after school! Later Mr. Morgan.” I said as I got to the entrance of the room.

“Bye Jack. Tell the others to stop by some time! Would love to see them again!” Mr. Morgan said.

“Will do!” I said as I left the room. I walked down the halls and out of the building, through the parking lot and back to my car. I need a coffee, I thought to myself. Once I was in my car I started it up and drove to Starbucks.
I spent the rest of the day, hanging out at the mall with Zack, waiting for Layla to get out of school. It was actually pretty awesome to see Mr. Morgan again, I think I’ll go in there every morning I drive Layla there.
