Anything But Ordinary

I was sobbing. I couldn't be pregnant! There's was no way I was ready for a baby!

"Claire! Come on out. Please!" Jack pleaded. I was locked in my room, bawling my eyes out. I heard mumbling from the other side of the door, and then it was opened. I knew Jack had a spare key... not like we ever used it, but hey. I looked up as Alex entered my room, closing the door behind him. I wiped under my eyes as Alex sat down on my bed next to me.

"Hey," he said softly, rubbing my back. I leaned against him, sniffling lightly.

"I'm not ready for this," I muttered through my tears.

"Claire, look at me," Alex sighed. He grabbed both sides of my face gently, making me look at him. He wiped my cheeks with his thumbs, staring at me.

"Everything is going to be just fine, believe me. And if everything isn't fine, I'll be with you every step of the way. So will Jack. We're not going to give up on you in a very important moment in your life, okay? Just because Oli is the father, it doesn't mean you can't love this baby. Don't think for a minute that that's true, okay?" Alex asked. I nodded.

"B-But... I.." I sighed, placing my face in my hands. Alex pulled me into his arms, and I wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him tightly.

"Thank you," I whispered. Alex pressed a kiss to my temple, and he pulled away from me.

"Now tell me," Alex said, placing his right hand on my belly, "What are you going to name it if it's a girl?" I smiled as a blush painted my cheeks, and I placed a hand over his.

"I'm not sure. I still have nine months to figure it out," I said with a small giggle. Alex grinned, his smile lopsided. He looked down at his lap, his smile disappearing. He looked back up at me, and he took both of my hands in each of his.

"Call me crazy... but I really like you, Claire. A lot," Alex said quietly, "And I really want to help you with the baby before and after it comes." I smiled, and I pressed a kiss upon his cheek.

"For the record... I like you too," I said as a smile played on my lips, "And I would definitely appreciate you helping me. It would mean so much to me." Alex smiled.

"Thanks," he said. I pulled my legs up, and I sat criss crossed in front of Alex. I played with his fingers, feeling the roughness of them. I looked up when I felt Alex's other hand under my jaw. He leaned down, and I felt his hot breath on my lips. My eyes slipped closed as I wrapped an arm around his neck. I brought my other hand up, and I rested it on his cheek. Neither of us made the move to kiss each other, and we weren't able to because Jack opened the door. We scrambled apart, looking over at Jack who had a playful smile on his lips.

"Is everything okay in here? You went silent," he said. Alex stood up, and I followed his lead.

"Yeah. Everything's fine. I'm gonna head home. I'll see you guys tomorrow at Rian's, right?" Alex asked. I smiled and nodded.

"Of course. We'll see you tomorrow," Jack said, and we all headed out towards the front door. Alex hugged me goodbye before leaving, and I closed the door behind him. I turned around, meeting Jack's eyes.

"Oh shut up," I said. Jack snickered.

"Not my fault you're into him," Jack said.

"If it helps, he's into me too... and he wants to help with the baby." Jack's face fell, making me think I said something wrong.

"Jack... what is it?" I asked. He scratched his neck, his face displaying a grimace.

"Well... while you guys were being all lovey dovey in your room.. I got a phone call. It was dad... and he said that Grandma had a heart attack," Jack said. My jaw fell slack.

"My God. Are you serious?" I asked. Jack could only nod. I made my way over to the couch, sitting down on it.

"Did he say anything else?" I asked.

"Yeah. He read her will to me. The only thing for us on it was her house, which is already paid off," Jack said.

"But her house is-"

"Huge? Yeah I know. Which means that one of us stays here, and one of us leaves," Jack said.

"You did buy this house, Jack," I pointed out. He nodded.

"Okay. You'll take it. Anyway... you'll probably want your space during the pregnancy," Jack said. I smiled.

"Are you sure?" I asked. Jack nodded, sitting down next to me.

"I want what's best for you, okay? And I remember you saying you've always wanted to live there, so why not? It's all yours," Jack said. I smiled, hugging him.

"Is there going to be a funeral?" I asked.

"Yeah. We're going up to mom and dad's next weekend for it. We can bring Alex if you want," Jack said.

"I'd like that," I said softly.
