Anything But Ordinary

~~One Month Later~~

Alex and I were having sex whenever we possibly could in hopes of me getting pregnant, but he was leaving for tour tomorrow, and it would be our last time to try for a baby for several months. I was hoping this time would be it, and I think Alex was too.

So, tonight, naturally, was a special night. I'd arrived home from my new job as a waitress at a small, comfortable café to Alex lighting the last candle he had set up on the dinner table. There was a bouquet of roses in the center of all the candles in a glass vase, and I smiled as I set my purse down on the counter top.

"Alex! This is beautiful!" I exclaimed, a bright smile on my face. Alex grinned.

"I'm glad you think so. Dinner is just about ready, so I hope you've brought your appetite," he said. I watched as he traipsed passed me, and he took something out of the oven, setting it on the stove to cool off.

"What is it?" I asked.

"I made lasagna. It was the easiest choice," he said with a laugh.

After dinner, Alex cleaned up the dishes while I moved to the sofa with the dogs on my lap. I was scratching behind their ears and giving them kisses when Alex made his way over.

"Baz, Pey, off the couch," Alex said. Both dogs leapt onto the floor, and Alex straddled my waist. He kissed me deeply, pressing his body up against my own.

We were interrupted by my phone going ballistic in my purse, and Alex let me up to answer it.

"Hello?" I asked, not checking the caller I.D.

"Hey, Claire. Are you busy?" It was Cass.

"Yeah, just a little. Why? Is something wrong?" I asked. It sounded like she was crying.

"Yes, but I'll come over tomorrow after the guys leave. I've got something I need to tell you," she said.

"Okay. I hope you're okay. I'll see you tomorrow, sweetie," I said.

"Bye," she muttered, and she hung up. I turned my phone off, and I returned to Alex.

"It was just Cass wanting to hang out tomorrow," I said, figuring that if I told Alex anything suspicious, he'd mention it to Rian, and I was assuming Rian didn't know what was wrong with his girlfriend, and I didn't want to be the one to spill anything I wasn't supposed to.

I woke up alone, and I grinned when I remembered last night. I felt like we definitely conceived. I could just feel it. I got out of bed, got dressed, and I caught Alex before he had to leave.

"If anything comes up, I'll definitely call you," I told him. He grinned.

"Alright. I just felt like we did it last night, you know?" Alex asked. I nodded, placing my hands on his chest.

"I know. I feel different somehow. But I'll take tests and go to the doctor, and I'll let you know. Gosh! This is so exciting!" I exclaimed. Alex kissed me goodbye, and he left with Jack, who was waiting outside in the car.

Cass showed up at around noon, and when she did, she flung her arms around my neck and hugged me tight.

"Cass, what's wrong?" I asked as I looked at her. She wiped under her eyes, and she pulled me over to the couch.

"I think I'm pregnant," she said flatly. I smiled at her.

"Really?" I asked. She nodded sadly, and I realized she wasn't too happy about it.

"Are you not ready?" I asked her. She shook her head.

"Not even close to ready," she said. I pulled her into another hug.

"Well, for the record... Alex and I are trying to have a baby, but don't tell Rian. Or Zack or Jack. Don't even tell Alex I told you because we promised we wouldn't kiss and tell until we knew for sure," Cass pulled away and smiled at me.

"Oh, Claire. That's cute," Cass gushed.

"Yeah, and if you are pregnant, we'll both be going through it at the same time. It seems less scary that way," I said. Cass laughed and hugged me once more.

"Well, I'll let you to it. I have errands to run. Thanks for letting me tell you," she said. I nodded, and she left. Once she was gone, I hurried to the bathroom, and I dug under the sink for my pregnancy tests. There were three left, so I figured I'd take all three today and buy more in a week or so.

I took the first test, and when my timer went off on my phone five minutes later, I looked at it and nearly dropped it. It was positive! If it was true, how far along was I? Because I know it's not gonna tell you you're pregnant the day after, and Alex and I had been going at it like rabbits.

I waited an hour to take the next one, and it was positive as well, and then I waited another hour to take the last one, holding my breath when my phone dinged. I shut my eyes and held the test up in front of me, and I opened my eyes, looking straight into a pink positive sign. I dropped the test in excitement, deciding I should make an appointment with my doctor.

When I called, she told me to come in, as she was far from busy, so I did. I was sitting on the examination table waiting for her to return with my test results, and when she did, she smiled brightly at me.

"You ready?" She asked. I nodded.

"Congratulations. You're pregnant! One month," she said. I clapped my hands over my mouth and shrieked happily.

"Are you serious!? I haven't had any morning sickness or anything," I said. She nodded.

"You probably will eventually. Anyway, I'll take an ultrasound for you," she suggested, and soon, I was back at home calling Alex.

"Hey, babe," he said. I couldn't keep it together anymore.

"I'm pregnant!" I told him.
