Chapter 23: Sorry

“Mom? Could you give us a minute?” I asked, eyes never leaving Alex’s once.
“Sure thing,” she replied, quickly scampering up the stairs. I hadn’t told her about anything that had happened with Alex, but she seemed to sense that there was a lot to be said. We were left to silence, staring at each other and then at the floor, back and forth.
“Hi Max,” he said, grinning sheepishly.
I couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. “Hey there, Alex. What are you doing here?”
“We had a couple days off, so I flew out to see you. Matt told me your address too, which helped,” he explained.
“Where is everybody else?” I wondered.
“In town, but we all thought it would be best if I came here alone,” he stated.
I sat down at the kitchen table and gestured for him to do so as well. “I thought you wanted nothing to do with me.”
“I never said that,” he replied. “Look, Max, I’m here to tell you I’m sorry. I acted like such an asshole. After my little tantrum, I figured you’d want nothing to do with me, so I just avoided you. That was probably the dumbest decision of my life. I mean, I didn’t even get to say goodbye to you.”
“You’re an idiot,” I said.
“I know, I just-” he began, but I cut him off.
“How could you think I wanted nothing to do with you? I’m not the one who freaked out and ended it. We probably could’ve patched things up at any time,” I mentioned.
“Yeah, but I really fucked up,” he commented. “I know I did. I shouldn’t have been trying to make you stay. Ever since our fight, I can’t stop thinking about all the things I should’ve said and done, and it just makes me mad at myself.”
“So, you’re here to sort of get closure?” I questioned.
“No,” he said. “I’m here to stop being an idiot and tell you I’m sorry. So that I can start sleeping better again, and get my life back on track. But most of all, I’m here to try and win the girl of my dreams back. Nothing is quite the same without her.”
A smile began to form on my face, but quickly disappeared. “Alex, I’m still going to go to school,”
“I know! And I support you all the way. You’re going to be the best whatever you want to be in the world,” he exclaimed.
“I thought you didn’t do long distance?” I wondered.
“I do now,” he replied. “I’m going to try and be the best goddamned boyfriend ever! I mean, I will be if you’d let me.”
I grinned at him. “And what will you do to be the best goddamned boyfriend ever?”
He paused in thought. “I’ll call you all the time and I’ll come visit you as much as possible. I’ll even send you nudes when you’re in the middle of class to distract you.”
I giggled. “You sound like Jack.”
“I’ll be even better than Jack. I’ll help you study, if I can, and I-” he said.
“Alex, you can stop now,” I said, interrupting. “You’re pretty cute, you know that right?”
He smiled widely. “Does that mean I get another chance?”
“Yes, you dick,” I replied. “But only one, okay?”
He stood up from the table and picked me up from my chair bridal style, kissing me softly. “God, I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” I said. “Now put me down.”
“Not a chance,” he responded. “Though, the guys aren’t too far away, and they’d love to see you. Wanna come back to the hotel with me?”
“It sounds like you’ve got other plans there, Gaskarth,” I mentioned.
He feigned an innocent look. “That’s for later.”
He set me down on the ground finally, and I called to my mom. “Mom! I’m going out for a bit! I should be home fairly soon!” I grabbed a jacket off of rack by the door, and we were off. I messaged Kyle and asked to reschedule our study date, and he agreed.
Alex and I made our way up to the band’s rooms, hand in hand. Once we entered the room, I was attacked by Jack, who wrapped me in a huge bear hug. “Dammit, Jack! She’s mine,” Alex pouted.
Jack pulled away with a gasp. “You two are back together?! It’s about damn time!”
I got hugs from Rian, Zack, and Vinny before finally making my way over to Matt. He greeted me warmly, and then we all hung out in the hotel room a bit before heading into town to terrorize the city. It was nice to have them all back, even if it was only for awhile. The best part was definitely being with Alex though. I hadn’t even realized how much I had missed him until he showed up at my house. But, now it was just a matter of making long distance work.

Notes

I told you things would work out. Be happy now, my dear readers. And please beware that it might be a little while until the next chapter. I'm a little stumped on what I should do with this story. :/

But I love you all and I hope you can be patient with me :)

So I just read this story, all in one sitting, and seriously loved it. You're a really great writer. :)
Alex and Max's relationship was so sincere, and even though the end was kind of surprising, I found it perfect in a way. Like one of my favorite endings I've ever read to a fic, actually. Instead of very cliche it more so fit the pieces together, if that makes sense.
I really loved it. If you ever choose to maybe rewrite this story, or perhaps do a sequel to it, I will definitely read. I looked on your profile and unfortunately you don't seem to have anymore Alex/OC centered stories. But if you ever write a new one of those, feel free to let me know as well.
One of the better stories I've read in a while, great job with it. :)

@Billie Joe Gaskarth You're lovely. Thank you <3

No leave it as it is, you may think it can be improved but so can everything, start a new one then you can look back and see how you've developed as a writer :) just personal opinion though ;)
