Chapter 18: Girls Do What They Want

We reached the next city in record time, about 5 hours before the boys were supposed to be on stage. Rian called Cassadee and told her where the bus was so she could pick me and Sadie up and take us to buy clothes. I was dreading this, but I tried to keep a positive attitude, especially since Matt told me I had to be nice. Day by day, he seemed to act more like a father figure for me.
Cassadee shot Sadie a friendly smile once she arrived, but she only rolled her eyes and brushed past her to get into the car. “It’s going to be a long afternoon,” she said.
“Don’t worry. I’ll try to protect you,” I grinned, and she laughed as we headed to the car.
Cassadee and I talked incessantly on the ride to the local mall. She told me all about her relationship with Rian and I mentioned mine with Alex. Sadie picked at her fingernails in the back seat, not paying attention or attempting to participate at all, which I was actually thankful for. It gave me a chance to get to know Cassadee better, and make up for my quietness the first time I met her.
Sadie took charge when we arrived, leading us into stores as we stood there. She ended up picking a lot of pink. “You know,” I mentioned. “If you want to fit in with everyone on the bus, the pink isn’t going to do much good,”
She glared at me. “I don’t want to fit in with them. I don’t even like the band.”
Cassadee looked confused. “You’re not a fan?”
“No,” she began. “The only reason I went was because my best friend is in love with them and had no one to go with. I met Jack at the bar later and then we fucked. Now, I’m stuck somewhere I don’t want to be.”
“Look,” I stated. “I know you don’t want to be here, but you should at least be nice to Jack. He’s got a lot on his mind.”
“I don’t plan on talking to him much. I’ve got my eye on someone else,” she replied with a smirk.
I opened my mouth to speak, but Cassadee placed her hand over my mouth to stop me. “Maxine, she’s not worth it. I’m sure she’s lying anyway. After all, who couldn’t love Jack?”
I sighed. “I hope you’re right.”
After 2 grueling hours of shopping with Sadie, the three of us went back to the bus and hung out for a bit until the show. Sadie was offered a pass to go backstage, but she elected to stay on the bus by herself. I did my usual job of helping the crew unload instruments, but then I was asked to help Vinny at the merch table. Despite being on a bus with him for nearly a month, I didn’t know Vinny very well.
“Hey,” he greeted. “Thanks for helping me out. I haven’t even got all the t-shirts set out yet and we’re swamped.”
I smiled at him. “It’s no trouble. I’m happy to help.”
“So what’s it like being Flyzik’s niece?” he asked, trying to make conversation as we worked.
“It depends on the day. Sometimes he has to pull the stick out of his ass for awhile, but Matt’s pretty cool overall,” I explained.
“Sounds exactly like working for him,” he mentioned.
I laughed. “That’s sad.”
Vinny nodded in agreement, and we continued talking, even throughout the show. It was nice to just sit around and talk to somebody, joking around. I did that all the time with Jack, but I was too protective of him at the moment.
After the boys got off stage, we all discussed what to do since no one seemed to want to go to bed yet. We decided to go to an indoor go kart place that was somehow still open.
“I’m gonna go and ask Sadie if she wants to tag along,” Jack said.
“Hold on,” Alex cut in. “I have to grab something from the bus. I might as well do it.”
Jack nodded and stood talking to Zack and Vinny, while I was with Matt. “Any news on how to get her home?” I asked.
“I’ve known how to get her home the whole time,” Matt replied. “All it takes is a plane ticket. Jack looked like he wanted her to stay though, so I lied.”
“Aww Matt,” I grinned. “Who knew you were such a romantic?”
“Shut up,” he laughed.
Alex came running out of the bus, the door slamming behind him and a look of distress plastered on his face. “Jack,” he said, jogging up to his best friend. “I’ve got something to tell you. It’s about Sadie.”
“What? What’s wrong? Is she sick?” Jack questioned.
Alex shook his head. “No. She kissed me.”

So I just read this story, all in one sitting, and seriously loved it. You're a really great writer. :)
Alex and Max's relationship was so sincere, and even though the end was kind of surprising, I found it perfect in a way. Like one of my favorite endings I've ever read to a fic, actually. Instead of very cliche it more so fit the pieces together, if that makes sense.
I really loved it. If you ever choose to maybe rewrite this story, or perhaps do a sequel to it, I will definitely read. I looked on your profile and unfortunately you don't seem to have anymore Alex/OC centered stories. But if you ever write a new one of those, feel free to let me know as well.
One of the better stories I've read in a while, great job with it. :)

@Billie Joe Gaskarth You're lovely. Thank you <3

No leave it as it is, you may think it can be improved but so can everything, start a new one then you can look back and see how you've developed as a writer :) just personal opinion though ;)
