We'll Let The Fires Just Bathe Us

“Rian I need you to give me some good news.” I sighed into the phone.

Ran was currently in Egypt trying to find even a whiff of a whisper of where Lucifer might be.

“Sorry I don’t have any but to be fair you’re not giving me much to go off of. Do we even know how the hell he got out?”

His voice was slightly distorted through the phone speaker, plus it being such a long distance call.

“Absolutely no fucking idea. You said that Mitchell didn’t have any information?”
“Unfortunately not. All he knew was that it was Lucifer who set him up, of course I found that out after he’d attacked you guys.”
“It’s okay Rian, just keep searching. I don’t know how much longer Alex is going to last without his grace.”
“Yes sir.”

I ended the call and pressed the edge to my forehead, remembering how a couple of months ago, I did the same thing followed by me throwing it into the wall and Alex yelling at me.

I needed to get his grace back. I missed him yelling at me. I felt a deep rumble which shook me to my core and sighed as that meant Hell was getting weaker and weaker. I strode to Alex’s room to make sure he was okay and I found him sitting up on the bed, seeming to be in deep thought.

“You feel that?” I asked.
“Yes.” He rasped.
“You okay?”
“Yeah.” He whispered. I didn’t believe him but I wasn’t going to fight him on it.
“Alex, dinner.” I called.

After a few seconds I was confused, normally I’d hear the patter of his feet coming down the stairs to eat with me but it was silent.

“Alex.” I called again, going upstairs.

I knew it was probably nothing but there was a tiny flutter of anxiety in my chest.
I opened his door to find nothing. Literally. The comforter on his bed was gone, his clothes were gone, his toothbrush and toothpaste were gone, his phone was gone, he was gone.

“No.” I whispered, “ELIZA!” I called, running down the stairs.
“What?” She asked, looking concerned.
“Alex is gone.”
“What do you mean “gone”?” She asked, looking terrified.
“GONE AS IN NOT HEAR!” I yelled but we both knew I wasn’t yelling at her.
“Okay come on. We’re going to go find him and he’ll be okay.” She said taking my hand and pulling me into the garage. She grabbed the hiking pack which was hanging on a hook next to an empty one.
“There, I used to have two packs. Alex took one.” I concluded.
“Well at least now we know he packed supplies.” She remarked.

We filled our pack with water, food, and a few other camping essentials.
We knew that if he ran, he was obviously going to avoid demons and the only way he could do that here is by fleeing into the woods.

I tried calling him as Liza and I made our way to the trail round back but he didn’t pick up. I groaned and pulled my phone away from my face, I was about to lock it, but then I happened to see the date. What I saw made me stop in my tracks.

February 11th 2021

“What is it?” Eliza asked, concern etched into every corner of her face.
“One year ago today,” I rasped, “I bought Alex. And now it’s also the day I lost him.”
“You didn’t lose him. He’s out there and we’re going to find him.” She insisted.
