We'll Let The Fires Just Bathe Us

I woke up to the sound of a loud crash downstairs. I jumped out of bed and rushed down the stairs and into the living room area. I saw to my left there was a kitchen and to the right the living area continued with a doorless doorway on the right wall. Jack was in the kitchen clutching a small piece of paper in his hand and judging by the mess on the floor, he’d just swept the counter of all it’s contents.
“What’s up buttercup?” I asked, eyeing the stuff on the floor. His eyes shifted up and locked on me and with a snarl he rushed up to me and grabbed my shirt.
“You belong to me you understand? You are my possession.” He said.
“Yeah, yeah sure. What’s this about?” I asked.
“Fucking…” He whispered before releasing me and punching a hole in the wall.
“Whoa easy there hulk, what’s going on?”
“Merrick. Zack Merrick.” He mumbled.
“Okay what’s he doing?” I asked, realization dawning on me.
“Killing my people. They’re mine.”
“What do you mean ‘your people’.” I asked, fearing what he was about to say.
“I’m the Ruler of the Fourth Quarter.” He said. Thats when the fear set in. Let me explain.
There are four levels of hell, or quarters. Which quarter you go to depends on how bad you were during your life and so determines how miserable your eternal damnation will be.
There is the First Quarter which is the least intense. Basically people who steal things, live a general rotten life, or other shit that isn’t too horrible go there.

The Second Quarter is for the people who murder or do things worse than stealing, but still not that horrifying.

The Third Quarter is where you go if you’re a rapist or like to capture innocent people and torture them.

And then there’s the Fourth Quarter.

The Fourth is the worst. The utmost pain and misery is dealt there. Only people who do absolutely unthinkable things are sent. They say that any soul who dares venture there, even for a second, will never be the same ever again. I’ve seen demons who have come back from that place. They always have this far off, distant look in their eye, as if they’re lost in their own brain. And on the off chance they are aware of their surroundings, they’re in a panic. They see things that aren’t there. They feel agony that isn’t being inflicted.

A Ruler can send anyone they please (accept the other rulers) to whichever quarter they rule. That’s why everyone is so afraid of them, especially the Fourth. There used to be a king that ruled all of hell named Lucifer, but he was locked in a box with another angel named Michael somewhere in the Fourth Quarter. There were rumors of a hunter’s soul being locked up in there with them for a year but those are unconfirmed. Anyway when that happened, Hell didn’t have a king. That’s when the four worst demons stepped up. David Forkshaw ruled the first; Amy Dash ruled the second, Zack Merrick ruled the third, and now apparently Jack Barakat ruled the fourth. Not only do they rule Hell, they also rule Earth. North America was Jack. South America, Antarctica, and the North Pole was Amy. Greenland/North Pole and Europe was Zack. And Asia and Australia was David.
“There’s the fear.” Jack grinned.
“I’m not afraid.” I whispered, damning myself for being so obvious.
“Yes you are. With a snap of my fingers I could have you in uncontrollable agony. I could cause you so much pain, you would never be the same ever again.” He had this insane glint in his eyes as he spoke and I honestly believed him.
“Something tells me you’ve done that before.” I mumbled. His face broke out into a huge grin.
“It’s fun to hear their screams.”
