We'll Let The Fires Just Bathe Us

Long Live The Reckless And The Brave

Harsh beeps ripped through the air. I jumped up, expecting to be hit but nothing happened except the persistent loud beeping. I groaned and looked for the source. It came from this little clock beside the bed which read,

8:30

I looked at the top, trying to find a way to turn it off but instead saw a bunch of buttons. I pressed every one, hoping to stop the incessant beeping but none of them worked and it got so annoying I was ready to scream. I got so fed up with the blasted thing, I grabbed the lamp and smashed it to bits. Beautiful silence filled the air making me sigh in relief. I got up and opened the wardrobe, pulling out the jeans and shirt. It took me five fucking minutes to get them on because they were so tight. The shirt was a lot easier but was pretty close fitting. I moved to the the bathroom to run my fingers through my hair and stared at myself more. It wasn’t like I was vein or thought I was attractive or anything, I just wasn’t used to knowing what I looked like.
“You’ve never seen yourself before have you?” Asked the guard from last night. I hadn’t noticed him come in. I shook my head, my eyes not leaving the mirror.
“Yeah I’ve come across some of you who haven’t but we’ve got to go.” He said. I looked one last time, residing the urge to follow him immediately, before turning and walking. He handed me a granola bar and a bottle of water.
“I know it’s not the most impressive breakfast.” He said.
“Believe me, I’ve had worse.” I replied, shoving it into my mouth and chugging the water, tossing it into a waist bin by the door of the elevator. I reluctantly stepped into the thing, gripping the handlebars as we moved down, the guard snickering at my unease. When we reached the main floor, the elevator dinged and opened. Again, I got out quickly and followed the guard as he held me through the main lobby, down a hall, and into what might’ve been a banquet hall which was filled with demons, cages, and people in the cages. All the men were wearing pretty much the same thing I was, tight black shirt and jeans. But any women were wearing black short shots and crop tops that just barely covered their breasts. He he lead me to a chain link cage at the back of the room that was about eight feet tall and four feet wide and put me inside. He stood next to it trying to get people interested in me. The room was split into three sections.

First section was the shy and scared slaves. Most people were there. If you looked at the buyers, they’re all the same. Shy little cowards who want someone powerless against them them so they can feel ‘like a man’.

Third Section are the ones that were unsubmissive or disobedient. The one’s that would put up a fight, apparently we were more ‘entertaining’.

And the Second section were the slaves that were somewhere in the middle.

Us slaves with in the third section with all our ‘spunk’ have less of a chance of doing what you say so the cowerds tend to stay away. The only thing is that, though you don’t get the pathetic masters, you usually wind up with dangerous ones. A built man with blond hair walked up to us and looked through the links at me.
“How much?” He asked.
“Two thousand.” The Guard replied.
“Let me see him.” He said. The guard opened the door and the man walked in. His eyes went black as he flashed his true eyes to show dominance but it just made me roll my eyes. When they go all black eyed, it was the equivalent of a dog growling or a cat hissing. He smirked and inspected me the way the Commander did by tilting my chin up and around and running his hands up and down my arms and legs. It was when he actually opened my mouth and tried to look at my teeth when I bit him.
“FUCK!” He screamed, hitting me across the jaw. The guard stepped in and threw him out of my cage. My hand moved up to my jaw, getting a little bit wet from the spot of blood that escaped my skin, as I tested moving it. It ached but it could’ve been worse. I laughed when I saw the man with blond hair shoot up and try to get back at me but the guard pushed him back. “THE FUCKER BIT ME!”
“You’re over here with the lively ones. You didn’t really expect him to submit to you did you?” He asked, both of their eyes black and flashing. I continued laughing as he walked away, mumbling to himself.
A few more came but they deemed me too expensive for their trouble.
“How much?” Asked a man with longish light brown hair, he looked pretty ripped too but he didn’t overdo it.
“Two thousand.” The guard said for the millionth time that day. The man inspected me just like everyone else but he didn’t try to do anything obscene like check my teeth, my crouch, my ass, or anything else like all those other dicks.
“I’ll take him.” He said. I wasn’t too worried, I’d only known him for about ten minutes but from what I could tell, he seemed decent enough. That’s when a tall man with raven black hair walked up. He had a blond patch amongst the black and a confident smirk upon his lips. There was something incredibly intriguing about him. And by intriguing I mean, ‘holy shit you’re so sexy I’d let you throw me against the wall and fuck me right now’.
“I’ll take him for three thousand.” He said. His voice sent a shiver down my spine. The man turned to face him.
“Four thousand.”
“Five thousand.”
Neither of them seemed keen on backing down.
“Six thousand.” The shorter man persisted.
“Seven thousand” The tall one countered without missing a beat.
“Eight thousand.”
“Ten thousand.”
“Damn.” I murmured. The raven haired man shot a gaze to me, black eyed.
“Well how much do you think you’re worth?” He asked. I narrowed my eyes.
“I think I’m worth, oh, fifty thousand.” I said with a smirk. The shorter man shook his head.
“In that case I’ll take him for one hundred thousand.” He said, looking at the guard.
“Fuck that.” The shorter man mumbled before walking off.
The raven haired man handed the guard a check, the guard opened the cage and I stepped out.
“Follow me.” He ordered. He knew I wouldn’t run. Yay for basic training, I mentioned that before but I still don’t want to explain it. It’s too horrible. The guard nodded to me in goodbye and I focused on the man leading me. I was six feet and he had to have been at least six four as he was several inches taller than me. He walked with his head held high and his back straight. I noticed how people would shy away or look down as he passed. I rolled my eyes at them as he lead me out of the hotel and into the parking lot. He opened the door to a limousine and allowed me to enter first. I climbed in and he followed.
“Home, Dawson.” He instructed. The car pulled out of the lot and started driving down the road.
“What’s your name?” He asked, untying the rope around my wrists.
“Six seven eight two.” I replied, staring out the window. I had been in the truck, but it didn’t have any windows so I couldn’t see out. The world was fascinating in a car, how everything passed in a blur making the trees nothing but green streaks.
“You’re real name.”
I looked back at him, I possessed the rare ability where I can occasionally disobey their direct commands. Sometimes training doesn’t get completely beat into you.
“Six. Seven. Eight. Two.” I said through gritted teeth, fighting the urge to say my real name. Say I have a death wish, go ahead. He glared at me as his eyes darkened and a low rumble escaped from deep in his chest.
“Your name.” He snarled. I’ll be honest my heart picked up a bit and the harshness of his voice took away any will of mine to keep this up.
“Alex.” I mumbled. His eyes quickly returned to normal and the growling stopped.
“I’m Jack.” He replied as if nothing happened.
“Is that you’re name? Or the name of the poor soul trapped inside you?”
“My name is Jackesmaloreach but Jack is easier to say and I’ll have you know that I possessed this man two seconds after his soul left his body.”
“Uh huh.” I mumbled, not really having a comeback. The car pulled into the very long driveway and eventually it stopped. The door was opened by a man who had short brown hair and very white teeth. I looked up and the house and damn. It was huge. It could’ve been a modern day castle.
“Just so you know, I have maids and other staff so if you see people walking around the house, don’t be alarmed.” Jack informed. We walked in and two staircases wrapped around the wall to a balcony at the top of the room and if you looked straight, you could see a living room.
“Show Alex his room..” He said before going straight into the living area and making a right turn, I’m assuming into another room.
“Come on.” Dawson said.
“Where’s he going?” I asked as we walked up the stairs.
“God knows where he gets off to.” He said with a laugh. “Anyway I’m Rian, Jack’s assistant. And yes, I am a demon.”
“You say that as if it’s supposed to scare me.” I said with a bitter tone.
“You’re going to be fun to have around.” He laughed, shaking his head.
The stairs lead up to the balcony, as I mentioned before, and there was a left and right hall. Dawson lead me down the left and then stopped at the next to last door on the right, walked through that, then stopped at the first door on the right.
“This one’s yours. Let me know if you need anything.” He said before turning and leaving. I opened the door and my jaw dropped. The room was fucking huge. It had a giant flatscreen t.v. with these weird black rectangles under it, a giant bed, a desk with books and a macbook pro on it, a big couch, two walk in closets, a huge walk in bathroom, a big fuzzy rug, and two huge windows that displayed a beautiful view of the mountains to the west. The carpet and walls were white but the big red couch and rug contrasted it perfectly.
“Whoa.” I whispered.
“You like it?” Jack’s voice cut through the room. I spun around to face him and saw him leaning against the doorframe.
“It’s alright.” I retained my cool demeanor. He chuckled and walked in. “So why am I here?” I asked.
“What do you mean?”
“Well you obviously don’t need someone to do ‘work’ because of Rian and other staff, so why am I here?” A smirk appeared on his lips and I wondered if that was the only facial expression he was capable of.
“You’re my pet. You will do everything I say the moment I say it. You will entertain me when I want to be entertained. You will live for my approval.” He said.
“I don’t live for anyone’s approval.” I snapped.
“Mine will be the only thing on your mind.” He spoke as if that settled the matter.
“Riiight you just keep telling yourself that big guy.” I said, patting his arm. Faster than light itself, he gripped the arm I patted him with and squeezed it. I felt the bones in my wrist threatening to shatter making me wince. His eyes went so dark they couldn’t have been black. Black seemed white compared to the shade of darkness which filled them.
“Careful Alex. I have seen the very deepest parts of hell. You do not want to test me.” He snarled. A sinister, evil poison in his voice.
“I have lived through the deepest parts of hell. I’ll be fine.” I spat, yanking my arm out of his grasp. It was obvious that he’d let me retract my arm but I ignored that fact. His eyes narrowed at me and his teeth were bared. “What are you going to do? Kill me?” I asked, taunting him.
“I have every ability to do so. I could kill you before you knew what happened, or I can draw it out and make it a long, slow, painful death.”
“Then go ahead! Lord knows I can’t stop you.” I said. Jack grabbed my throat, harsh enough to make it hard to breath but not enough to suffocate me.
“You want to die don’t you.” He smiled, holding me close to his face letting me peer into his impossibly dark eyes. I could see the pure vile evil in there. They didn’t have a shred of good in them, just so much anger and hate.
“It sure seems a hell of a lot nicer than living.” I mumbled though honestly, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to die or not.
“Well in that case,” He released me by pushing me to the ground, “Have a long, long life.” He grinned before exiting and slamming the door so hard the whole room shook.

Damn it Alex what did you get yourself into?
