It's Nothing Personal (rewritten)

Alex POV

I wake up and I'm alone in bed, I breathe, take my anti-depressants, and reluctantly get up, I swing my legs over the side of the bed and stretch my back, my ribs aching as I do so. I strip off the shorts and throw on the sweats from last night and exit the room. I hear laughing and chatting downstairs and I slowly follow the voices. The house is anything but quiet and I remembered the Sunday pajama pancake breakfast tradition that the Barakat house held every weekend, where everyone comes over in their pajamas and we hang out. I make it into the kitchen and Jack, Rian, Zack, and Cass are sitting at the table or island, talking and laughing.

"Good morning. I hope it's okay that I let you sleep" Jack put a cup of coffee in front of a stool at the island

"How are you feeling lex," Cass asked, turning to face me as I sit and sip the coffee

"I'm okay, achy and sore" I smile a little

"Well we all want both of you to get better" Zack smiled

"Thanks, guys" I grinned and Jacks mom puts three large stacks of pancakes on the table

"Breakfast is served" Mrs. Barakat sat at the head of the table and the five of us flocked to it

Jack and I sat next to each other, Rian and Cass sat across from us, and Zack sat at the opposite head of the table. We enjoyed our breakfasts and chatted about school and music. When we were done Jack helped his mom clean up and the rest of us went upstairs into jacks room. I sat on the couch in the corner with Cass and Rian, Zack sat at the desk and pulled up some music.

“So Cass tells me you and Jack are finally official” Rian looks over at me

“Yeah” I brush off

“Thank god! All jack talks about in anatomy is how much he loves you, he almost sliced his face open when he got carried away daydreaming about you” Zack exclaimed

“Oh my god, really?” I laugh

“Yeah, he had the scalpel in his hand and his hand on his chin” Zack smiled

“Damn I knew he liked me but I didn’t know that much” I giggled

“So how is it having your real life knight in shining armor,” Cass asked

“Well I don’t mean to brag, but its pretty awesome” I smiled as Jack walked through the door

“I know I am” He sat on the bed and I hopped next to him

“Yes you are” I kissed his jawline

“Aye, no PDA” Zack nagged

“Fight me” I cocked my eyebrow and pulled Jacks face to mine and kissed him

“Gross” Zack squirmed

“Deal with it Zack, Jack is really happy and Alex makes him happy. We really don’t need a repeat of last year” Rian laughed

“What happened last year?” I asked

“That's a story for another day, today is a happy day, let's not ruin it” he held my hand and smiled

“Okay, well what can we do, something lazy” Rian inquired

“Movie marathon downstairs” Jack put in

“Every movie marathon the first movie is always home alone, how about scary movies today. And no home alone” Cass suggested

“Works for me, we call the couch” I yell

“No fair” Zack nagged

“Broken bone privilege” Jack helped me off the bed and we all go downstairs

Jack and I take the couch, Rian and Cass nab the love seat, leaving Zack to the ginormous floor pouf. Rian switches on the projector as jack rolls down the screen. Cass and I make a movie queue of classic and new horror and thriller flicks to keep us occupied for a couple hours. When the first movie starts Jack sits on the stick out portion of the L shaped couch and pulls a blanket over his legs, I plant my head in his lap and jacks mom comes over and puts a couple pillows under my right leg to elevate it. By the middle of the third movie, Jack plays with my hair and I just about fall asleep when there's a loud crash outside, thunder and lightning. The sounding of pouring rain and thunder comforted me and I passed out in Jacks lap.

I wake up in the bed upstairs with the covers over me and the lights turned off. I rub my eyes, get out of bed, and pull on one of Jack's hoodies. And I go downstairs and its empty.

“They are in the basement” Joyce smiled from the dining room

I thank her and open the door to the stairs and I immediately hear the guitars and Cass. I hop down the stairs and the four of them are spread between two couches and the floor. I sit next to Cass on the couch and enjoy her voice.

"Has jack heard you sing and play" Zack looked up at me

"No. I always just watch jack play" I shrug

"Come on. Wanna play one of the old ones" Zack pushed a guitar my way

"Six feet?" I asked

"Just like old times" Zack smiled and we started to play

It felt right, playing with Zack after all this time apart. We finish the song and Jack is sitting against my side with his head on my shoulder and I had the biggest smile spread across my face.

“Man, that was unbelievable” Cass smiled

“That felt good" I leaned back on the coffee table

"Like old times." Zack put his guitar up on the rack and we sat around and talked.

"School is going to be really boring without you guys" Cass whined

“I bet it will be" Jack laughed

We hung out for another two hours before everyone eventually left and it was just jack and I, as it would be for the next week. Jack and I went back up to his room and laid down in bed. I curled up next to him and wrapped my arms around his chest.

"Your hair smells nice" Jack squeezed me a little

"Thanks, you're soft" I nuzzled my head in his chest

"I could get used to this" Jack whispered softly and I smiled into his chest

We go down and jack helps his mom cook dinner as I sit and watch, we all ate dinner and sat on the couch for a little bit, chatting with Joyce. We talk about everything going on, touching on school and bed rest before I state that I'm getting tired and Jack follows me up to his room. We both strip down to our boxers and crawl into bed. I fall asleep with jacks arms draped over my torso.
