The Move
ALEX'S POV
It had been a week since Jack proposed his plan to me. He had told his parents he wanted to move there on the grounds that the school could increase his academic results and I told my parents I was going with him, they weren't best pleased but they knew they couldn't stop me.
My thoughts were interrupted by the phone ringing. I picked it up to read 'Jack' and instantly hit answer.
'TOMORROW!' he exclaimed down the phone.
'I know! what time will I pick you up?'
'6? It's a pretty long drive.'
'Okay, I can't wait. I need to go pack, love you!' with that, I hung up. I charged over to my wardrobe and pulled out my big black suitcase. A cloud of dust filled the air as I unzipped it and tossed the top over to one side, revealing the untouched inside.
Nealy three hours passed before I was finally able to close the case, I'd also managed to fill 4 backpacks. I slid under my cold covers and rested my lead on the pillow for the last time, savouring every little detail. Sighing deeply, I shut my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
JACK'S POV
I dragged my two suitcases out to the car, my backpack hanging off one shoudler. Once I'd piled it up in the backseat, I hopped in and reluctantly turned the engine on. It roared in the quiet of the morning and the birds continued to sing in the beautiful dawn light. I gripped on to the wheel nervously, trying to slow my breathing. This is it, I said to myself as I pulled out of the parking space in the house I'd grew up in.
I stopped outside Alex's house and waited anxiously, glancing back at the pile of luggage I'd brought.
'Hey, sexy.' he whispered as he pushed his things into the back. Taking his place in the passenger seat, he smiled at me as he fixed his hair a little. We both sat in sweats and loose band tops.
'Let's do it,' I smile, kissing his warm cheek.
As we drove out of Baltimore no words were said. We were both too busy treasuring everything; the row of shops; the houses; the little cinema where we first met. I felt butterflies as we past it, remembering the first time I seen Alex. I turned to him and he was already staring at me...
'Funny how things turn out, huh?' he grinned, biting his lip. I laughed and put one hand on his lap. It was hours before anything else was said, and even then it was only small talk about how much gas to put in the tank.
'7 miles to go,' I said, squeezing the leather wheel.
Alex read the directions as we made our way down a road full of twists and turns. The houses were small and humble, radiating the character of the nice people who lived in them. We stopped and double checked that we'd parked at the right house before getting out the car.
I ran up to the door, Alex closely behind me. I knocked lightly and the door flew open revealing a little woman around 60 years of age who had thin brown curly hair and a welcoming smile. She stood in a beige trousers and a floral top with a little pearl necklace and pearl earrings.
'Jack, sweety! This must be Alex,' she signalled towards Alex who stood a little behind me. He stepped on front and she waddled forward to greet him with a big hug, laughing gleefully.
'Nice to meet you, dear. You really are rather handsome,' she joked, winking at me in acceptance.
We spoke briefly about the journey there before going back to the car and getting our stuff. Dragging it up the little stairs, we stood awkwardly in the hall before being directed to our room. Our room.
Alex ran in to the little room with cream covered walls and floral curtains. A small brown table was holding a big bouquet of pink roses and the whole room smelled like mothballs. He threw him self on to the bed and smiled up at the pale cream walls; 'I love it.'
