Loverboy
New Start
ALEX' POV
The weeks that followed me admitting my crush for Jack were horendous. We both got beaten up multiple times and the name calling only increased. I was getting so sick of it all, especially since the worst comments were coming from who I use to refer to as my 'friends'. Everyday either I'd call Jack or he'd call me and we would talk it out, but sometimes you lost the word you were so desperately in need of - or, unfortunately - the word didn't exist at all.
'Alex, hey. I've missed you. How was your day?'
'The same as usual, what about you?'
'Got a, um, death threat.'
'Jack, I'm so sorry. I hate this...' I mumbled down the line. Silence fell and only crackles in the signal broke it.
'Me too. I have to go, talk to you later. I love you, 'Lex.' Before I was able to reply, Jack hung up. I lazily threw the phone on to my bed and lay back. All the shit Jack is going through is because of you, I told myself, you selfish little douche.
I spent an hour at the least lying on my bed until my attention was suddenly taken by clinks coming from my window. I yanked my sweats up and brushed down my loose shirt before shuffling across the room to the small window.
Clink.
I reluctantly opened the window and peered out, soon to be calmed by the sight of Jack. The moonlight hit off his skin beautifully and highlighted every perfect feature he had.
'Let me in,' he grinned, looking terribly excited.
I sneaked downstairs and, trying not to be heard by my nosy parents in the adjacent room, slipped across the hall and towards the back door. I turned the keys and they barely clattered as I slowly peeled the door open.
Jack slid in the thin gap before embracing me. I pulled away and took his hand, leading him up to my bedroom without making any noise at all. I shut my bedroom door and Jack immediately burst into life.
'High school sucks, right?' He demanded, the retorical question being said louder than I would've liked.
'I've got an idea.'
'No death rays,' I jokingly added.
'Shh, no. I mean- If you want to, we could...' he paused as if he was coming to terms with what he was going to say, 'run away.'
Run away. It was by far the best thing anyone had ever said to me.
'Jack,' I couldn't find the words I needed, there were so many questions I had.
'My aunt lives in Ohio, we could go to school there and live with her. She's always wanted kids but she has no husband. She's lonely 'Lex.' Okay, so now he was playing the symathy card. It worked.
'Fuck,' I whispered into my hands that were over my gaping mouth. 'Let's do it.'
I rose my head to meet Jack's eyes and let my hands drop, we both shared a smile. I ran into his arms and we held each other tight as we laughed at the prospect, at how exciting our new life could be. How great it could be.
