Ever since the incident with Ronnie at Taco Bell, Alex had been even more on edge than before. And Jack noticed.

School had started once again, and both boys were more nervous than ever before.

Before the couple left for school this morning, Jack had pulled him close and kissed him before whispering in his ear how everything was going to be okay and that he'd be right there with him every step of the way.

Alex and Jack were in guitar class at the moment, meaning that the school day was almost over, meaning that the couple could spend the rest of their day together in Jacks bed, cuddled close and listening to Blink.

Alex jumped when the bell rang, signaling the end of the class and Jack interlocked their fingers as they made their way from the class after putting their instruments up.

Somehow, during the course of the day, the couple had managed to completely ignore Ronnie and his group of goons. But good luck comes to an end eventually, right?

When Alex and Jack arrived at the elders locker, Ronnie and Jacky V were already there, leaning up against the cool metal.

Alex paused and stared at Jack, who ran his thumb over Alex's knuckles, calming him down before they started walking again.

"Well look who we have here. The pair of faggots. You people disgust me." Ronnie spat, making Alex jump.

"Speak for yourself Ronnie. You're just jealous." Jack said, standing in front of Alex.

Ronnie laughed, sending chills down Alex's spine. "Of what? You two? There's nothing to be jealous of."

"Yes there is. Alex and I care for each other. A lot. I think I'm even falling in love with him. But you? You have no one to love. And you crave that attention from someone other than yourself." Jack said, turning to Alex and surprising him with a kiss to the lips.

The hallway, usually loud with students walking and talking with their friends was oddly silent as they all watched the couple face down the biggest bully in school, not backing down once.

Alex felt his insides flip, not with nerves but with something else and that's when it hit him what Jack said.

Jack was falling in love with him.

And Alex was quickly falling in love with him.

"Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to get my boyfriends things so that I can take him home." Jack said, glaring at Ronnie.

Ronnie removed himself from Alex's locker. "You need to watch your and your boyfriends back, Barafag."

"I'm not scared of you, Ronnie. You may think that you run this school but that's only because students in this school are pussies and allow you to push them around."

"And what's happening now? You finally grew a backbone?"

"I finally have a reason to fight back."

"I wish there was something I could do to make him stop bothering you." Jack whispered to Alex later that day as they laid in Jacks bed.

"It's okay. I don't think he'll ever stop. I can handle it Jack."

"Baby, you shouldn't have to handle it. That's what I'm here for."

"I don't want you to fight my battles for me. It'll only make things worse for you and for me. And besides we're not... We're not even..." Alex's voice trailed off.

"We're not even what?"

Alex sighed, burying his face in Jacks pillow, inhaling the scent. "Dating. I don't know why you care so much about me when we're not even dating."

"I don't care. Nothing's been made official, I know. But I like to think that you're mine and as mine, it's my responsibility to take care of you."

"But-"

"Shh, okay. I don't care Alex. You're. Mine. I take care of what's mine."

Alex thought back to what Jack had said to Ronnie and his heart fluttered. "I think I'm falling in love with you too."

Jack smiled, pulling the elder closer to him and kissing him. "Alexander, can I ask you, officially, to be mine?"

Alex's cheeks blushed a deep red before he nodded. "Y-Yeah. I've b-been wanting y-you to ask me that f-for forever now."

Jack chuckled. "I've been wanting to ask you that."

"Why didn't you?"

"I didn't know if it was a good time. I mean, I just found out that you were harming yourself and that your parents were hurting you. Alex, I was scared. I don't ever want to lose you."

Alex's eyes watered, tears threatening to spill over. "I-I don't wanna lose you either. You're honestly the best thing that's ever happened to me."

"I'm not leaving."

"Good. Because I don't want you to."
