We Were Born To Lose
Hit Em' Right Between The Eyes
“MATT!” I cried, galloping through the dust mass of fighting bodies. Then I saw him get struck down by the hilt of a man’s sword. He raised it above his head, ready to plunge it into Matt’s stomach when I jumped off my horse and raced forward. Just before his sword pierced Matt, our bodies collided making us fall to the ground and his sword slide a few feet away. I pushed my upper body up and nailed him in the nose. My rage blinded out any pain I felt as I hit him over and over. Soon, due to me being so overcome with anger, the force of my punch knocked him out. I let out a breath and looked over to see Matt, wide eyed and frozen.
“You okay?” I gasped. He nodded and I threw him the dead man’s sword. I grasped mine and continued to fight. Once the last man had either fallen or retreated, we did a headcount. Surprisingly, we were all still alive.
“Jack are you alright?” Alex asked, scanning me for any injury.
“I’m fine.” I replied, all I had were a few scratches that were nothing really.
“Alex!” Sir Dorian called. I followed Alex over and saw David splayed out on the ground with a deep gash in his leg.
“Fuck.” Alex whispered.
“I’ll get the herbs.” I said before racing off to get my horse. Mom had insisted that I bring healing herbs incase someone got hurt and I’m so glad she did. Through the time I’ve served Alex and helped her out, I’d learned how to heal some things and flesh wounds was one of them. I grabbed my bag and ran back and made a mixture of Hemlock, Juniper seeds, and Monkshood to help with the pain. While he was eating that, I made another mixture of Comfrey and Henbane.
“Give him a stick to bite down on. This is going to hurt.” I said, grimacing. Sir Dorian did as I said and placed David’s head in his lap.
“Ready?” I asked. He nodded and I pushed the herbs into his wound making him scream around the stick. I made sure to get them in every bit of exposed flesh because I knew that if I wasn’t thorough, he would die of infection. It was a long time until I was absolutely sure I’d gotten everything covered but then I finally wrapped it up in a clean bandage.
“Alright he’s not going to be able to walk so he’ll ride my horse for the rest of the trip.” I said.
“No. He’s my servant, he will ride my horse.” Sir Dorian protested.
“Then you, my Lord, will ride mine.” I said.
“No, Jack. I will gladly walk.”
“Are you sure because-“
“Jack get on your damn horse.” He interrupted with a small smile.
“Yes, Sire.” I replied with a sigh.
