We Were Born To Lose
Don’t Get Too Close It’s Dark Inside
I was mopping in the throne room when three of Cenrid’s knights tramped in.
“Hey look it’s Jack.” One of the cried inspiring a chorus of laughter. I cringed and focused on mopping. They all marched over with their dirty shoes and spread mud all over the floor I’d just worked so hard on.
“What’s wrong faggot?” One of them sneered. I didn’t answer. My silence caused them to laugh obnoxiously and one of them pushed me to the ground. I shook, wondering what they were going to do. “You got our prince in trouble, and for that, we are very pissed.” He smirked then they advanced.
I was aimlessly roaming the halls of the castle when I came across some of Cenrid’s knights. I glared at them and intended to keep moving but they had other plans. They lined up, blocking the hallway with smug looks on their faces.
“Move.” I growled.
“You got our prince in trouble.” One of them sneered, who I recognized as Sir Dimer.
“He deserved it.” I spat.
“But Jack didn’t.” He replied. Fear shook me.
What did they do?
“What did you do to him?” I asked, I could hear the anger in my voice making them laugh.
“He might be a little chilly.” He replied, causing them continue laughing. I glanced out the window. The winter weather was coming a bit early this year, it had been very cold lately and it was currently beginning to snow. Their laughter continued but I had had enough. If Jack was in trouble then it was my fault because I’m his master and it’s my responsibility to protect him. I drew my sword and pointed it at Sir Dimer’s throat. The other three silenced but Sir Dimer kept that stupid smug grin.
“What did you do to him?” I repeated myself through gritted teeth. He smirked throughout his answer.
“He’s in the woods but you’d better hurry, it’ll be nightfall soon and the way it’s snowing now, there’s no way he’ll make it through the night.”
Without another word, I bolted to the stable and got my horse ready as fast as I could. I then galloped out of the castle courtyard and down the trail. The tree branches provided some shelter from the torrenting snow but not enough to see well.
“JACK!” I called. But there was no answer. I kept cantering through the woods and calling his name but it was getting later and colder.
This is all my fault. I knew he was getting picked on I should’ve assigned a knight to protect him. Hell, I should’ve protected him! But I didn’t.
That’s what you do Alex. You destroy. You’ve destroyed so many young men in battle, you killed your mother, you have these weird feelings when it comes to Jack so you might even be gay, and finally you’ve went and gotten Jack killed.
My breath made white swirling clouds in the air as I galloped through the woods and screamed for my servant.
