Like a Phoenix, Rising from the Ashes

Tay came down and she watched as my face reflected what only Jack and I could hear. There was a near silence in the room as Kenzie’s heart stopped. She was dead. I know that she’ll wake up in time to begin transition. But this was not what I wanted for her.

I wanted to keep Kenzie human. She didn’t deserve to be like me. She’ll be a monster. It’s inevitable. But I’m powerless in stopping her from turning now.

“Do you want me to take the baby upstairs,” Tay asked.

“Please,” I told her as I handed her Arielle, “Keep her up in the nursery. I’ll bring Kenzie upstairs once I feel that she can control herself around her.”

Tay nodded and took Arielle up to her nursery. I looked to Jack before I looked at Kenzie. She was laying on the bed in an almost unnatural pose. Her legs were covered in blood and other fluids. Her dull hair stuck to her forehead. Her eyes were open in a glassy stare. I reached over and closed her eyes.

“We should clean her up,” I told him, “She deserve respect.”

Jack simply nodded as we got some wash rags and began to clean her up. I dressed her in a simple dark grey dress. To cover her arms, I put on a dark red cardigan to finish her outfit as Jack put on a pair of white heels onto her feet. I washed her hair and dried it, brushing it out so it draped over the pillow under her head. Jack applied some light makeup to just make her look nicer in her peaceful state.
---
I stayed by her side, waiting for any sign of Kenzie waking up. I didn’t want to see Arielle again, in case I missed Kenzie waking up. I didn’t want to leave her side during this sensitive time in her new life as a vampire.

“It’s taking too long,” I told Jack as I held onto the blood bag that I was going to give Kenzie to drink from to finish her transition.

“Her body is repairing itself,” he told me, “She’ll wake soon.”

That was when Kenzie’s eyes shot open. She took a huge breath, causing her to gasp. She sat up and looked panicked. I grabbed her hand, trying to help calm her down.

“Where is she,” she asked in a panic, “Is she alright?”

“Arielle is fine,” I told her, “But you’re not. You have one more step left to do.”

“Wait,” Kenzie swept her legs so they dangled over the side of the bed to look at me, “I died didn’t I?”

“You did,” I told her, “You’re in transition. You need to drink.”

She took the blood bag from my hand and figured out how to open it. She took a big sip before she started to groan in pain. Her transition was complete. She looked up at me. Her eyes were like a vampires, dark and fearsome. Her fangs made her mouth stay open.

And I knew she was still hungry. She looked at me and tilted her head.

“I can hear her heart,” she said, “And I hear two others.”

“That’s Tay and Cameron,” I told her, “But before you can see Arielle, you need to hunt with me. Now come on.”

I grabbed her hand and led her outside and into the woods. I was going to start her on animal blood now, that way I can keep her from killing someone and turning her emotions off out of guilt.

So I just stumbled across this series and I really like what you have of it so far. :) You're a really great writer and not a lot of people have done the Alex as a vampire type of story. I've read a few but this one is definitely one of the top ones I've read. :)
I'm sad it was never continued, though. If you ever find the inspiration to continue it, I will be here to read. I would like to know how Alex and Kenzie's story ends.
I am definitely subscribing, so yeah, I'll be here if you continue. :) This story definitely deserves more recognition.
