Impossibilites

A Compulsion Undone

Stepping into the woods, I could tell that my entire world had shifted and transformed into something new. The sounds of the wildlife sounded so much louder and clearer in my new ears. I could hear the snow falling off leaves far off into the distance. I could hear the winter birds flying around looking for food. I could hear the snow crunch under Alex’s feet as he stalked next to me to help find me my first kill in my new life as a vampire.

I’m a vampire. I never thought that I would become a vampire, until I met Alex. Now I was a vampire, just like him. But he was going to help me be better than he was when he was a young vampire. He knew full well that when I did become a vampire, he’d make sure to train me on how to maintain my humanity and keep my thirst under control.

I spotted a lone squirrel out in the snow. I instantly stopped in my tracks as I stared it down. I had no idea how to go about trapping it to feed. I looked over at Alex quickly to ask him silently for help.

“Focus your energy on catching it as fast as you can,” he instructed, “Let your instincts guide you to trap your kill.”

I followed his advice and I tapped into my inner hunter. I dashed to the squirrel and I grabbed it. I snapped its neck before I sank my fangs into it, draining it dry of all its blood. Once I was finished, I tossed the carcass aside and cleaned off my face.

“Good job,” Alex wrapped his arms around my shoulders, “You got your first animal kill.”

“I want to see our daughter now,” I told him, “I think I can handle being around her now.”

“I’ll hold her so you can see her,” he compromised, “That way I can protect her if you lose control.”
---
“Alright Tay,” Alex held out his arms to my best friend, “I’ll take over on holding her, okay.”

Tay nodded and handed Arielle to Alex. She looked like she was a couple days old, not hours. But my god was she beautiful. She looked so much like Alex. And she looked even more incredible through my vampire eyes compared to my human eyes.

“She’s beautiful,” I cooed over her as Alex held her close to me, “She’s just so amazing.”

“When you were still pregnant, she was making me dream of her as a teenager,” he explained, “But she was telling about what could happen when you turned. So far, nothing has happened.”

I looked into Arielle’s eyes and I saw the wisdom she held behind them. She knew something I didn’t. I wish I knew it, too.
---
“Mommy,” the little girl called as she walked through the hall. I looked at her and I saw something familiar about her.

“Go back to your room, Mackenzie,” the woman that looked similar to me told the girl.

That’s when it clicked. That was four-year-old me talking to my mom. I was told she died when I was a baby, not a pre-schooler.

“But mommy,” I protested to her.

“But nothing,” she knelt down in front of me, that’s when I noticed that she was actually a vampire. What was going on? “Now go back into your room with Abigail,” she ordered.

My younger self went into the room, as I was compelled to. She compelled me as a child. Why?

“Mackenzie, you need to stay with me,” the woman that was waiting in my room said, “I need to finish the spell before Nathaniel comes.”

“But I wanna see Daddy,” I protested.

“No you don’t,” she yelled at me, “Now sit.”

I watched as she casted a spell. I watched as my younger self screamed in pain. I watched as a dark aura was pulled out of my body and placed into a crystal. I noticed that it was changing me, turning me human.

That’s when it all clicked. I was a pureblood as a child. But my mother hired a witch to remove the vampire inside me, leaving me human. Then I was compelled to forget about my mother and father. I forgot about Abigail, my witch nanny. Now I was turned into a vampire again, I needed to find that crystal and absorb the magic in it. I needed to become a pureblood again.

And I was going to do it to protect my daughter and Alex from my father.

---
I woke up from my dream and shook Alex awake.

“What’s going on,” Alex asked groggily.

“I was compelled as a child,” I told him, “I need to find the blood crystal. It’s the key to protect everyone.”

“What are you saying,” he asked.

“I was born a pureblood,” I told him, “I was subjected to a spell that pulled my vampire essence out of my body, leaving me human. Then I was compelled to forget everything.”

“But where are your parents,” he asked, “They have to know where you are.”

“My mother had to have lured my father into the lake,” I told him, “She had Abigail seal them into her car, forcing them to be entombed at the bottom of the lake. I have a feeling that the seal breaks when my heart stops beating. Meaning we have to act quickly to find the blood crystal.”

“Then we need to find it,” Alex rubbed the sleep from his eyes, “But we have to leave Arielle with Tay and send them to home. She won’t be safe around us.”

“I hate the idea of being away from her,” I told him, “But have to do whatever it takes to protect her from my father.”

“But who is your father,” he asked.

There was a knock at the window. We both looked to find Carmina there. I opened to window and glared at her.

“Her father is Nathaniel,” she explained, “And he was the one that turned me. I lied to you before, back when I snuck into your classroom. I wear this,” she revealed a garnet pendent around her neck, “To keep myself from burning in the sun.”

“Why are you here,” Alex asked her.

“You’ll need my help to get her crystal,” she replied, “Because I checked the location where your mother sealed herself and Nathaniel away. They’re gone. But I know your mother ran off first before Nathaniel could kill her for betraying him.”

“We need to find her,” I told them both, “She’ll know where to find my crystal.”

“That’s exactly right,” Carmina added, “And know the one person we could ask to help us.”

“Who’s that,” I asked.

“Your old nanny,” she smirked, “And I know right where dear old Abigail is.”

So I just stumbled across this series and I really like what you have of it so far. :) You're a really great writer and not a lot of people have done the Alex as a vampire type of story. I've read a few but this one is definitely one of the top ones I've read. :)
I'm sad it was never continued, though. If you ever find the inspiration to continue it, I will be here to read. I would like to know how Alex and Kenzie's story ends.
I am definitely subscribing, so yeah, I'll be here if you continue. :) This story definitely deserves more recognition.
