Impossibilites

Kenzie has been an emotional wreck these last couple weeks. I know it’s because of the baby, that the baby is making her hormones go haywire. I did everything I could to keep her comfortable and relaxed.

We’re off the tour now, and I’m getting everything moved into our new house. I had the realtor put the deed in my name for the time being. I knew that Kenzie could be in danger from other vampires, but I needed to be the one that owned the house so when she turned, she wouldn’t need an invitation.

“Alex,” I heard Kenzie call. I had made sure the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen were moved in first before I brought Kenzie home with her things.

“Yes,” I asked as I came upstairs. Kenzie was somewhat showing now. She wasn’t noticeably pregnant, but there was a small bump.

“I’m thirsty,” she told me, “My vampire eyes won’t go away.”

“I’ll get you some blood,” I told her before I kissed her forehead, “Why don’t you just relax and start browsing for some baby stuff. I want to get the nursery ready.”

“Okay,” she smiled and I left the room.

There was a knock at the door, which puzzled me. I wasn’t expecting someone to come by the house. I went to the door and opened it to find Carmina standing there. I went to shut the door, but she grabbed it and pushed it back open as she walked in.

“What are you doing here,” I asked her.

“I heard a certain Tyler was back in town,” she teased, “I wanted to see her for myself.”

“Alex,” I heard Kenzie walking down the stairs, “Who’s here?”

We both stayed still and quiet. When Kenzie got to the bottom of the stairs she about screamed. I ran from Carmina and stood at Kenzie’s side, trying to shield her and the baby from Carmina.

“Oh Alex,” she taunted, “You shouldn’t keep things from me. You’re being more protective than normal.”

Carmina dashed to me and grabbed me by my hair. She threw me away from Kenzie, sending me over the couch. I looked over to couch to find Carmina staring at Kenzie. That’s when I saw Carmina was staring into Kenzie’s vampire eyes.

“A human with the eyes of a vampire,” Carmina smirked, “So you knocked her up. So much for keeping her human, Gaskarth.”

“Leave her alone,” I warned her.

“Or what,” she turned to look at me, “You’ll rip my heart out. I have years on you, Alexander. I also have a different diet than you.”

“I’m on blood bags,” I told her, “I think I have a nearly equal advantage as you.”

“Nope,” she smirked, “I’m not giving you a chance this time. I hope you can keep her bloodlust in check around your baby.”

And with that, she was gone. Now I’m worried about Carmina coming to ruining things for me and my future family. Kenzie moved to sit on the stairs as she started to cry. I knew that Carmina would freak her out.

“She won’t get to us,” I told her, “I’ll call Jack to come live with us and maybe see if Tay and Cameron can come down too.”

“Thanks for coming Tay and Cam,” I greeted our witch friends, “We need a favor out of you guys.”

“Sure what’s up,” Tay asked.

“I need you or Cameron to take over on the deed to the house,” I told her, “We had a run in with Carmina a week ago.”

“I can sign on the deed,” Tay replied, “But what about when Kenzie turns? She’ll be cursed by being in the house without an invitation.”

“I’ll move her outside once she starts transition,” I told her, “Once she’s finished turning, you can invite her in. Then we can change the deed back over to me. Once she’s a vampire, Kenzie and I can take down Carmina.”

“We’ll help you take her down,” Tay added, “I helped you score Kenzie, and I will help you get that bitch out of your life.”

With the plan set into motion, Jack and I waited outside while Tay signed the deed with Cameron and Kenzie as witnesses. Tay came to the door, and invited us in. Now I knew Carmina was going to be at bay for the time being and won’t be able to get to me or Kenzie.

“Alex,” I heard Kenzie scream. I ran to her as quickly as I could.

“I’m here,” I told her as I came to her side, “What’s wrong?”

“It’s the baby,” she sobbed in pain, “it’s killing me.”

I watched as Kenzie instantly became nothing but skin and bones. I started to cry as Kenzie died. I turned around and I was greeted by a teenaged girl with long hair like Kenzie’s but had the same color as mine. She looked like me, but with some of Kenzie in her features.

“Hi dad,” the girl greeted me.

“What is this,” I asked her.

“It’s my way of talking to you,” she replied, “I have a gift, dad.”

“How can you do this,” I asked her.

“My conscious is one with mom’s right now,” she replied, “I’m here to warn you.”

“Warn me about what,” I asked her.

“That Carmina isn’t the only problem you’re about to face,” she explained.

“But I watched as you forced her to die,” I told her.

“I won’t kill mom,” she promised, “But someone from her past will. When mom turns, all compulsion wears off. The truth will be revealed, and it could kill us all.”

I woke up in a cold sweat. Kenzie was still sound asleep next to me. The nightmare scared me senseless. Our baby came to me through Kenzie to warn me what could be revealed when she’s turned. But who compelled her? Was it before I came into her life?

But I know the gender of the baby now. I’m not going to tell Kenzie until her bump is bigger and shows more. I sat in the quiet of our room and I focused my mind for a moment. I hadn’t tried to listen for the baby’s heart yet. As I focused, I started to hear the sound of a small heart beating in our room. The sound matched the rhythm of Kenzie’s heart.
